Almost every new GM Truck, unlike Ford, they can handle a fucking empty toolbox falling into the bed without busting a hole through it.

GM = Dependable and strong
Ford = weak as shit

I still don't understand two things...

1: why Ford thought that was a good idea
2: Why anyone wouldn't just use composite beds anymore?

I mean really, aside from the REEEEE PLASTIC fudd lore angle, it seems like composite beds are cheaper and lighter.

If I understand it right, their durability lands somewhere above aluminum but lower than steel, but also they are infinitely easier to replace.
>>
>>
Also I prefer to think of GM in terms of engines and not entire cars. They have long had a habit of making good engines and surrounding them with complete garbage.
>>
>>15947629
Ford never thinks when they produce their shit. Had so many problems with Ford's shit that I gave up and moved on to Chevy.
>>
>>15947646
>how_to_fix_a_rotary.jpg
>>
Maybe someone can explain something to me.

302 = 305, yet the 305 is weak as shit while the 302 is a very popular sb.

350 = 351, yet the 351 seems to have the traits of a big block while being a small block; why?

If I were to get a Ford, I should get a 302, but if I get a Chevy, I should look for a 350?
>>
>>15947551
except the wiring on that was terrible. also solenoids clog way to often
>>
>>15947660
Yeah, they're surprisingly common. I was merely looking for a good in-bay shot of an LS1. Personally I wouldn't give up on rotaries so quickly simply for the sensation of owning and operating one.
>>
>>15947668
The Chavy 305 was a de-bored 350, which means it just doesn't have room for proper size valves. This means the heads flow like shit.

The Chevy 302 they made for a certain racing series (Trans-Am I think) was a destroked 350, which allowed it to not only have proper flowing heads, butalso rev quite high. It's pretty baffling they didn't just do the same thing for the road cars.
>>
Great sleeper. Looks like every other fucking boring ion on the road but with nice seats and a fast supercharger. Cheap to fix because domestic and has a chevy/saab twin. Cops won't even double take this car.
>>
>>15947650
>in this fictional novel I'm writing

>>
>>15947668
Engines are more than displacement. The Ford 302 is easy to mod due to how it's designed, while the Chevy 305 is hard to do anything with due to its internals (not enough room inside to do anything with).

For another example, just about every GM division made their own 350 cu.in V8 at one point or another (for those keeping track at home, that's the Buick small block 350, Olds Rocket 350, Chevy sb 350, Pontiac 350/HO; no Cadillac 350, oddly)- same total displacement, yet they're all totally different inside the engine itself.
>>
>>15947714
Totally forgot about the Saturns. Shame about their downfall due to GM corporate jealousy, they did some of the econobox things just as good, if not better than the Japs.
>>
>>15947737
>they did some of the econobox things just as good, if not better than the Japs.
That's literally the entire reason they were made- Saturn was founded as GM's import-fighter division, and was given basically free reign to operate as they pleased with their own dealerships, their own manufacturing lines, etc. with little fiddle-faddling from GM itself, intended to mirror how the Japanese manufacturers made their cars.

As it turned out, Saturns were too good and too popular and people were buying those instead of the other GM divisions (which meant GM made less money) and thus the brand was shitcanned.

I think the Colorado would be even better with either the V8 or turbo diesel four.

>>
>>15947974
I misread the filename and thought it was in fact a C5. So to clear up all misunderstandings: The C5 is the first good Corvette since the C1.
>>
>>15947983
The C4 has headlights that flip ALL THE WAY AROUND and a digital dashboard. Shame everything else about the car is rubbish, though.
>>
>>15947983
But the 63 split window is a C2 so your still a shit
>>
>>15948003
Credit where it's due, at least the C2 features IRS. But they managed to build a 180 inches long two seater without finding space for a fucking trunklid, PLUS it lacks an aluminium motor or a transaxle despite Pontiac having put both into the Tempest (posted further up) two years EARLIER, and even with the mystery motor it got bitchslapped by the brick shaped Pontiac Super Duty on the oval. The C2 is an overrated pile that built most of its appeal on looks alone, and none of its faults were addressed until not one, but several generations later, hence why the C5 is the first Corvette that can be considered redeeming for the nameplate.

None of your listed downsides matter.

>not fast on an oval
Dang I was on one just yesterday

>no aluminum drive train
It's a smallblock chevy. It's a good engine and is perfect for a mid price 60s chevy sports car

>no trunk
Who gives a shit

It's a car made for blasting down PCH or to Vegas while looking badass with a v8 soundtrack and for that it's an excellent car, maybe the best. I don't think many people dream about doing those things in a Tempest. I admit they went to shit after the C2 along with much of the auto industry.

best thing GM made

>>
>>15948394

I test drove an ex-fleet '16 LT V6 at a local chebby dealer when I was looking for a new commuter recently. Was not terribly impressed with the interior to be frank, although the LT's vinyl+scratchy "cloth" seats didn't help things. I thought it rode a bit stiffly as well, for what it's supposed to be. At least part of the blame can be leveled at the shit Firestone Firehawk tires that the dealer put on all their used cars. With some Michelins, I think it would have both ridden smoother and quieter.

Late A-bodies.
They made the same basic car from 82-96 in 4 brands and by the time they got to the later ones, they were extremely effective and had most of the big bugs worked out.

The large part of that is they were the most common, and have the most aftermarket. If you are looking for new or used parts you can find a ton for both the 302 SBF or 350 SBC,

Would have been fine if they did a weight reduction to the current model and gave it 300hp out the door.

My guess is the sub 7k units they were able to move and the non turbo versions' sucktitude
