The good kits provide less intake obstruction which is a huge plus for turbo and N/A cars. Fuel efficiency varies from car to car, but any decent CAI will relocate the source air towards the sides or front of the engine bay.

Not worth the money on a N/A engine.

If you want performance on the cheap then forced induction is the only way to go.

You can fuck around with a N/A engine but you're going to spend more with less horsepower compared to a turbo or supercharger.

Get a $40 ebay intake. A full one, not those stupid short rams, and a good filter.
It doesnt add much of anything power wise unless you go with a full header/exhaust setup and a tune (and maybe even cams), but it certainly sounds cool.
Your mileage will vary. Most people will argue its not worth trying to add power to N/A engines without F/I, but for some, the high cost is worth the low return because of the ease of install, and minuscule impact on reliability

Whether it adds, removes, or does nothing to the power depends on the stock intake system. But I seriously doubt you could ever get double digit gains out of any car from the intake.

Nah, minuscule impact in regards to adding power
If you add a bunch of bolts ons to an N/A motor and slap on a tune, you'll find yourself under the hood a lot less than someone with a F/I setup making twice the power.
Thats the general rule anyway.

Not worth installing, unless you want one simply for the looks. There will be no gains. Factory "paper" filters will not restrict your engine, unless they are clogged full of dirt. In fact, factory "paper" elements generally filter the air better than most aftermarket filters do.

Only when used in conjunction with a full exhaust system and a tune. Adding it by itself won't do fuck all except make your engine run lean

I just got one for sound. Just the filter part because aftermarket for my car isn't too good. Sounds very nice though. Haven't had anything wrong with it either. If you want power intake really wont help. if you want sound there you go

best intake, none of that hot engine bay air.

Location is arbitrary. Your air of is fed and pressurized via a snorkel from the front of your car. Unless the cone filter in question is housed in a sealed box, it will simply draw the ambient air from within its location.

Some cars can actually get a big performance upgrade from them.

Ex. Mazda's 2006-2012 MZR engine, (ram air intake, not cold air) will give it an extra +12HP & +17 ft/lbs of torque. This is how shitty the standard airbox is, plus some extra MPG's of fuel economy. It needs a proper tune, however.

My OEM factory original is already a better choice as it has less restriction. The OEM one already is "cold air intake" mounted along with its own shock absorber airbox at a location avoiding intake from the hot air in the engine compartment.

So use of K&N in my case would be a downgrade. It would probably result in more silicone in the engine oil too.
