I have a built 7.3 that's walked plenty of cars, and yes it blows smoke, but that's because it's pushing a ridiculous amount of fuel and I ran out of fund for the build to get the turbo I wanted. Thats what the black soot is. Semi combusted diesel.
On a good tuned diesel at high boost there is no smoke. At low boost there is a little.

Coal rollers up the flow too much that it smokes even at its highest boost.
It has nothing to do with tuning. Its just for show.

Also, that soot does not compress well and it can bend connecting rods or fuck up crank bearings.
It is also mildly abrasive, and will wear down the valves, bore and rings in time.

Still better than a fucking Honda though.
