Yes you HAVE to appear in court or they will issue a warrant for your arrest. Then you can't please not guilty (depends on state but most). GO TO COURT. You will probably talk to the DA (or assistant) before talking to the judge. GENERALLY they will give you a plea deal. I.E. say your guilty, you'll get deferred adjudication, if you don't get a ticket in the next 6 months we take it off your record. Pay the court fee. DRESS RESPECTABLE. BE RESPECTFUL. Court is not the place to be a dick, the judge has more power than you think. ALWAYS fight a ticket, and ALWAYS ask for some type of deal. Sometimes it's probation. Sometimes its a few hours of community service. Sometimes it's a fine and go on your way. If it seems complicated AFTER talking to the DA, plead not guilty and request a later date when it's your turn. AND THEN GET A LAWYER.
First offence is usually some deal of just paying the court and not getting a ticket for a few months.

If you don't have really dark tinted windows then he could definitely see you if he was perpendicular to you with his headlights on. If the street lights are bright enough it's possible too. It's a fairly distinct body position. You don't really need much detail to see.

This is a very easy two-step process, OP. Show up to court on your assigned day, and do the following.
1. If cop is there, plead guilty, they'll give you 6mo probation and drop the fine, you'll have to pay court costs, probably like $100-200.
2. If cop is not there, plead not guilty, and just say you didn't do it. You got lucky.

Don't fuck around with the cop or the judge, it will end much worse.
