If you really wanted a hassle free reliable car that revs low you should have just bought a Juke or Prius or something. If you can get it for $2k or less it's not that bad. You can find a rust free used hatch for around $200, or do what I did & cut out any rust & weld in new metal/reinforced if you wanna go wang.
Just say it'll cost alot to fix hatch & try to get him for $1,800.

As far as I know, they are a pretty good first car. For one, they aren't going to be perfect, so it'll teach you how to work on your own car and you'll learn a lot. Also, it's rwd (duh) so it gives you an opportunity to learn car control and really improve your driving, but it's not going to have a ton of power, so you won't end up like pic related.

Well as long as there's no frame damage, I'd say to try to fix it.
And part that's not welded to the frame (roof and rear quarter panels) should just be replaced if it gets rusty.

Also, if you're into modifying the look of it, I'd say go for overfenders. Cut out any rust that you have in the RQPs, and then just rustoleum it and then give it some sick hella jdm fender flares over it

I think an RB20 actually has less potential than an SR20 because of the way it's built. The RB20 is much weaker than an RB25, but an SR is built for much more boost than an rb20.
It's also heavier.
Still a great engine though.

What's the top speed you can get to in a 240sx with stock gearing? I have a thing for top speed runs and I'd like to be able to get the car to at least 150mph
Is that reasonable with the stock gearing? I know that they're drag limited at about 115 stock, but I wouldn't be on a stock engine of course.
What is redline in 5th gear?

Depends on alot of factors, from trans, rear end, & even wheel + tire size.
Not really sure how fast I've actually gone in mine since the speedo isnt that optimistic, but "according to a friend" we were going around 140mph when I let off since my car is a rattle trap compared to his Camaro, & my speedo was just pointing at the odometer.

About 150mph stock gearing limited. You can always get a 3.7 rear end and push that to about 165mph.

Been thinking about what engine to put in my S12.

I've narrowed it down to the CA18, but I'm curious whether getting a DET and swapping the turbo for a large supercharger (one off a chebby 3.8L) and running a high-boost supercharged build would be worthwhile?

I'll be using it as a daily driver and occasional hills run / drift / track event.
