Stop me from buying a Factory Five GTM... pls.
>>
>>15891407
Dont buy it. Looks cool though.
>>
>>15891407
You'll never find someone qualified to fix it when it breaks.

But it looks cool you should buy it.
>>
Door window frames look horrible, especially the top edge. Blech.

Allllllmost.

its a poverty GT40

dont buy it youo fufkin fagogot
>>
>>15891479
it's pretty much just C5/LS7 running gear (also a 911 transaxle from the late 90's)

so anything major that needs work shouldn't be hard to find a specialist to fix. As for little things, you could always just take care of those your self, I mean the car was designed for a single person to build it in their garage.

>>15891564
all cars that cruise 180+ mph have weird looking door frames bcuz the side windows tend to come out of track at those speeds. Just ask Lamborghini when they made the Countach and couldn't figure it out until the 90's with the Diablo on how to prevent that.

>>15891568
an LS7 used one of these is like 50-70k. Replica GT40's are only like 40-90k on the high end if you want similar performance to one of these
>>
>>15891407
>That generic C6 door handle
PASS
>>
>>15891479
Uh, OP would be the guy to fix it.
>>
hi r/autos
>>
>>15891407
See how low that shit is?
That is not a street car.
>>
>>15891627
So why wouldn't you get a GT40 replica?
>>
>>15891479
The point of these super cars is that you build it yourself and know every in and out of it.

>you cant adjust a cars ride height once you own it
also its probably just the angle that makes it look low, its not even close to being on the same level as stancefags tho
>>
>>15892171
>>15893722
>40 inches
because driving cars that low is just unrealistic. My current car is 48inches and feels really gotdam low. Also, i'd want more performance than most GT40 replica's can offer. plus styling feels much more modern with the GTM.

GTM's are ~43 inches depending on wheel/tire specs but are comparable to Ford GT's.

I'm also looking at C6 GS's which are like 48 inches. Huge fan of how much storage space they have.

LS7 powered GTM with a Carbon XR intake manifold visible under the hood.

Twin GTX35's if you could keep the plastic fantastic from melting.
>>
>buying a shit kit car

if youre dumb enough to consider it youre too dumb to be convinced not to
>>
>>15894240
Take one of these to a car show, I bet you will get more attention than most Ferraris. Also, Caterhams are kit cars, but the top spec ones lap most tracks faster than 99% of cars on the street.

There is something about a space frame chassis on a "super car" that really pisses me off. It just feels very go kart. I mean how much harder would it have been to make an alluminium tub? And then they say the GTM has a roll cage. Why?? is it not now a roll cage in a roll cage? or is the chassis what's classed as the roll cage, because thats just misleading?

Another American 'super car' with a turbo LS crate engine that's so highly tuned it can't ever approach the redline without blowing up, yawnnnnn
>>
>>15894293
getting attention doesnt make it good

it looks like a cheap kit car and its getting attention because no one knows it
>>
>>15894323
gokarts are fun so how is that supposed to be a bad thing
>>
>>15894293
Caterams are made to be race cars for the street, they handle really well and are a benchmark for handling on the track
>>
>>15894348
It probably isn't very good. But it would really get people wondering if it was, and sometimes thats what people look for in a car.
>>
>>15894347
I don't think the suggested setup uses a turbo. Factory Five follows the Lotus school or though where you take weight out instead of adding power, in this case building something akin to a modern interpretation of a GM competitor to the GT40.
>>15894323
It's a cheap and effective solution, supercars are supposed to be balls out, no reason to cave to the unibody meme when you can have composite panels to shave weight.
>>15894240
Apart from having to build it yourself how would it be shit?
Its not reined in by safety/fuel efficiency laws, so it can be very fast for very cheap, and FFR cars tend to have pretty decent interiors too although that's somewhat up to the builder.
>>
>>15894361
Heres the thing, a go kart isn't exactly the peak of automotive design. Its fun because its simple and rugged. A super car is exactly the opposite, its supposed to be well refined and the peak of technology. All factory five have done is weld some metal tubes together and create a fibreglass dress for it.
>>
>>15894347
you know you can put other engines in right? thats just what they recommend to use.
>>
>>15894412
Thus thing is nothing like a kart. Karts have literally zero suspension, a straight axle, sometimes only rear brakes, and a chain drive from whats usually a single-cyl motor. Yes it's based on a tube frame, but it's a tube frame that takes into account frame flex, suspension geometry, weight distribution, driver accommodation, and more. This is the peak of "fuck the rules" technology, nothing too fancy but well engineered.
>>
>>15894430
They recommend to use the engine out of a C5, nothing is said about turboing it period. You'll have 400-odd hp in a 2300lb car. That's looney tunes.
>>
>>15894455
yes, they recommend it

