Running over a curb at every turn.

Honest question - how do you guys let it get so bad?
If any del/pickup takes more than 2 hours, you better believe my dispatch is gonna hear about and get that waiting time pay clock started. And if it's a trailer drop etc, dispatch has until my break to find me a trailer or we're discussing me coming back via bobtail.

I'm not trying to be a dick or give my dispatch a hard time - in civil with them and I'm friends with a few outside work. But when he comes to work, if you don't take your time srsly, no one else will.

I've seen coop do that one time i believe between Saskatoon and regina, but i believe he was probably empty. most megas pull 2 53' trailers down the #1 highway, but only ab, sk, mb and Ontario i believe allow it. iirc part of bc you can pull 2 53' trailers but I could be wrong. Quite often though I see a 53' and pup, 2 pups, or even 3 pups, but i believe most of those are restricted to certain highways. However many companies pull the Super b configuration, including the company I drive for.

>>
>>15875890
You'd think that, but you'd be wrong. There's 50,000 miles of highway in the US (just in the Eisenhower Interstate system, not including the other federal and state highways), and the vast majority of it is long, rural, low-traffic sections through the BFE that only truckers ever see. It's huge. Adjusted for inflation, the original Eisenhower interstate system is literally the most expensive public works project ever completed in the history of the world - roughly 70 times the cost of various proposals for manned space missions to Mars. The only reason we're able to keep such an expansive system in operation is because of those cheap 1950's-era construction standards. Rebuilding the whole interstate system to a higher level, coast-to-coast, would likely bankrupt the country. To increase the weight bearing capacity of a road, you have to dig up the entire roadbed and build a new one, starting deeper and wider, to serve as a foundation.

While most urban/suburban highways have been rebuilt as part of various expansion projects, rural sections are mostly still just a thin layer of resurfacing on top of the original roadbed.

Whenever there's extra tax money for roads, our politicians always prioritize highway expansion over maintenance. They like having those new roads & lanes in the suburbs to point at when they're running for re-election - filling potholes is not sexy at all. That's how we end up with new shiny bypass highways and full-stack interchanges, while lowest-bidder bridges from the 1950's are left to rot until they collapse.

What's the highest paying division for O/O's looking for percentage pay rather than mileage? I have experience in van and reefer. Could get a job for tanker or flatbed a year to get experience if they pay more before going O/O. Thinking of buying a cheap used truck so I have no truck payment. How much could I expect to make if I went home every other weekend for 2-3 days? Aren't Truckerfag and PepsiFag O/Os? Any tips? Prefer to live on the east coast near the beach. Virginia, North Carolina, or Florida.

Don't expect to get richer by becoming an O/O. I became an O/O and stayed at the same company. Only made $300-400 more a week after expenses than I made company driver. Experiences may vary, but that's my $0.02. I'd love to find a good company to work for getting paid by percentage. That way I can set my own schedule and do what I want.

>>
>>15878053

Some rule of thumb.

Apply to companies that hire ONLY owner operators. You don't want to be competing against company drivers.

Apply to a company where you are your own dispatcher. You will have to look at a "load board" yourself and choose what loads you want and how often. You are paid a percentage of the mileage. This is what makes or breaks a O/O and can be successful if you run efficiently. I know guys that will drive for 2-3 weeks and then take off a week, making six figures.

I know Mercer is a good company if you don't mind doing heavy haul and flat bed. Know of some people averaging more than $2.00/mile GROSS after Mercer takes their cut.

>>15878574
Get a better trainer. If they can't teach somebody how to back, then they shouldn't be a trainer. It's not hard at all. Just take it slow. Straight backing is easy. Just look at your mirrors. If you see the trailer turning in your left side mirror, turn the wheel left to 9-10 o clock than straighten back out, and vice versa.

But now 90% of drivers are coming out of these 3 week meme company training programs having no clue what they are doing, and dispatch sends them to haul a 30,000 steel coil through Chicago.

