So I'm in the market for a 'new' car cause I got an autotragic and am regret.
While looking at Preludes and Civic SIs, the Toyota Solara caught my eye and I'm pretty impressed, despite the grandma-core styling. It makes comparable power to the Prelude and isn't that much heavier, 3300 to the Prelude's 3150. Also comes in a 5 speed manual. So, /o/, what's the consensus? Any alternatives while we're at it?

To be fair the Prelude is probably a little more sporty than the Solara, but I'd definitely test drive one. My budget is 4000, so it narrows the scope of what's available to me considerably.

The Solara is a two door Camry so make of that what you will.
Personally I find it dull and bland like its 4 door cousin.
Do what want, man. You clearly don't know what makes special cars special.

try finding a CRX although I admit it will be difficult finding an unmolested one in your price range.

Slowlara desu

This is true. My scope admittedly doesn't go too much further beyond manual and 200~ hp in this case. I can't afford, and for that matter, am not interested in compromising comfort and reliability via a CRX or the sort. I know it‘s not a popular concept but I want a comfyish, mildly sporty car that will be reliable. And the Solara while bland fits the bill.

I do know it's basically just a Camry for reference, I just don't terribly mind that.

Cool, have at it, and enjoy it. If you aren't street racing, don't buy a rare street racing car.

Fair point. To be honest I would love to do it, but a few logistical concerns, not the least of which being money, hold me from that.
