Yeah 7th gen is a mess for both rsx and em2.
Basically design tests and having multiple r and d placement at the start of that gen hurt it.
Japan had little to do with the em2 and dc5 japan didn't even get the em2 and wanted acura to have more separation for their brand thus name swaping the integra. 2001-2002 em2/dc5 had a lower(roughly 1" rear and 2" front) body to give a sportier look. Shuji had two designs with different hight both patented in the mid to late 90s(oldest 94) certain design specs show changes including the change in hight of the car. Cant find much evidence on dc5 though. Canada got screwed though, rebadged ex as si then release si veloz(for real si price no less). Veloz side skirt concept was put on 2004-2005 em2 because of this in the us.
Dc5 acura literally gave up on around 2003 and put most their work twords the tl.
Whats weirder is Mitsubishi did things like the alternator on these cars.

I think part of the powerplant problem was not having a bridge from the sohc non-vtec D series in the civics to the dohc vtec k series in the accord.

The d series in those cars was actually pretty good, but the K24 in the accord is just 100x better

Pretty sure the K24 in the Accord wasn't the performance VTEC like the one in the RSX. Only the TSX, RSX Type S, and the 8th/9th Gen Civic Si had the true VTEC performance in their K engines.

RSX had K20. K20 =/= K24.
I have an accord with the K24, it's actually really quick even with all the weight.

I also have an EM2 with the non vtec single jingle, so everything I said was coming from direct driving experience.

I had the 4th gen TL and I really liked it. I had FWD cuz AWD eats gas like 3 mofos, but in hindsight I wish I got it because it has real torque vectoring.

Looks are polarizing but I really like the refresh (2012-2014). The 3rd gen TL looks very dated now.

The back looks great. It's starting to look rather retro actually.
It's the front that is starting to age, especially the grill. Acura's new shield beak shit in the 4th gen isn't better but it doesn't look as old and cheap.

Anyway, with OP's budget, I wouldn't get a car that old anyway since 2008 Type-S only come in FWD and it will be hard to find one that is in good condition.

I actually still find it a bit hard to recommend the TL in general because the tranny isn't reliable unless it's the 4th gen FWD. But if OP is willing to take care of it then it's fine.

K24A2 from the TSX had the same VTEC as the K20A2/Z1. The K24 in the Accord is for economy, like the K20A3
