its a flat four yes

the miata is lighter with less hp, so a little better hp/weight ratio. the only handling difference is that the miata's suspension is tuned to roll in corners a bit while the 86 stays level and wants to slide in corners

other than that, the two "seats" in the back of the 86, and the hard top, theyre more or less the same car on the street. the 86 is a little cheaper and a little slower, thats it
