What is the best cheap econobox?
Can be slow, ugly, whatever, only one caveat:

>>15976153
0/10 try harder
>>15976158
unless you're about 10 years old you should know that there are econoboxes that are RWD
>>15975996
S10
E70 corolla senpai.
>>15976180
They won't be "econoboxes" by todays standards. They'll perform much less well than a modern FWD econobox.
>>15976215
They'll perform less than a 30 yr old fwd car because rwd isn't economic and that's a fact
>>15976226
>RWD isn't economic
>>15976238
I want you to give me at least 3 examples of rwd cars that can achieve over 40mpg
>>15976238
>>15976242
And are available in the states (no kei cars)
>>15976242
any bmw/merc diesel.
>>15976257
Compare those to a FWD diesel, not a FWD petrol
Not him btw
>>15976215
Yeah but fuel economy is not the primary concern. Cars which were considered econoboxes in their time.
>>15976242
>>15976246
Smart Fortwo, Mazda Miata, Alfa Romeo Giulia, BMW 3 series, pretty much any diesel BMW or Merc sold in 2016
>>15975996
>What is the best cheap econobox?

Diesel Mercedes 300E (W124) PRE-1994
Somewhat luxurious, RWD, diesel economy, insane reliability
Ford Pinto
>>15976281
Miata does not get 40 lol
>>15976281
>>It has to be RWD and cheep
>>15976281
Haha are you fucking insane
Mazda Mx6
Mazda Rx7
Volvo 240
BMW E30 (325e)
>>15976527
>RX7
>economy
>>15976503
>Smart ForTwo - 50MPG and higher
>Miata - 40mpg in the 2016 model with the 1.5 engine
>Giulia - diesel model gets over 60 mpg
>3 series - even mid-early 2000s models which are cheap get over 40 mpg with the diesel engines, same for mercedes.
>>15976527
The mx6 is FWD
>>15975996
What country/continent are you from?
You don't need a lot of power for skids in the rain/snow. What really helps is a pair of shitty rear tires with a lot of air in them and a clutch pedal
Applies to most places:
BMW 3 series with a 4cyl (316/318)
>ib4 slow, read op
>E30s are pretty old now though
>pre-facelift E46s have a number reliability issues
>compacts might look a bit shite, but they're light, cheap and practical. and many of them have more powerful 16v engines
Ideally: E36 with an M43 engine and a manny tranny
if europoor, you might want to look into Ford Sierras and especially Opel Omegas as well.
>>15975996
The RWD part is the hardest to fit.
Maybe a V6 Mustang/Camaro from the 90's, but they usually want a few hundred more than a better condition FWD econobox.
I almost picked up a Toyota Cressida for 700, but he was too proud of it.
Pick up trucks are a great option. I've got an S10 I save gas in.
Let's ignore OP's retarded comment about RWD and just talk about cheap econoboxes in general.
Tercel best car.
>>15976325
>diesel economy
They get 20 MPGs anon. The 190 does a little better and almost pushes 30, but that's FUCKED economy for a diesel.
>>15976942
Everyone already knows that faggotron, that's why I aksed my question and not yours
>>15976890
Pickup trucks are pretty cool. I like the boxy ones from the 80's. Also cressidas are on the comeup so now is probably the best time to pick one up
>>15976860
Wait, the Omega was RWD? Or is this a swap?
>>15977131
The Omega was the last RWD Opel, I think.
Why hasn't this been posted yet?
>>15977285
>>15976860
well it was kinda posted already, and yeah, they are rwd and cheap. But good luck finding one that's not made of rust in the current year
>>15977285
because no one here is europoor
>>15976242
>I'll only agree with you under these arbitrary conditions
wew lad
Also looking for something similar, im in the UK and looking for a low tax shitbox I can fuck around with and not give a shit about it
>>15977475
stick to manual, 4 cylinders
>e36 compact
>vaux omega*
>ford sierra/scorpio
>Volvo 340/740/940*
>Merc 190*
*might not get you anally raped by insurance
>>15977507
Thanks, sierras in my area are expensive as fuck, the lowest one is the equivalent of like 6k dollars
>>15975996
>RWD
>econobox
I don't think you are up to date on your definition of what an econobox is
Ae85? Not that you're gonna find one without everything swapped and riced to shit.
>>15976860
>+20 years old BMW
>economy
If you're not lucky, you can spend more money on repairs that on the actual car (assuming the previous owner didn't do it before).
There is cheaper, non JZ-GE engine Chaser/Cresta/Mark II. I don't think it can really be called an econobox since it's a fairly big sedan.
bump for omegas
>>15975996
A 90s BMW 3 Series or Mercedes C-Class. If you don't give a shit about fuel mileage get a Crown Vic.
late 80s nissan or toyota-anything, especially diesel
get better fuel economy than any modern econoshitbox, and infinitely more reliable.
:)

The true american hero. 940s seem easier to find in my state though and are more comfy.
