Nah I'm eventually going to try to get a BEAMS or 3SGTE

it's just so hard to find one with an uncut harness and ECU. then I have to find a transmission with an LSD and appropriate axels. It's a fucking mess.

But for now 5fse will be fine as a daily. Maybe I'll do an aftermarket exhaust manifold and cat delete after I pass SMOG

The one in the picture is the "new" one. I got it at the local salage from a 94 Camry, and it cost me about 400$. It had 140k miles., no rust or oil in the exhaust manifold, compression tested it ( although you don't get accurate readings with the engine cold. )

I hope everything is fine, I bought it with the intention of just giving it a nice tune up (timing belt, water pump, spark plugs etc) and leaving the block and heads as they are. I don't want to fuck around with them at all. I did take the oil pan off just to reseal it and make sure the crankshaft wasn't dirty or had pieces of metal in it.

Is this a bad deal? I don't think it would be that hard to figure out how to get this thing running, right?

What are the chances that I could contact him and say I have 800 cash and will tow it today?

For all intents and purposes, my mechanical skill is 005/100.
>>
>>15975783

Do you atleast have tools? And a hoist?

Make sure to check the block for holes and try to check the conpression (just start it with the fuel pump fused pulled) if it doesn't move that way try moving the pullys with a breaker bar
>>
>>15975809
I have everything, OK well my dad has everything plus a lift and cherry picker, it's just the matter of either 1) getting him to let me use them, and then maybe 2) getting help with the project.

I'm guessing on top of all the normal stuff like belts, bushings, brakes and hoses and crap I'm going to need to check the tranny and pretty much everything about the engine.

Then I'd have to go over it with a fine toothed find all the rust spots, sand them off, and eventually paint it. Then turbo black interior. Etc

At least I have time for it this winter, but I don't want to end up like the guy selling it because he got in over his head

So, My mark 3 supra has been having some idle issues. nothing major, usually giving it a little bit of gas on start up sets you right. Today after doing a pull however, the car stalled when I left off the throttle to cost home. I thought it was a gummed up idle air control valve, but that last stall was weird. anybody got any ideas?

wheels are temporary, paid 325 for the wheels and tires now in box. looking for probably some 19's in a similar color as soon as i can afford them. the stock chrome turbines are getting refurbished right now for whenever i go back to OEM. the color is Cobalt Blue Metallic, only available in 90 and 91, i think it looks better than the diamond white pearl on the parts car. i have. it has an immaculate period correct blue leather interior too. a week after getting it i drove it 1500 miles and it rode like a charm.
pic is of the day i bought it, a previous owner painted the chrome turbines a shitty rattlecan argent. with some aircraft stripper it peeled right off. if you have any non VIP wheel recommendations available in a 18x8 +20ish i would love to hear them.

(moved from separate thread to here)

My E11 ended up with broken rear brake cables in garage #1. Unfortunatelly garage #1 can't replace these cables and I need to get to garage #2. I wanted to squeeze cables so at least front brakes will work but the cables are too rusty to do it. I will have to travel 7km and brake using only handbrake (using towing services is waaaay to expensive)

I need tips how to brake with handbrake. Right now I know that I should use only 1st and 2nd gear How should I use handbrake? How hard can I pull it before wheels lock? What is the max speed I can use? Any other tips or ideas?

I have thought also about reverse towing where 2nd car in the back uses it's brakes to slow down my Corolla but it's just a theory.

Right now the plan is to do it at midnight when there is nearly no traffic and take 2nd car as scout.
>>
>>15981106
Gradually pull when you're about to stop and also use engine braking to slow down. Stay alert about the brakes locking up, quickly release it and gradually pull in it again if it happens. Hope your E brake has thick pads

No real story. Lighting hit an old oak we have in the back yard. Knocked down a 21 in diameter limb. Missed the house, missed the fence hit the FJ. Made an insurance claim, they dicked around for about a month and decided they were going to total it. A buddy was looking for a truck for his daughter so I offered to sell it to him for what the insurance company valued it at. He made a deal with a buddy of his to have it fixed and thats that. I would have liked to keep it but like I said I'll need 4 doors here pretty soon so moving to a Tacoma made a lot sense. It's by far the coolest truck on road and I'll buy another one some day.