My impression of that is that some companies will have you work 5 days a week with 2 consecutive days off as a "weekend," but they may be on Tues/Wed or something. Having Sat/Sun off is likely the most attractive 2 days of a week to have off.
>>
>>15881713
I get weekends off but it isn't so great. Sometimes I don't get in until late Saturday afternoon and I leave early Monday morning. Or if I somehow manage to get in Friday night I'll leave Sunday morning. It ends up being a very short weekend, sometimes it's only 34 hours which I end up mostly sleeping away. If you think you'll be walking in your door early Friday afternoon and starting your week at 8:00 Monday morning you will be disappointed.

Obviously, eating at every Pilot/Loves is not an option. Maybe Subway is good, but otherwise all they have is shitty Arbys/MacDonalds/Wendys.

>>15882032
If you aren't driving or sleeping you need to be standing or walking. Get a refrigerator and a stove and a 2 quart pot and 8" pan (those are the bare minimum). Propane stoves are more economical since you can fill the 2lb bottles off a 20lb at home, but butane stoves are more compact and usually have better temperature control. GET A FOOD THERMOMETER. Get a bike rack bolted to the catwalk and bike to go shopping. Buying fresh ingredients daily will give you exercise and reduce spoilage.

Don't fuck up like me and start cooking like a lard ass. I'm about to fire up the grill and get some katsu-curry going that I was too tired to make yesterday and had pita and hummus for dinner instead. I was planning on salmon and zucchini tonight, but that's going to have to wait because my pork has been in the fridge for 4 days now.

Stripping uses shitty little boards to keep the center of gravity low. A 5 row strip with 4x4's adds 10" to the height of the load, making it difficult to build a bulkhead if needed.

>>

I think I hit Raleigh once last year.

>>15883587
Depends. Specialized equipment is specialized. Can't load much over 8' tall on a flatbed, and can't load much from a dock on a stepdeck. A stepdeck with ramps is probably the most versatile, but pull those ramps out once and you'll never find a load paying enough to use them again.

>>15883796
It's usually there for a reason. Either the yard bought it for their inventory, or drivers threw it off because it wasn't worth keeping.

The little triangle window? All those old 8100s and 4900s have that window. It's nice because they actually open all the way so on a hot day you can make it funnel 60mph air right at you.
>>
>>15884336
I had it easy. They would have the testing people from the state come to our yard every Monday and do it there. On the 90deg backing part, there was a little dip in the ground right where the trailer wheels would go when you were at "0" so when I was taking the test I would just get it to the "6" or "3" mark, drop it in N, and let it roll a couple ft into the "0" mark.

Is $1.80/mile operating costs too high (including driver pay of $0.75/mile)? The fleet average GROSS income at Mercer is like $1.90/mile or something somebody told me but then others say they've never had a year less than $2/mile.

I could lower the driver pay if I didn't want to take so much home time, but that's really the only reason I want to buy a truck. Still take $60K/year myself before taxes but not be a slave driving 3,000 miles a week earning 1 day off every x days bullshit.
>>
>>15884960
Kek, that actually happened to me in a newer International and I was lucky I left that triangle window open. Those ones only open like 2" or 3". Our trailers have a detachable handle for the landing gear so I grabbed the handle and was able to stick it through the window and roll down the main window with it.

Why do old bastards hate tarping? I see people turn down $2.60/mile loads to a good location because they require tarping? When I was a company driver, it was company policy to tarp anything and everything whether required or not, so I got used to it. You snooze you lose. Load only weighed 16K lb and I got good gas mileage. Treat myself to a fancy dinner.

Same thing also goes with coils. Always see people turn them down. Being picky then complain they are broke and blame it on whatever company they're leased to. Breaks my heart that these retards are tarnishing the reputation of trucking.

