I essentially drive your neighbor/your neighbors son, left hand at 11 and right hand usually off wheel unless I go into a turn, then I support the bottom of the wheel

Sometimes when I'm driving on a relatively small road I legit drive with both hands on my legs and just one finger touching the wheel; or sometimes like a douchebag with one hand at 12. For twisties 9-3.

The pressure doesn't really matter if it's straight down, with your elbow on an armrest. If your arm is hanging freely at an awkward angle it's very possible that you put forward or backward force on the shifter, which even if very lightly, can wear out your shift fork. Especially if you're doing it habitually literally every driving second of your life, your gearbox will feel like stirring soup long before the end of the lifetime of the rest of the vehicle.