If the interior is in good condition, and the power train isn't on its last legs I'd say go for it, yu can always swap a 1/2JZ in later

Dirty is what it is lol; its just the stock intake with an aftermarket tube really. A fair bit better than the stock baffled rubber plastic one that came stock on the IS300.

>>15998255
Nah you'll be fine. Its not gonna be like the gtr. They made a lot more chasers, crestas, mk2s than gtrs and such. You can buy a factory 5spd car for ~4k USD right now. I've already got my savings ready for when the '98-'99 cars are legal.

I bought mine for 1500$. Great cruiser and loves to get sideways in the rain. Extremely comfy and drives super well, be aware of head gasket issues, so if you desire to drive it til it dies, 1/2j swaps aren't too hard since it has all the factory bits already.

I'm thinking if I pull the trigger on this one (I'm really close just because I could literally walk to the place, pay and drive away, it's tempting) I'd go one of two routes:

One, can I make it sportier looking? Asking on /tg/ is easier than browsing a whole after market catalogue, or, second route, could I go nuts and make a decent sleeper out of this?

>>15999445
There is a decent aftermarket. Look into Serialnine, coilovers require cutting the front spindles and welding on the strut tubes or you can swap on s14 240sx front spindles. You can ghetto lower it with s14 springs and it rides decently well and you can fit decent sized wheels and tires. Are you looking to buy from a dealer or private party? Any 1k car from a dealer is super sketchy
>>
>>15999474
Private party, he has these weird price increments that include new wheels if I go up 500 or 1000 dollars but the running car plus stock wheels are 1000 total.
>>
>>15999445
Also look into backyard built on YouTube. His name is reilly and he's got a 2j cressida he just got running. Full sleeper status. I had the pleasure of meeting him a few weeks back, super cool dude and super knowledgeable.

Acknowledge that you're only driving it because it's cheap and it's to save money for that FR you really want.

It's basically a requirement to drive a shitbox FF here in the UK to make up for shitty insurance costs, unless you're over 24 and/or are making a lot of money.

The only cressida that came from factory manual were the x7's. These x8's can be converted using any w58 from a mk3 supra. Fairly simple swap, companies make swap parts. Also that car was definently a drift beater, the wheels are crown Vic mesh wheels which are like 25$ a pop at a junkyard lol. I wouldn't touch it for 1k in that condition.
>>
>>15999567
How does the 3rd gen stock compare to an NB Miata?
>>
>>15999568
Fuck it, it's a $1k car, if anything he can make it a project, I don't know how the kid could have gotten it sideways considering the 7M doesn't have enough for it, and it's auto

But then again I don't know shit about drifting

>>
>>15999595
Weld a diff and throw enough weight around and it will slide. Especially with some burners on the back. Or in the rain. But yeah that car looks pretty beat and apprently it's rusty. Likely gonna needs a HG after the abuse it's had if the PO hasn't already replaced, resurfaced, and gotten new bolts. After that though the 7M is a fantastic engine.
>>
>>15999581
Slightly better power/weight. Less aftermarket but not too bad. I know it's more competitive in autox (E Street class)

Oh yeah if they're bottomed out, they're bottomed out. My backs only have millimeters left but my front still has inches but the drop is even. Ride height is based on how you want it, I think it looks good how it is. Raise them if you're scraping around on stuff though. Just be careful on bumps and driveways even if they don't look steep. Also I have my dampening all around set to like 4/5 hard and the ride is still nice.

>>16002330
Wait, you had the 3vz? I thought T100s only came with the 5vz? What problems did you have with yours?

