It's not a diesel, but at <2000RPM under some load it sure sounds like one.
The pic wasn't mine and I'm not sure it's even a 2.3L... I do have a 9K Aero that I'm basing these statements on - it's in pretty shit condition body wise but I've kinda stopped caring. Got a dented fender that's starting to rust that I need to take care of, the rest is just scratches and dings and peeling clear coat on the plastic parts. It's all good mechanically though, new clutch, water and fuel0 pump and suspension bushings with new shocks and springs still standing out. How many miles on yours?
Also, how much gas do you have to give with yours when moving from a stop, and is it possible to get it going without any gas? I have a suspicion that mine might be idling too low as the tach shows 600 on idle, but my Tech II says it's sitting at 850 RPM like it should. I have a TCS model so there's no telling what kind of fuckery might be going on.

Thanks man, its finally running. Sadly I won't be driving it any time soon as the brake booster is bad. Whenever you start it the brake pedal is sucked to the floor and when you turn it off the booster itself hisses while the pedal comes back up.

Yeah well when you have a 3.55 final drive it's kinda hard to always stay above 2k. I have no idea why Saab made the gears that long but that's just how it is. I never go over half throttle below 2k though, but in a 30 km/h zone in 2nd gear it sits at 1800 or so and I'm not gonna drive in first.

Nice, these engines just run forever. I'm gonna do the timing and give it a new head while I'm at it at some point. Got a new, unused head without valvetrain for €100 a while ago. I think they're still available at that price from a German site.
