I want to be responsible young adult, delay my gratification and get this clean 1996 Honda Accord I found on my local craigslist.

Things is I'm scared it'll get stolen even though I live in a middle class suburb in New England.

Is this a stupid thing to worry about even though I'll have insurance? Like it is literally the most stolen car in the United States.

Pic Related.

Fuel cut off switch would be cheapest. and keep toggle switch well hidden.

Living in a neighborhood where people don't steal 20 year old cars is the best security.
>>
It's the most stolen because it's about the most common. Don't worry about it.

Get that one security pack that locks the doors and asks the person on the driver seat for a password which he has to say in 5 seconds or otherwise a 4ft long horse dildo violently shoots up from the seat.

No, that particular gen is very easy to steal

98-02 gen thefts dropped off a cliff because they added an immobiliser and factory alarm.

What are you doing? I can get an accord for literally half the price.

Also,

I have an accord 1994 and my insurance racked higher because of that reason yet no one has ever broke into my car.

I bet it doesn't help that it's probably the most common car in the US.

You'll be fine as long as its a decent neighborhood
I had a 98 civic for 5 years, which is the most stolen car in the US. Never even worried about it. How often are cars stolen in your area?
>>
>>15989402
This is basically what I said but I got a snarky 'thanks for nothing' reply.

IDK why people insist on living in shitty neighborhoods. No matter how poorfag you are, you can rent a room somewhere nice at the bare minimum.

>Comparing a Honda to a BMW

This is how I know you're naive and dumb.

>how is the age of the car relevant to how much it should cost?

I'm not referring to the age, I'm referring to the fact that you're going to waste 3k on a base model HONDA ACCORD that is 20 years old with NO V-TEC or any luxury options that you can find on another Honda Accord for half the price. Like why would you throw away a perfectly good steak and prefer it over TV Dinner steak? It's like you're asking to live under your means, except you're being stupid and paying MORE to live under your means.

>its an LX

You're dumber than a pack of rocks.
>>
>>15989821
Not the same anon, but the price has to do more than just the model of the car
Sure you can find a cheaper, more abused one with higher miles, but most likely in the end your gonna spend just as much money fixing it. A manual with 130k is gonna last much longer than an auto with 170k+ miles
>>
Disregard the idiots OP, condition is everything and there's no shame in paying $3k for a Honda like that with a decade or more of life in it. Sure you could hunt down some shitheap for $1500, but then you'd have to spend at least as much bringing it up to the shape that yours is in.

Re: theft deterrents, one of those flashing red LEDs that simulates an alarm, and one of those good old steering locks. Thieves going after low hanging fruit like an old Honda want a quick hop in and go, some basic deterrents will have them simply pass it by IMO.
>>
>>15989848

>A manual with 130k is gonna last much longer than an auto with 170k+ miles

I wouldn't put my money on it. Just because it has manual transmission doesn't mean it's going to last longer. It all depends on how the previous owner(s) took care of the car.

But still, WHY would you buy a inferior 20 year old car when you can get a much better car for 3k?
>>
>>15989883
>Just because it has manual transmission doesn't mean it's going to last longer

But it will though, Auto transmissions are usually the first thing to go in hondas

Not as much as the 1998-2001 Honda accord models.
>>
>>15989895

and if we're arguing simply about transmission, OP can easily find a manual car in the same condition for a lower price but he can't because he's dumb.

Agree completely. But how can he defend his car from thieving coons?
>>
>>15990202
OP here. no need to use racial slurs. I live in a town where its majority white and when there is an auto theft its always a white kid.

Even if it was a minority whats the point of pointing it out? You and I know there are plenty of pieces of shits that come in all skin colors.

also go fuck yourself.
>>
My housemate has that exact car and it's been stolen twice in two years. They are really easy to steal, that's the main reason. It seemed like they were just kids taking it for a joyride because it was found just parked in the middle of the street both times. Install a cutoff of some sort and it will deter these types of idiots. He just pulls the ignition fuse and it hasn't happened again.
>>
>>15990326
If you are OP my advice is that you should install an immobilizer system/transponder key. If you want more add a GPS tracking system but this will add month to month costs because you have to basically pay for a very cheap and rarely used cell phone service plan.

Those two systems together are going to make your car up to par with modern cars as far as theft prevention goes. It will stop casual theft. If someone really wants your car they will get it regardless of what it is.
