/o/ has always hated this car, and I get why. It's an entry level car, it's a 4 cylinder- it's inevitable to get hate.

I LOVE the way this car looks though. I loved it so much I went to test drive a CLA250 and CLA45.

From my take-

The CLA250 was incredibly fun. It's perfect for a rich HS kid- hence entry level car. It was somewhat slow for my liking so I tested the CLA45, but overall the car was a great bang for the buck - despite all the hate this car gets.

The CLA45 was honestly a blast. It was fast, it sounded good, I loved the look. Great car.

If it was badgewhoring, badgewhores could just get a used Merc. The CLA is just a fun and pretty car. Definitely would consider buying a 45.

my Merc has a gauge on the instrument panel that shows how much fuel is left in the tank which means i can plan my route/travels to ensure I'm always near a gas station when it's time to fill up. I think it's a great idea and more automakers should copy this idea.

CLA's and the CLA45 are prime candidates for being bought used since they are afflicted by sky-high depreciation. They kind of made a mistake making it so easy for a regular CLA to look like the AMG with just a sport package.

The CLA45 is a pretty cool car, actually, and they look quite good in person. It literally comes with a fully built engine - you can get to super-car tier 0-60 times with just a tune.

Honestly, though, I kinda feel like they should've spent a but more time on the interior. You jump into a $50,000+ AMG and it feels almost exactly the same as a CLA except for the AMG shifter. It starts to feel a bit more special if you get the Recaro's and the all the other special interior treatment options but it becomes a $60k car.

To be fair, Audi and Mercedes-Benz will offer free maintenance the first minute you start haggling. That gives you peace of mind for 48 months. And the average consumer in the entry level luxury segment is not likely going to keep it longer than that.

Some people really like the looks while I think it looks terribly cheap. Though it's a better entry Benz than the B class.

My main issue with it is the very shaky dual clutch transmission. Maybe they'll eventually mate it to a torque converter but the current transmission is shaky at low speeds and feels like crap. That alone makes me stay away from recommending this car to anyone.
