The automatics that are actually faster around a track are DCT manumatics (they have computer programs to shift them, but racers use manual gear selections) that use a solid coupling - two of them, actually, not a torque converter.

Slushboxes are poorfag garbage. Oh yeah, you can say "but it's a more expensive option", but fact of the matter is, the bottom tier poorfag cars in the US are going auto only one by one.

It's a relic term from the 20th century. Automatic transmissions back then were no where near as responsive and quick-shifting as they are today. Almost no self-respecting journo uses the term to describe new automatics anymore -- certainly not for anything built in the last ten years.
