>do it. SV good

also brings me back to my other question. 96 CBR600F3 for sale for $1500. Appears to be in pretty good condition other than fairing scrapes.
Which would make a better introduction to sport bikes (NOT first bike) for someone who wants a proper cornering weapon?
CBR is older and carbed, but also much more powerful. Might be a little harder to get replacement parts.
SV is a memebike so parts are easily available. EFI. Veetwin sound. Slower.

>>15902613
Can't say as I haven't ridden the F3 (I wanted one though, silly LAMS).

I would say go and test ride both and make your choice.

The SV has no issues in the corners and like most things you will probably be the limit more than the bike itself, I considered it a really nice bike to learn to corner and lean (and do my first track day on) but I probably would have said the same if I had an F3, they're both perfectly capable so I guess the answer is ride both, check the condition of the bikes and make your choice there.

Either way you can't go wrong between two well regarded, reliable middleweights can you?
>>
>>15902682
if anything the sv is closer to budget suspension, look at the webm in the previous thread. dont know enough about em to answer your Question tho

basically the SV has poor damping, it has damper rod suspension, you can set them up to be good for small bumps or large bumps but not both due to the lack of a cartridge, it's not that bad really, the springs are nice and stiff and the front end feels quite firm it just isn't the best at damping, on those fast sweepers (like t1 at SMSP, 160 km/hr) is where you really feel that. On slower tighter corners it doesn't seem to matter very much...at least to me.

The F3 has cartridge forks though, they will most likely work a little better.
>>
>>15902613
I like 600cc I4s so I'd say the CBR, if only for the fact that to be not shit at cornering you need to keep the RPMs high and stay in the powerband. The SV650 with the broader powerband means you'll get good exit speeds without having to work as much on body position, lean angle, etc....

Once you get those things down on the CBR I think you'll have more fun.

SV650
>Lower skill threshold
>Lower skill ceiling

CBR600
>higher skill threshold
>higher skill ceiling

But if both are around the same price, I'd go for the one in better condition, shit doesn't matter if you spend more time turning a spanner than on the seat.

>>
I'm taking the introductory motorcycle class next week, they'll provide a bike and a helmet if we don't have one. I'm sure it'll be gross.

When I bought some gloves, I saw helmets ranging form $35 to $400. Would a $100 helmet be decent? Are there brands to simply stay away from? I was thinking a 3/4 helmet and a face mask or something. Casual riding to the beach and burritos.
>>
>>15902750

>>
>>15902752
full face, no less unless you dont care about your chin/teeth/nose, get a snell or ece certified helmet on clearance

shouldnt need to pay more than $150, probably less if you get one on sale
>>
>>15902726
your lower legs should be pretty much upright, but pointing back, leaned forward with your upper body. Point your toes in toward the bike to help you grip with your legs better.

Standing straight up will make you basically a really high dead weight so you'll feel like you're going to get flung off when you hit the brakes or a bump.

get full face helmet with snell rating (assuming US it will have DOT rating by law). Price really doesn't determine how safe it is. Just get one that fits right, isn't too uncomfortable (no hot spots) and passes the snell test.

>>15902717
keeping the RPMS high in a corner is honestly not the best technique, if anything higher skill is keeping them lower, taking a corner in the highest gear you can while maintaining exit drive is what's going to get you the greatest speed. It also feels slower in a higher gear so you'll go faster and need to take a higher spex speed to make the exit work perfectly.

Screaming off the top end of the engine mid corner makes no sense anyway, you're not using the full power of the bike at the apex so you don't need to be up near the top, if you are up near the top as soon as you exit the corner you will need to shift gears and lose drive.

It's why if you watch onboards from racing you'll actually see a lot of short shifting going on before certain corner complexes.

This isn't to say the SV650 is a better choice or not (i'd probably go with the F3...carbs are annoying but it's a solid bike) but I'm pretty sure everything you just said is gibberish. Every bit of experience I've ever gotten riding has been to the contrary, bitching out on that corner? can't get your knee down? take it in a higher gear and it's like magic.

Highside: As you're turning something happens and you and the bike fall to the right.

Lowside: As you're turning, say you slip on gravel, you and the bike fall to the left.

Opininins on a '82 Honda CB750F Super Sport?

I currently have a sport bike and an enduro. Came across a nice one of these on CL for an ok price of 1.5k. I want to keep it stock, none of that cafe-racer bullshit.

Fun bike to tool around on or no?

Highsides throw the rider over the top of the bike, the bike also has a chance to hit the rider afterwords
Lowsides the bike is infront of you and is much more preferable to a highside

I haven't really worked much with carbs, my enduro is the only one I've worked on one time and this CB has 4.

