My dad sold his S2K for an automatic Z4. I have no idea what he was thinking, the Z4 is such a boring car in comparison.

Yeah okay, the s2kis more of a faggot car than the miata. In fact, more closeted homosexuals and girls drive s2k than miatas. That's because the miata is a true track car, while your s2k is a shitty wannabe

It hasn't been reasonable in a long time. I love the s2k, it's a great car, but extremely overvalued. As in, Jeep Wrangler overvalued.

I think the easiest way to tell would be that the AP1 has a plastic back window and the AP2 has a glass back window.

The other way to tell is obviously the year of the car, AP1 = 1999 to 2003, AP2 = 2004 to 2009

Here's a very in-depth comparison between the two cars:

You do understand the S2000 is beyond a miata there as well right? It also has double-wishbone suspension and a shorter wheelbase, it's much more rigid, and it has more power.
>>
>check craigslist
>250k miles

That's about right, and why I don't like them.
>>
>>15975714
The s2000 has a longer wheelbase than every single miata and it's quite a bit heavier as well.

Lol Miatas are like the Zakus II of the car world.

Cheap, and cheerful, plentiful, tons of spare parts, not very powerful but it gets the job done.

People modify them like the do Zakus with High Mobility types.

The S2000 is a full blown Gundam. Designed from the ground up as a convertible with X chassis bracing underneath, engine already highstrung and with forged pistons already in from the factory.
>>
>>15978136
I've owned more cars in my life than you. The S2000 is both overrated and honestly no better than a Miata. Only thing youre getting with the S2000 is paying 3x more with a smaller aftermarket.

If I was looking to drop near 30k for what AP2s are going for right now in my area id get a Z4M
>>
>>15973875
Yep, thereby making the S2000 slower, heavier, and less attractive.
>>
>>15973870
Fun engine, higher budget version of a miata. More power, different weak/strong points in terms of dynamics. Not a bad car at all but the cheap ones are usually not worth buying so you kind of need to buy a nicer one. Likely to walk a boxer of the same price-range however if you have Elise's in your area in the same price range, they provide a more pure performance oriented drive. Of course if you just want to out a big exhaust and huge camber on it and roll down the strip, the parts exist in the s2000 world to do that fairly painlessly.
>>
>>15977694
Closer in price to a used ND than any other generation, considering a great example NA/B/C costs under 7K.

You'd have to be an idiot to buy an s2K, unless you can't afford an ND for 20K or just really want to spend an extra 8K over an NC for a car that is not worth two NCs.
>>
And even if you are stuck in the 10-15K bracket the Boxster and z4 exist.

holy shit, this car gets compared to a miata a lot despite the vast difference in both initial price and how much they cost now

when compared stock the choice is obvious but that's a bit unfair
for the price of s2k in a good condition you could get a k20 miata, and honestly that's a much tougher choice
>>
>>15980648
>honestly that's a much tougher choice
It's really not. There's no way in which a K Miata is inferior to an S2000 in similar condition.
>>
>>15978192
>Designed from the ground up as a convertible with X chassis bracing underneath
Can we stop with the X-bone meme please? An X is the worst shape for torsional rigidity, and the S2000 is on par with the NB in stiffness. The NC and ND blow it away in chassis rigidity.
>>
>>15978075

Jesus Christ guys! There's so much shit in this thread. They're honestly a pretty good car (not hugely mind blowing but quite and the engine is fantastic) but they're overpriced for what they are. This is really all there is to say on the matter. Good cars, but the market pays too much for their rarity I assume.
>>
*quite good
>>
>>15980998
If you bothered to Google "S2000 torsional rigidity" you would see that the NC Miata is objectively nearly 25% stiffer than the S2000 (8800 Nm/degree vs 7100 Nm/degree).
>>
>>15981019
>overpriced for what they are
Nigger what is this fucking bullshit people keep talking about
It's a fair price for a car in good condition
>>
>>15981019
> Good cars, but the market pays too much for their rarity I assume.
That's exactly what everyone is saying.

It's worth maybe $6000-$9000 but they go for like $15,000-$25,000.

They are overvalued. They are not worth that value. They are not THAT rare. There's like FOUR TIMES as many S2000s as FD RX-7s. Over 50,000 S2000s were sold in the US. That's not rare. There's almost as many S2000s as there are FR-S. Fuck off with that rarity bullshit.

It's a rice tax, pure and simple. A HUGE rice tax.

For the price of a clean, special edition S2000, you can get a decent NSX. That's just retarded.
An NSX is legitimately rare, and a special car, and worth it. And S2000 is not. An S2000 is a worse MX-5 that simply has a sharper factory tune and a classier look. That's it.
>>
>>15982976
An NSX is 60k euro atleast where i live and those are the "bad" ones.
>>
The S2000's most direct competitor/rival was the 350Z. It was a step above a Miata, a step below a Boxster.
>>
>>15983075
Oh. In the US I swear I used to see them for $25k-$35k 10 years ago when I bought my FD.