If you want to make good money trucking, just get a flatbed. Nothing but pussy crybabies turning down good loads because it's hard work.
>>
>>15885792
They turn them down because they expect them to pay what they did 15-20 years ago. They cannot grasp the fact that supply and demand runs the market, and think they're entitled to the huge pay loads because they been out there longer. I know what my costs are and know immediately when a load comes up on the board if the GROSS pay will be enough and if the destination is a good location or not. I don't sit around waiting for $3 dollar loads because I have a mortgage, $3,000 truck payment, etc. and don't know what my real costs are, so assume I can only take $3 loads and make money. Then bitch and moan because I got stuck sitting for 3 days. Just retire already. I take what is available and when I get $2.60 loads like today, it's a bonus.
>>
>>15885830
>They cannot grasp the fact that supply and demand runs the market,

Don't forget all the undercutting that has been going on.
>>
>>15886160
aka supply and demand

More trucks than loads out there anon. All the laid off oil riggers getting into trucking. All the felons and deadbeats that join company training programs. Dry van is a joke. Flatbed hasn't been too infested with cancer, but the rates are lower than they were. Still no reason to complain about. I only work 2-3 weeks a month and make my $3K/month goal after taxes and expenses. Just gotta know some lanes and agents. I mostly haul steel but will always take a random load once a week or so just to get me someplace where the good loads are. That $2.60 load made me a $586.32 bonus after operating costs which includes my standard pay. Usually put bonus money like that in an escrow/buffer account so if shit ever happens, I'm not stuck taking money out of my take home pay or anything else. I see people paying their mortgage with their truck maintenance savings because they can't budget properly, then their transmission gets BTFO and they got no money for either.
>>
>>15886207
And then blame their company they lease with or "the industry collapsing" on their mental retardation.
>>
>>15886231

It's about $0.40- $0.70/mi higher than normal, but I'm sure most with a massive truck payment are right up around there.

You have to be careful aping allot others numbers because some calculate based on loaded miles, and some on all miles. If you're running on percentage it's best to calculate on net/day rather than cpm.

>>15885792
Why take $2.60/mi tarped when you can get $3/mi untarped? Load I'm on now is $4.14/mi untarped and I only took it because it was the only thing loading on a Saturday that wasn't going to bumfuck PA.

Flatbed is relatively safe because you need more then 1 brain cell to safely secure a load. In my area at least, moving liquids outside of milk pays stupid good. There's one guy I talked to who has his own small trucking company, but he just cant quit driving for them because the pay is so good.

Hey doorswingers,
My name is John, and I hate every single one of you. All of you are fat, retarded, no-tarps who spend every second of their day backing into stupid ass docks. You are everything bad in the world. Honestly, have any of you ever thrown any tarps? I mean, I guess it’s fun making fun taking in in the rear, but you all take to a whole new level. This is even worse than taking your break in the fuel island.
Don’t be a stranger. Just hit me with your best shot. I’m pretty much perfect. I was captain of the tarping team, and starter on my strapping squad. Also, how do you determine how much you get paid for a load?

Say a 700 mile load pays $2.25/mile. That's $1,575 GROSS. Your operating cost is $1/mile and you have a 150 mile deadhead to the place. So would that be 1,575/850 = $1.85/mile, or $0.85/mile NET after expenses? Am I doing this correctly?

Most of the time the Broker will require you to tarp it when there is no need to do so, it is only to get him more coin. If it is steel, find out what kind. When you pick it up, if it lies outside it is going to be left outside, i does nto need to be tarped.

