It came out in 2007 (maybe late 06?) and just didn't hit the market well. I believe the GXP model was a cool $30k.
It was also around the time that gas started to really go up in price, so it didn't fit the market.

They stopped in 09 because GM axed the Pontiac and Saturn brands, so they died.

The car is based on the "kappa" platform. In the states, you had the Solstice (GXP turbo option) or the Saturn Sky (Redline turbo option). Overseas it was the Opel GT, which was just a rebadged Sky, the body was the same.

The GXP/RL engines are the "LNF" ecotec 2.0L k04 turbo engines. They are also used the the Cobalt SS (later models after the superchargers were stopped), the Chevy HHR SS, and one of the Buicks from the same years.

If you can grab a GXP for under $10k, do it. That is cheap for the GXP trim, so it may have damage or a shit ton of miles. Even though the cars are no longer made, the support for the engine is still very active and the aftermarket support for the LNF engine is huge.

I have a 2008 Sky Redline and it is a blast. It is just like any turbo car and will have problems, but nothing major. The engine compartment is tight and if you want to replace the clutch it is a pain in the ass. Outside of that, the car is so much fun.

Yeah the steering feels numb and the interior is cheaply made but it's 15-20k cheaper than anything in its range and punches way above its class
