I'm new to this whole Miata thing. They actually seem like really fun cars. I'm thinking about getting one, but which generation is the best? And by that I mean I'm not buying a new one.
My personal favourite is the nc miata. Probably the only one i'd drive if i could fit in one.
>>15986036
That actually looks really nice.
>>15986024
I think it could be the nc, since theres a 2.0 liter 160 hp version with LSD. I own one and I enjoy the car a lot, tons of fun and nice times, and it isnt slow as you can read in the internet.
The worst gen is the nb I think, very ugly, VERY slow, but it has a good chassis if you want to play with it specs.
>>15986036
Hate those but that one looks fucking great. Damn
>>15986284
Fuck you, it's a good looking car. Not fast, but has a six speed and lsd. Dynamically a great car, and quick enough to be fun. More comfortable than an na, but not as fat as an nc
Buy NA first, then NB, then NC, then ND.
NC actually has a roof (retractable hardtop). I guess that's why it's the only one that managed to get some traction where I live.
NB MASTER RACE
>>15986024
NC is probably the best, but keep in mind they're all pretty great. You can't go wrong with any of them really. Just avoid 99-00 NBs if you like being comfortable.
if you say anything other than NA /o/ midgets will come out and club your shins with horsecock dildoes
>>15987139
nb
NA is the best, anybody who says otherwise is wrong.
>>15986024
NA or ND only
If I were planning to mutilate a Miata for my own fun project, which should I get?
>>15986036
looks like an s2000 with Downs
>>15986284
>implying NB isn't qt
It's faster than my old FB RX-7 so its enough for me
>>15987644
NB
Then NA
>>15986036
NBs are awesome in my area. Children usually buy up the NAs and ruin them, but generally the NBs are safe from that because their appearance hasn't aged as well as the NAs, and they're a little more expensive.
ND objectively
NB subjectively
>>15987809
>tfw NDs are the greatest car in the world but I don't have 30k to drop on a car
Being 20 I kind of wonder what the modern Miata will be like when the ND Miata falls into the 5k range.
Personally I used to really like the NA because that's what everyone goes with, and not to mention pop ups. But now I really like the NB. It's a bit more sleek, supposedly reliable engine, more modern (ob2?), a/c. They also seem to be getting cheaper while it's getting harder to find a clean NA because 'muh classic' or ricers. I would take either and get a hard top.
Technology and handling wise probably the most recent ND miata is best.

I've tried the ND 2.0 sport and I though that it was way to soft compared to my NB sport. Sure, it's an easy fix with coilovers and swaybars. But will it ever feel as good as a stripped NB with manual steering?
>>15987888
>NB with manual steering?
Damn you reminded me that I never got around to doing a power steering delete.
My NB didn't have powersteering when I first got it because the belt broke, but I had to fix it since that belt also powered the AC and it was 110 degrees outside. Now might be a good time to take that off though since winter is coming, and in Texas the winters are pretty cozy. Might do that to test out the feel of the car without it before I do a full delete. Does anyone know how much weight you lose by taking out all the power steering components?
ND => NB >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> NA = NC
NA: Extremely slow, floppy noodle chassis, looks like a bar of soap and stoned with the headlights down.
NB: Direct upgrades everywhere from the NA (power, interior, handling, even lower weight in some years, reliability and so on). Mazda got the formula perfect here; also has body definition unlike the NA. I've driven NA through NC models extensively deciding on what to buy and the NB definitely stuck out. Easily the most fun car I've driven and I've owned sports cars that cost 5x as much as my Miata and driven other cars that cost 50x as much (250k-ish) and can still say that.
The supercars were more fun in that it was just ridiculous to drive around in public, they're not actually that fun unless you're tracking.
NC: Not a bad car but a bad Miata. Mazda strayed from what made them great and compromised on muh feels while making the car fat and sloppy, relatively speaking. Also looks like the bar of soap of the NA but a lot fatter.
ND: Returning to the formula, the ND is -very- feelsy, light and once again got definition to the body back. While it's not as "feelsy", raw or simple as the NB it's easily justified with significant interior/power upgrades since the NB.
inb4 some assmad NA owner who fell for the popup meme spergs out
>>15988031
Also regarding NA vs. NB, the "feels" factor is definitely higher with the NB. I know feels is subjective but it's always been a massive selling point with Miatas.
Feels being transmission/clutch/steering/shifter/handling feel and so on.
NB, ND, NA, NC
(((in that order)))
>>15987998
It's not the same to remove the belt as depower the rack, the steering will be much heavier than a depowered rack.
I think it's about 10kg
>>15988031
If I had to buy a Miata today I would probably go for the 1.5 ND, lower it with some really comfy coilovers and put some nice wheels on it and just cruise around.
>>15988048
I need a lip for mine and paint the window frame. The car looks so much lower with the black top and window frame.
>>15986024
NA because pop-ups. Everything else looks normal.
>>15986036
As much as i like the na, i must say that the facelifted nc is truly gorgeous
NA > all
Never driven an NC but I think they look very good when lowered
>>15988095
>It's not the same to remove the belt as depower the rack,
Yeah I figured I'd take the belt off, see if I still like the feel of no power steering, and if I do I'll take all the components out. If not, no harm done.
>>15988136
NAs are cool, and they're nice classics in the sense that they age really well, but their image is being ruined by ghetto nigs and stance children. Go to a car meet and 90% of the NAs are stanced or have some ridiculous rice shit going on.
The only exception I've found to that is the Mazda Cruise I go to, which is probably because it's a bunch of backroads with sharp turns and the good, but not perfect roads and at least halfway decent performance requirement to keep up scares off faggots.
>>15988048
If you're the dude who owned that car, I'm sorry your shit got flooded dude. I like your new Miata too
I've owned a NB and NC. NC is better in every way.
I've driven a ND and prefer that over both. The only thing I'd miss from my NC is the folding hard top but the ND RF will fix that when it comes out.
Can't really give an opinion on NAs but i consider them closer to classics now that early ones are >25 years old
>>15986024
ND > NA > NC > NB
