Hey /o/
I am thinking about buying a used GT-R and I want to know about the annual expenses from current or previous GT-R owners. What are some things I need to know about owning a GT-R?
>>
R32 or earlier only unless you're rich and live near a track.

Turbos break at around 150k
Timing slips at 45k
AWD fucks up at 175k

You'll wreck it before you hit any of these markers.

I have read threads about this on Nissan forums, maybe even a dedicated GT-R forum. Would be best to look there.

honestly not to rip on the gtr it is an amazing car, but for that amount of money there are so many other cars i'd get.

pic related is a reproduction 917 that could be obtained for 50k. it's just a race car through and through, but to me i'd be driving that hard without restraint since it's using an ls drivetrain. a gtr i'd be worried about the DCT and other things to maintain. i guess it's different strokes for different folks but as a supercar it's nice that it can be so power/fast while having four seats and a big ass booty.

Really none at all. Then what have I been driving for the past year. (Yes I know it's an old photo but it's dark out now)

maintenance costs vary a lot depending on model year cba vs dba and how you drive it. The cba cars 09-11 have a higher run cost due to the fact you have to change the transmission oil every 18k compared to 36k on the dba 12-17 cars. Some of the dba parts are a little cheaper like the rotors because there are just more dba cars out there. If you can turn a wrench it can keep the costs down. For instance if you have the dealer change the engine oil it's about 200 bucks. If you change it using the mobile 1 like nissan recommends it's 30 bucks and an hour of your time.

Same with the transmission fuild if you do it it's about 200 to 500 bucks for the fuild depending on brand. If the dealer does it expect to pay 1300 bucks.

The biggest cost with running these cars is the tires. From the factory the stock tires are very soft and wear very quickly due to the track suspension settings the car comes with. If you can get 10k out of a set your doing good. If you change the tires to mpss and have nissan change the suspension settings to street during the yearly free P.O.S inspection then you can get 30-40k out of a set if you can keep your foot out of the throttle.

I'm planning starting off with a shitbox civic and saving money for an r32-34. they don't seem overly expensive here in canada surprisingly, and I love the car even just for it's aesthetics.

To add to this I'm the anon with the r35 that I posted last night. The gtr is kind of in an odd spot. While it's an extremely fast car it's not a very dynamic car. Once you get used to the speed it becomes somewhat boring to drive even when pushed. That being said it makes an extremely good daily/grand tourer because it doesn't do anything unexpected.

If you buying a car to have a track slut I would avoid the gtr because you will get bored with it. The zo6 fits that role much better.

If your looking for a sports car that very docile and forgiving during daily duties then the gtr is an excellent choice.

Before I had the gtr I had one of those very dynamic cars; a camaro zl1, and after driving for 10 months I got tired of it wanting to murder me anytime the road conditions were not perfect. The gtr I feel like I can drive it anytime I want and I know there will be no drama.
>>
It's an automatic marketed as a sports car.
>>
>>15988680
That's really not a valid argument any more since most of the high end sports cars/supercars are automatic only now. Dct transmissions have been a game changer and if they weren't so expensive probably would have killed off any of the remaining manual cars by now. The only advantage a manual car has over a dct is costs in development and running. Everything else a dct is either better at or equal to a manual transmission
