what makes a good luxury car?
i say convenience, so something like suicide doors or other features a non luxury car would have
a smooth engine, Lincolns i drove in the past lack this. they also sounded harsh?
and a good ride. there is a reason magnetic shocks and other things are used by all luxury cars. what does it have? it had better be plush!

You can get more or less the same thing in America with the new Platinum trim of the Fusion. Unfortunately, Platinum and Sport trims don't mix, so you have to choose between fancy interior/2.0T i4 and regular interior/2.7T v6. If you want both you have to drop a shit ton more on the 3.0T v6 Lincoln MKZ.

I work in the limousine industry and although most of the companies are beginning the transition over to the newer Cadillacs and Lincolns none of them offer as much comfort and legroom as the old town car extended wheelbase.

For the most part all the newer cars offer is more toys for me to play with and less room and comfort for the paying passenger.

> my ability to sit in an air-conditioned seat while watching a DVD of Ocean's 11 on the dashboard touchscreen between jobs does not increase your Comfort level on the ride to the airport.

Considering this thing is priced more inline with an A6 while having the comfort and size of an A8, I think they have a decent chance. The Lincoln brand also carries massive prestige in China still; at parity with Mercedes.

>>15987855
>>15987877
Base models are FWD; mid and top end models have full time 50/50 AWD with some torque vectoring shit.

>>15987870
The Genesis has actually been competing with the German luxury brands very well in the North American market. Just a few years ago, Lincoln, Cadillac or Hyundai being competitive with the German brands was unimaginable, now they're surpassing Audi and are nearing 50%-75% of MB/BMW figures.

2014 Mercedes E-Class sales: 66,400
2015 BMW 5 series sales: 52,704
2014 Lincoln MKZ: 34,009
2014 Cadillac CTS sales: 31,115
2014 Hyundai Genesis sales: 29,992
2014 Audi A6 sales: 23,941
2014 Lexus GS sales: 22,198

The Genesis is already outselling Audi. The other German brands will likely start loosing increasing market share as US/Jap/Korean stuff becomes increasingly competitive.
>>
I really want to get into the new Lincoln, but I just can't. When I think of the Continental, I imagine a RWD, V8, maximum comfy & roomy interior, long wheel base sedan. I just don't see it here. What I see is a knock off of current "sporty-luxury" cars. The front end looks to European for the American market; the car still retains the blob-like no-sense-of-styling that we see with cars today; and from the photos my senses get overloaded with screens and buttons galore. If the Continental wants to compete with the current market, I think they should focus on what made the original cars so great. In a market where the attitude is "cram as much as we can into the car" I think they should try to still do that, but make it look stealthy/sleek. Also, I'd prefer to have bench seating in both the front and back, but I'll settle for buckets up front and not in the back. Also, can they please make the C-Pillar more squared off? I would imagine the headroom for rear passengers must suck.

End rant.

I do like the door handles integrated into the trim; that's pretty cool.

This thing is as big as an S-Class. It's meant to be floaty old money comfort, not sport. Most of them sold are going to be AWD anyways. The back is definitely big enough for rear occupants to sit comfortably. They're fuckhuge in person.

As a consolation, Lincoln is apparently going to base two upcoming models on the RWD Mustang platform. I'm assuming that means a luxury coupe and a performance sedan.

Come on now, nigga. And those NA numbers are pretty consistent over the past decade. As much as I like an underdog, Lincoln, Caddy, and Kia have failed to capture that market.
