...good?
>>15942697
The brand does not matter as much as you think. Just get fully synthetic and you will be good.

Official oil
It's the cat's meow.
I use this for my shitbox because tons of miles driven.
>>15942780
This, the biggest problem is plebs not changing their oil at the suggested intervals what so ever. And yes many (most) modern motors benefit or are designed to run optimally on synthetic oil, especially if you want to run the long intervals they suggest. See GM 3.6L timing chain stretch issues, it's mostly soccer moms with Traverses who ran the 10k interval and only changed the oil occasionally at Jiffy Lube.
new car?
rotella or mobila juan full synthetic
old shit box?
wow that oil that's on sail
>>15943151
>Implying going to the dealership is any better
The best way to ensure your vehicle gets the proper service is by doing it yourself. Unless your car has dealership only items
>Pretty much any new car
For daily drivers I just get whatevers on sale in the correct weight and make sure to have good change intervals
For my track car that spends its life at 7000rpm I like something with high zinc, good temperature stability. valvoline VR1, amsoil, etc
>>15943102
OVER 200K reccomended? I forget. Using Advanced Full Synthetic atm.
How many miles?
>>15943171
I didn't imply shit, just that people that take their cars to Jiffy Lube are dregs of society.
I do all my own changes, but there's a good chance that a bit later in life I'll have more valuable uses for my time and I'll just take it to the dealer.
>>15942697
Mobile is SHIT
>>15943285
Mine has a little over 100k miles estimated but it's not the original engine.
>>15943305
no u
>>15943337
Oh okay. What fileter?
>>15943361
Same brand. They usually pair up for deals at auto parts stores.
Hey OP as for a direct answer to your question i run this oil in my 1uz and i have 10k miles on this oil and its dark, but otherwise still transparent. I redline it daily and not a drop of it has left the sump in those 10k miles. I highly recommend.
>>15943300
as someone who works at jiffy lube. i agree
>>15943411
How does titanium help lubrication?
Using Pennzoil Ultra since it has the lowest NOACK rating I could find and Ecoboost is bad for dirty valving.
>>15942780
Yep
>>15943513
>Using Pennzoil Ultra since it has the lowest NOACK rating I could find and Ecoboost is bad for dirty valving.
Pennzoil ULTRA full synthetic has a lot more detergent than their regular full synthetic.
Someone on the BITOG forums made a time lapse photo series showing how pennzoil ULTRA cleaned some glazed deposits inside the engine. But as some people say, with old engines, you don't want full synthetic as it will clean away the glaze and sludge that seals up the gasket or seal leaks. Thus, someone people may say full synth wrecks old engines (which is an oversimplification). Clean is not better if the gunk was helping seal up the leak just like pouring in that "stop leak" additive.
>>15944439
If the only thing keeping your engine from leaking is stuff that shouldn't be in the engine in the first place, you probably want it to go bad and repair instead of limping on.
>>15943513
>>15944439
Walmart.com has a much better price for Pennzoil Ultra 5-quart jugs than amazon especially since the shipping is free. Just have walmart.com send it to your local wal-mart retail store where you can pick it up.
>>15944498
it doesn't work this way in the real world. when you have a car with a lot of miles that has never given you a problem how would you know to repair it?
old engines work because shit wears together.
Plebs
>>15943300
>bit later in life I'll have more valuable uses for my time
That's why you'll have an EV.
>>15942697
...better?
meh
my favorite
It's all the same shit
>>15943151
I work at Jiffy Lube. Can confirm, these soccer moms are cheap bastards and only want to use our most basic conventional, despite the Traverses requiring a Dexos oil of Syn-Blend or higher. They wait about 8,000 miles and complain to us that their car sounds like shit after the lifters have completely worn down.
>>15944439
I wish they made it in 5w-40 or 0w-40 but the closest SOPUS product to it in that weight is Rotella T6.
>>15948211
Funny. I have a rental traverse right now that sounds awful. 7k miles on it. Probably the original oil from factory.
>>15947174
>Plebs
No kidding. That shit is fucking pricey.
yeah it's oil it's slippery it's fine
Doesn't matter if I use the priciest shit or the cheapest, I change when required and when my stuff dies it's something other than engine oil related. Head gasket, transmission, rust, some other pain in the ass failure. I've never had a car that could have taken me further with better oil or more frequent changes.
>>15948292
7k miles is most distance to go on the original factory oil. The factory oil is basically break-in oil with a bunch of special chemicals that ensure everything in the engine wears evenly. If it sounds awful at 7k then there's something going on with that the dealer has to check out.
>>15948292
>I have a rental traverse right now that sounds awful
The problem with rental cars is that some users deliberately abuse them.
Jaguar XJ8 2006
85k miles
I just bought this on sale... Did I do good?
>>15951235
>deliberately abuse
Here are my rental car rules:
1. all gas,
or
2. all brake.
3. what are curbs?
>>15953796
I love seeing how high I can rev the engines in tho
>>15950858
I remember my friend had like 15k on original oil in his A4. I told him he should probably change it. He didn't think it was a big deal. That car has 150k on it now and runs fine. Guess he was right.
>>15942697
I prefer this seasonal classic.
>he doesnt use Mobil
>he uses synth blend
>>15951235
Yep. We rent these to practice bootleg turns and other defensive driving tech