It looks like they're all 40k-70k now.
Either they went up, or I'm imagining shit.
>>
>>15975381
Why don't you drive it if you love it? I just hit 210k miles on mine.
>>
why would you spend this amount of money for an s2k when you can get a miata for dirt cheap? I personally would never spend this much money for some meme 2 seat cuck car.
>>
>>15983502
The ONLY reason is pretty much that an ND will deprecate, while the s2000 will hold its value if you maintain it(though that cost to own is much higher).

But if you actually want a superior car that you can tune to be much, much better still, the ND is the clear choice. Or the NC for less money which has already depreciated plenty.

The same reasoning went into me getting an FD, though the cost to own is fairly high and as high as the depreciation would have been on getting a car that's just a fear years old instead of 12 years old at the time. But the S2000 isn't an FD. It isn't rare.

I feel like people are eventually going to realize the S2000 value is way inflated and their value will drop. It doesn't have the security of ACTUALLY being rare like the FD. There's around 10,000 FDs in the USA. There's over 50,0000 S2000s. It's both not rare, and not that special of a car. It's literally just an imaginary rice tax.

So if you buy an S2000 because you think it'll hold its value, good luck that people won't wise up and their value won't crash, because it can absolutely happen.
If I look on Autotrader, I see 373 listings for S2000s. 36 for FDs. Do the math.
>>
>ITT People who have never driven an S2000
>Trusting anyone on this board to not be biased autists
>>
>>15983622
I have driven one. I also drove an FD, and it was an easy decision from there.
And my group of car friends has a highly modified S2000 with a cage, ITBs, exhaust, etc. Everyone agrees my lightly modified FD is so much better and he's cucked hard.

Obviously the FD isn't a roadster, but I don't see why anyone would waste so much money on an S2000 that's not worth it. The ND is just a better engineered car with way more tuning potential, and the NC is so much cheaper so you actually have money left over to make it fast if the S2000 is your budget.
>>
>>15983622
I can understand why someone would want a Silvia, 944, FB, FC, FD, R32, R34, E30, E36 E46, ACR, C4, Stingray, Z06, TVR, Exige, Espirit, Caterham, lots of cars.
I just can't understand why why someone would want an S2000 unless it was in like perfect condition for $10k, not trash condition for $15k.

The car is not that special. You can tune a k20 to rev like that, or lots of other engines. The digital dash seems like an afterthought and isn't a part of the car's soul like lots of early 80s and early 90s cars.
>>
>>15983754

>>15983695
How is the ND better engineered? Legitimately curious.
>>
>>15983789
Oh. Makes sense. It's an actual rare car, and a good car. There's only a few thousand of them.

There's still nearly just as many NSX for sale as FDs on Autotrader, though. Rofl.

>>15983832
How much is an NC compared to S2000 in Europe?

>>15983865
Go check under the hood, under the car, and at the suspension yourself?
It should be very clear, even if you don't know shit about cars.
>>
>>15983902
That doesn't explain how it's better engineered.
So the engine bay looks nice, the bottom of the car looks nice, and the suspension looks nice.
>Must be better engineered
>>
>>15983902
>How much is an NC compared to S2000 in Europe?
not sure about the rest of europe but here NCs start at £3.5k for a '06 in decent condition and go up to £16k for a mint '14

S2000s start at around £5k for an older high mileage one and interestingly also top out at around £16-17k (30-40k miles, '08-'09 models)

you're trading off low miles / newer car for more power basically.

>>15983695
>The ND is just a better engineered car with way more tuning potential
i keep hearing the ND isn't that tunable
>>
>>15983978
>i keep hearing the ND isn't that tunable
The engine? Yeah, not really. You can bump it to 200-215 horsepower at the crank.

But there's more to tuning a car than just the engine. And it's a great platform for swaps.
>>
>>15983978
See, those prices are perfectly reasonable compared to what an NC goes for.

In the USA it's bonkers. The ricer tax is huge and simply not worth it at all. They're new ND money for an inferior, used car.

Crappy examples are $15k and a good one is $22k-30k, or like $12k for one that's completely busted.
>>
>>15984126

Not anymore, NSX prices have shot through the roof. You're right that there are too many S2000s for them to go up in price by the same amount, but you're a fool if you think they're overvalued. Clean ones are only going to get more expensive.
>>15983602
>good luck that people won't wise up and their value won't crash
Prices have been going up, not down.

>>15983754
>I just can't understand why why someone would want an S2000
Did it ever dawn on you that maybe you're the one that's wrong, and not everyone else? That there is so much demand and appreciation for the car means a lot of people must like it. People are buying them at the prices they sell for, so it's obviously worth that much to plenty of other guys out there. If there's anything that's difficult to understand, it's why you feel the need to autistically spam the thread with your dislike for the car.
>>
>>15984198
There's a reason why there are 600 S2000s listed in the USA.

People want to get rid of them now that they're overvalued.