I'm kind of interested in the mechanics of it all. Seems fun. I can see if it was your only bike it would be annoying but as a side bike that you literally make work it seems like a fun city bike.

I don't REALLY like wrenching. Part time hobbyist, not full on gear-head. Who knows, maybe this would change that. The CB I'd be buying is in good condition - actually pretty great. Just parts needing to get replaced because of age. No rust anywhere. Flawless exhaust. Stock everything.

My sportbike is no crazy rocket, it's an '09 SFV Gladius 650. Tops at 120. I do all of it on my 1 hour commute to work (making it really a half hour).

I think having a more laid back bike could be a cool alternative fun ride to work though.

Really should sell the enduro tho because I've never taken it offroad a single time. Always wanted to go moto camping tho.

Well it's classified as a naked or whatever, but it's a cheap sportsbike without fairings, basically right? Isn't that the only thing that differentiates the whole naked subgroup and sports bikes, that they are less aerodynamic? You can't compare it to a high end GT bike obviously, but it's more in line with a sportbike than anything else?

bikes aren't very aerodynamic anyways because of motoGP, so it's not worth it

basically a few great manufacturers were pioneering aero that actually worked

and then the no-fun racer rules gang said it was bad for the competition because things like kawasaki shitbikes wouldn't be able to compete, even though good aero would be aped and trickle down to the riding public

Nah m8 it's a slow bike. It's a BEGINNER bike. Linear powerband, easy maintenance, goes through one or two owners a year.

It is not a fast bike by any means. If it were a car, then it would be fast, but it's a slow bike that won't murder cretins with the throttle control, shifting ability, and cornering skills of chimpanzees on their first ride, and that's all it has going for it.

The ninja 500 is so well rounded and boring that it will give you a taste of everything, but never a mouthfull. If you have one and happen to also have a brain, you will have figured out what you really want out of a bike and dump on someone else it after one season just like the last thirty owners.

New rider here with a quick question:
If I'm just cruising along at 40mph(64kph) in a high gear and I want to accelerate, I know that I should shift to a lower gear to get more accelerating power, but how do I do it smoothly?

If I let off the throttle when I downshift, I'll end up engine-breaking but if I stay on the throttle, I'll jump forward like an idiot.

yes but you need to blip, you can clutchlessly downshift as well with exactly the same technique. (preload shifter, blip throttle instead of shut it off) but I don't recommend it in any high stress situations as you will get compression lockup on the back wheel and that shit is scary when you're not trying to make it happen. The back wheel will either "float" (ie backing it in like so) or just chatter.

You want to be feathering your clutch to avoid too much backtorque if you don't have a slipper clutch.

and a crf250r, brilliant bike as far as handling is concerned but have been trying to get the air fuel mixture right for about 3 months now after putting the endurance cam in it, problem is you have to take it out and ride it after doing an adjustment because it is over jumps that it is flooding and then to take the carby back off you need to take the rear shock out of the bike.. so subframe off blah blah cunt of a job.

I'm late to the party but I hope my comment can be useful.

I own a F3 and it's a brilliant bike.

The suspension can be made fairly stiff if needed, it's adjustable front and rear. At least in continental Europe eBay is filled to the brim with parts for what's almost pocket change. Also there's aftermarket everything.

You can be very fast on one. I haven't completely mastered the bike or the track I was in and made the 3rd best time out of 22 riders on the wet with a fast group last weekend, mostly because there was a leaderbike and a CBR600RR blowing me the fuck out on the straights.

It does some sacrifices for comfort which you'll quickly notice if you start getting hektik with it, the pegs are fairly low and your boots will scrape easily, and the one piece seat limits how far back you can go.

They're cheap as fuck and built like tanks. Also this is like the gayest thing you can say about a bike, but having ridden a bunch of newer shit, whenever I get back on my F3... with all the character (did you mean: zipties and locktite) it has, it just feels right. Not too aggressive, not too relaxed, not too twitchy but not too slow to steer... it's pretty good.

tldr buy it

This morning Edward's lifeless body was found in the woods
He flung himself and his dirtbike off a steep cliff, his neck snapped on impact

He had a letter in his sweater asking for this forum to be updated with the news
He invites everyone to his funeral, on the 6th of october in st. Mary church, Müllenbach

Talk me out of converting a 300 exc 2 smoke for street use.

I'm reasonably handy when it comes down to 2 stroke mechanics. Love the sound, love the way they drive and deliver power. And they aren't that expensive to maintain as opposed to a wr450 or a exc 525 - which are a comparatively dull to be honest.

Premix is a bitch, granted. But it seems like the ideal ride for hooliganning in a mostly Urban area.
