Life's been something of a shitstorm.

Bike's almost got 6000 miles on it though. Tonight was the first night I rode in weather that was less than like 70 degrees. They weren't kidding in the MSF course about wind chill. Still put my toe sliders to use though. Made a chick crossing the street with her beta walletboy jump out of her god damned skin when I rear braked hard on purpose and slid my tire a little. She looked at me like I was some eldritch horror while the dude just spaghettied all over himself. Laughed hard. I got to be a decent rider pretty quickly, but I'm getting to the point where I can throw this little bike around really pretty well, I think.

>ur stil shit and slow faget
The bike has 27 horsepower on a cold, dry day. It clears 60 mph in an eye-bleeding 6 seconds, and then only if your shifting game is perfect.

Trying to figure out what my next bike is going to be. The CBR was always going to just be something to learn on, but I don't think I could bring myself to sell it.

The plan was always to get some Japanese, DOHC, water cooled, inline 4 track weapon that good parents warn their daughters about, but I think that's not the style of riding that I do. I'm realizing this the more I progress as a rider. I like mobbing around the city and going around roundabouts 7 times at 15 over the speed limit, and engine braking in front of crowded bars full of yuppies. I'm also now super familiar with single-cylinder engine characteristics, bikes with short ass wheel bases, and bikes that weigh comparably to a Sunday morning beer shit. I think a supermoto is in my future.

I've been looking, and I really, really like Husqvarna (not only because of RJ, but kind of because of RJ). The 701 looks great, but the FS450 looks spot on my style. About as light as my dignity, not really built for anything but short, fast track riding. And besides, just look at the damn thing.

KTM also exists but...

I'm also kind of thinking about selling my car. It's a 2015 Jetta GLI with a dent in the passenger door because some fuckstick in a work truck raked his tire across it backing it out of a parking space. Still making payments, but I think I could probably sell it, pay the rest of the loan and walk away with a little left over. With a little extra, maybe enough to buy something dead simple. An older coupe of some kind.

>just buy a used DRZ

The BETA is a bit of a special snow flake, it has a 1.6 litre oil capacity in the engine compared to less than a litre in most 450cc bikes (thats where half your maintenance on those bikes comes from)

they really did a damned good job on it, they are nearly competitive with the enduro race bikes like the ktm 500 even despite that.

Husky is basically KTM's top of the line bikes now, they get all the fancy aftermarket parts that the KTM's don't, if you were racing you would still need to spend about $3000 on after market parts for the KTM where the husky just comes with them standard.

Got another puncture in my fairly new Pilot Road 4, in almost exactly the same location. Fortunately I came to a stop right in front of a road worker who gave me a free tow to a gas station, where I fixed it with a plug. Two patches in my rear tire and I'm broke as fuck. Holy shit, my older brother used to ride one of those 103. Bought the frame from a baby boomer and stole the rest from rich kids rides on the schools parking lots. Plural, because he got expelled numerous times for this. Motherfucker was like a teenage godfather in my hood, eventually got his moped stolen and his ass kicked out of home.
Used to say those could reach 100Km/h on flat with some tinkering.

You made a middle aged frog very happy and nostalgic of hiss teenage years. Thank you sir.

>How did you guys go find fuel?

Definitely something you want to plan for.

Only really a huge problem when you ride away from civilization, at which point it can get pretty nightmarish, lots of cases of one of us having to tow the other until we could find/steal fuel.

TW has a 450-500km range depending on how it was being ridden, KLR was closer to 550km but would use twice the fuel of the TW.

If I were to do it again i'd definitely be strapping a spare tanks worth of fuel on board.

We ran into some crusty old guys on outback sidecar rigs where the sidecar housed fucking huge fuel bladders, they would have had range in the thousands of k's.

>Isn't this like a 20 minute job max?

I've seen professional mechanics spend HOURS trying to do a set of forks.

The Kawasaki circlips do not have holes for pliers like that to grip. You have to push down the top part of the piston (Fucking impossible to do as it is but now you have to do it with one hand) and then use an angled pick to fish it out.

If you have the money to blow, I would recommend going with the FZ-09. The GSX-R is very uncomfortable for any riding longer than 20 minutes. I also feel less in control in the GSX-R seating position because it's much more difficult to shoulder check/look in mirrors/etc... when you're thrown forward.

I really wish I got the FZ-09 instead.

Probably not too bad if you stick along the coast. I was tooling around with google maps and found out that driving from Adelaide to Broome if you can't drive on unsurfaced roads you need a 1,000km detour pretty much all the way to Darwin.

Don't find it that uncomfortable. I don't ride under 1 hour if I start her up, mostly ride 2 or more hours straight without breaks. The shoulder checking is true but I never had a problem with the mirrors.
>>
>>15899083
the roads crossing Borroloola, Normanton etc the 1 I think were not passable during the big wet season and while I never got TOO much rain I decided to go back south from Cairns to Townsville and take that route to Darwin. The Capricorn Highway. pretty dope route desu but very straight and boring.

I got to drive every single day, 6 hours per day, for one week to cover the 3000 km's from Townsville to Darwin. that was great

No chance of me getting stranded or cut off from continuing, etc. I was alone so I opted the safer route

Lost my wet weather virginity today, feels good man, aside from my drenched work boots and socks because I rode through big puddles.
I've been putting off MSF all summer but every time I'm about to sign up, it fucking downpours all week and so I figure I just have to suck it up now.

If I had to commute like that repeatedly though downpours, that'd fuckin suck. But just to gain experience riding in the rain so I'm not a fair weather fairy, it was fun. Once the roads get icy though, fuck that shit.

Nope. If your back hurts after only 20 minutes either the bike is adjusted horribly wrong or more likely you just lack core strength. It's normal that the riding positon puts a strain on your back. If you do some squats/deadlifts or other lower back exercises regularly you will be able to ride a few hours in no time. I mean it's a "sports"bike after all, kek

Never saw many kids around on my round but it was a pretty derro neighbourhood. Some funny shit happened though.

One time I forgot the bike was on the center stand after repacking it and I rolled the bike forward off the stand and onto the rear wheel, which was already spinning in first. Next thing I know I'm standing on the footpath with the handlebars up in my face and the bike balancing on the rear wheel trying to take off without me. Luckily the pannier bags slipped off the top to let my legs through or I'd have ended up under the bike.

Another time the traffic was shit so I decided to cross through a green-area and canal section between two suburbs. Forgot it rained the night before and went flying around a corner on wet grass and head first into a 10m long patch of deep mud. Couldn't stop or turn so I held the throttle down and locked my elbows and hit that mud patch doing about 50km/h and somehow made it through. My team leader saw all the mud over my bike and riding pants the next morning and just shook his head.

Pic related, resident on my route for all of one day. Ate all the bushes, killed all the grass and was apparently gnawing on the concrete when the guy's wife got home. She wasn't impressed.

honestly i don't think waterproof dirt bike gear is even a thing.

lol we had a goat as a kid, and they will literally eat anything and everything, we had a field of salvation jane that it single handedly ate it's way through in a matter of weeks.

I can imagine it's pretty easy to get the front end of a postie bike up with all that weight on the back, I had a postie bike when I started riding and I completely fucked up a gear change going through an intersection once, I found a magical place between 1st and 2nd where the centrifugal clutch hadn't quite engaged , revved the fuck out of it not knowing what was going on, then it found 2nd and I wheelied my way out of the intersection looking like a complete tosser.

Good times,