nothing is stopping you from using something different, there is a video with a 1200 hp engine in a gtm. Its about what the buyer wants. Thats the whole point of a kit car
>>
>>15891407
This "Supercar" is probably fine, drives fine when built correctly, priced fine for what you get.

Heres my problem; Whats its pretending to be, and what the owners are pretending to be.

Factory five market this as "the ultimate evolution of the American supercar"

>Ultimate evolution
>Steel and fibreglass.

A Kia Rio is more advanced than this car.
>>
Factory five is a good company.
Its really not a "kit car", everything has been engineered and is simply a " some assembly required" car.
>>
>>15894551
Yes, it only requires:

Major Parts from 1997-2004 Corvette C5
Engine, computer and exhaust manifolds
Front and rear suspension components (minus leaf springs and shocks)
Front and rear brakes, hubs, calipers and rotors (outer CV joints on rear)
Fuel tanks and flexible lines uncut
Radiator w/fans and plastic shroud
Wiring harness w/engine, throttle control, & ignition sections
Wheels and tires
Minor Parts from 1997-2004 Corvette C5
Tilt steering column and ignition switch
Flexible brake lines and calipers
Radiator fill tank
Wiper motor
Oxygen sensors (4)
Exterior door handles, door window mechanisms, and side/rear view mirrors
Seat belts
Vehicle speed sensor
E-brake handle/cables, gas pedal
Hood latches w/ cable actuator
Porsche G50 or G50 variant transmission including clutch disk, pressure plate, throw-out bearing, inner CV joints & starter or Mendeola 5 speed transmission

Oh, and some paint.
>>
>>15894528
Tube frame and fibreglass is the ultimate short of gazillion dollar carbon fiber stuff.
>>
>>15894522
There was also a really cheap GTM on eBay that some high school shop class had build and put an old air cooled VW engine into, but they even took that out and just left the support frame that FIT an air cooled VW engine lol. I think it was orange.
>>
>>15894528
>"Supercar"
You do know that supercar's really need two things right?
>Highest levels of performances
>exotic looks.

literally any manufacturer can make a super car, not just the italians
>Mercedes Benz GT/ SLR
>Lexus LFA
>Audi R8
>Ford GT (maybe)
>pretty much any Koenigsegg ever built
>Mclaren's

literally the list is endless of what can be considered a "Super Car" so why not a well done "kit car"? also the GTM isn't exactly a fiero with a body kit, it's kicked ass on the race track against many of those cars listed above.
>>
>>15894720
where the hell does a high school class get 25k just for the parts kit alone let along a doner c5? wtf.

>also, no way in hell i'd buy that let alone drive it like the top gear caterham 7 built by richard, james, and jeremy.
>>
>>15895827
I'm sure the C5 came straight from a junkyard with no engine and I wouldn't be surprised if F5 gave them a discount since it was for educational purposes. I'm pretty sure the whole thing was listed around 25k. Are the kits really that much?
>>
>>15895972
its $25k for the kit alone, then you have to pay for the donor parts/cars

Ask me how I know you haven't driven a decent GT40 replica (Superformance, etc.).

On a similar note, would it be a terrible idea to get a Stratos replica? Either a Lister Bell or a Hawk, realistically.
>>
>>15893813
>its probably just the angle that makes it look low

Did you not see the size of those rims?
>>
>>15897104
All hearsay on my part but it needs an older Alfa donor car which doesn't sound great for keeping it running.
>>
>>15897104
not either of those new ones, but you really don't come across them in the States which means you gotta add on an extra 5k to import or just wait patiently for many, many, many months.
>>
A daytona coupe is in my 5 year plan op.

Fuckin do it pussy.