>>16002346
Yeah T-100's only came with 5vz Ive only owned pickups, those come with the 3.0 3vz and 22re. The problems I had with both of my 3.0 trucks was poor ability to spin bigger tires (31" and 33") even after proper re-gearing, they are useless past 3800rpm and hate revving even that "far" they are a nightmare to work on and if one of those infamous head gaskets goes it's not cost effective to rebuild even if you did the work yourself.

I know it's dangerous for the dog but I love letting mine experience the cold winter air on his face as he sticks his head outside. It seems proper for a dog somehow.

New to /tg/ but just recently bought a 91 Celica. PS rack is shot, changed oil and flushed the coolant system a few times since previous owner let the car sit for a year. It runs good but now when i go to check the coolant it's not full or at least I don't believe there is enough in there. It's boiled over twice but the temp gauge never goes past half. Only dumps coolant after i get home and shut it off. Still has a bit of rust colored gunk but not even close to how much was in there before. Oil isn't milky. If anybody could point me in the right direction it would be appreciated.

An empty car can be a good thing too! Do you have nice cruising roads around? I like having company in any form but sometimes just driving alone is nice as well.
>>
>>16005063
yeah you have a blown head gasket. I had a 3sgte do the samething to me. It always used a little coolant, would boil over, never any water in the oil and if left to it's own devices would eventully over heat as it used all the coolant up. The 3s and 5s engines are very similar is design you can take a 3s head an put it on a 5s block and when they blow a head gasket they normally blows between the water jacket and combustion camber. You will never get any water in the oil when it blows like that but you will get that chocolate milk coolant as exhaust gases and gasoline is pushed into the coolant system.

To confirm this is the issue take the car when it's cold and make sure it's full of coolant then remove the radiator cap and start the engine. As soon as it's running go look into the open radiator cap. If you see any bubbles at all then you have a blown head gasket for sure.

Well when I go to the gym with the Supra, I take the longer route. It's less than 5 minutes to get to my gym but I always drive at least 15 minutes before and after going to the gym. The streets aren't bad but it's not good either. It's more meditative than anything desu

agree with you on this. had a geo tracker with the same symptoms. if you started it cold with rad cap off the fluid sprayed up about 2 feet in the air. ran great, but would overheat if you ran it hard and then idled.

Hello /o/, just got a Corolla 13, with 36k mileage, no accidents from the dealer for 12.8k dollars. They are offering a 7 year warranty or 100k mileage (really only 65) for an additional 2.4k, is it worth getting it on this warranty? Doing a bit of research, it seems like it'd be a waste, and i'd be driving this on avg. 10k miles per year. Also, can i get the dealer to do leather seats and tinted windows, how much should that go for?

waste of money.
>>
>>16006088
Thanks, is the price of 12.8 right for this? And do you have any knowledge about getting the leather seats and tints?
>>
>>16006115
I think that is a waste of money too, your better off buying better aftermarket seats. also the glass should be tinted already even on the base model. price on that is ok, not amazing, but it should come with 1yr/12k mile CPO warranty.
>>
>>16006131
Should i inquire at the dealer for aftermarket seats or is that something i have to search for. And yes, it is coming with the 1 year warranty, the 12.8 includes everything (taxes)

Yea don't get the warranty. Leather and tints depends. You'll save a couple hundred if you go somewhere else.

Thanks, any tips to negotiate at the dealer? And any idea how much they'll charge for the leather/tints. Looking online, this car should have been between 11.5-13.5, so it was bought at an avg price. That should give me some wiggle room in lowering a few prices
>>
>>16009687
It depends if they really wanna make money on it or not. If they haven't had a good month they won't budge, if it's been there long enough, they can easily drop a grand. You can try calling the dealership themselves. My dad spent at most 1k for leather and tinted windows when he bought his matrix new. They just added it to the price of the car

Anyone else have experience disabling the DRLs on an is300?

How the hell do I do it?

Another day, still no coolant, or power loss, still no milk, and my heat works again.
Headgasket un-blown?
Either way, worrying about my 7MGTE is taking years off my life. Easily the biggest reason to go 1JZ.
