Important in the way of reputation for reliability and cost/benefit of the vehicle.

Always look down on BMW/Audi/mercs when I see them. Most don't have any real performance level (ie: too cowardly for a sports car), they likely don't own the vehicle, and they're in a life position where they need that badge to make them look good. I guess it's a step up from a SUV.

I just don't understand why someone wouldn't buy something else.

The Silverado and Sierra got a much worse rating in the IIHS small overlap crash test. The F150 was the only truck to get a good rating, IIRC.

It sucks, because I like the appearance of the Silverado slightly more than the F150, but I like the Ram more than both (and ironically, it has the worst crash rating).

The Honda and Mazda badge make me more interested than I otherwise would be in a car, probably the only two brands I consider very seriously when shopping for a new car.

I think Ford and most euro brands in general make really cool cars, but I'm poorish so the reliability scares me away.

You couldn't pay me to drive a GM, though.