Shippers try to rip you off too. They lie about weight more often then not. 20k load and you get there and they start loading 40k on it. Then they give you the "I paid for a truckload" excuse. I tell them they better take that shit off the trailer. They try pulling the same shit with tarping. Go to a no tarp load and they say it needs to be tarped. Are you going to pay for it? Got an old trucker friend with tons of those stories.
His favorite:
>get a cheap load that's listed as 12,000# and less than a third of his trailer (reefer)
>it's barely profitable but will take him through an area where he can pick up another load for the rest of his trailer
>loading is taking longer than it should, truck is bouncing pretty hard
>he goes in to ask what's up, looks in his trailer and sees it's 2/3 full and they're still loading it
>asks the clerk, who tells him it's 44,000# full truckload
>goes back to his truck to talk to the broker, who acts surprised
>he tells the broker they need to triple the rate and give him another $500 for pissing off the shipper he was going to load at next when he cancels.
>says they can't do that
>he says he's not pulling the load then
>broker says he doesn't blame him
>he goes back inside, tells the clerk to take that freight off his trailer
>she tells him it's out of his hands, they set this load up with his company and it's loaded, he needs to take the bills and leave. If he has a problem talk to his dispatcher about it, she really doesn't care
>he says take that fucking freight off my trailer or I'm going to dump it on your lot
>she asks if he's stupud and tells him to call his dispatcher, because she's going to call his company and probably get him fired
>he says go ahead
>she calls
>his cell phone rings
>"MY truck. MY trailer. Get your FUCKING cheap freight off my FUCKING trailer"

My Father has been leased on to Mercer since 1998. I wan to do the same.

Age 22 (now): Somehow come up with money to get CDL
Age 23: Start driving flatbed for a company, or team up with my Dad. I'd rather not to that. We'd argue a lot.
Age 25: Have $50-60K saved up to get my own truck and some working capital. Get leased on at Mercer. Only have ~$150/week personal expenses for food, cell phone, etc. Dad will help me estimate my cost per mile and business plan.
Age 27-28: Have $100-150K in the bank. Spend $25-35K on a camper, $50K on a boat, and $10-15K on a beater truck. Have almost no personal costs. Work 2-3 weeks a month and fish. Take vacations to Thailand to get HIV and die young and happy

If fail, be company driver, save up $150K, buy a cheap house, and be a wageuck with tail tucked between legs for rest of life.

Is this a realistic plan?

Go for it. I rent the basement of a family member's house for $350/month, utilities included. My personal costs are right around $1,000. I'm currently a company driver though working 14 days out 3 days home. I would love to buy my own truck soon and lease on to something like Mercer. I could probably NET my living costs in a week or so and be comfy.

Question to the Aussiem8s, why do all your doubles start with semi tractors and never with straight trucks? I'd think you'd have a better chance on muddy dirt roads if you had a straight truck with more powered axles up front, either 6x6 or 8x6. Pic related, all the possible combinations of long trucks in select European countries.

Semi trucks are more versatile, fifth wheels are stronger.
The roads are built specifically to handle semi trucks. It's not just a dirt track, it's just a dirt surface that's cheaper to maintain than a proper paved road, and has the advantage of not melting under the unrelenting sun.

I'm betting money that you are going to have many more expenses than you anticipate in your little plan. Remember you need to insure that boat and camper and shit. Life isn't as cheap and simple as "$150/wk expenses". Just go with the flow and try to learn and buy your own truck. In 5 years you might have a girl and a kid and want to spend that money on a downpayment for a house.

What you want at 22 and what you will want at 27 are two totally different things.

Pretty similar to what I expect when "shipper tarps, no tarp pay"
>>
>>15895534
Boat insurance would be ~$100/month
Truck insurance + gas would be ~$250/month
Camper insurance
There would be no need in buying insurance for the camper because it sits permanently in the campground and camper insurance here only covers damage while being towed. However the campground may have their own insurance. My Grandparents own a camper there and I love going there.

$150/week expenses are personal, not for O/O expenses.

I would never trust any woman these days being away from home for longer than a day yet alone weeks at a time. I don't want kids. Having a niece is enough kids for me.
>>
>>15890790
My problem with the story is that as an o/o why wasn't he out on the dock verifying the product count, condition, and load plan? You can get away with being lazy as a company ape but that shit'll bite you in the ass as an o/o.

Gross is pay/miles. Net is (pay x %) - fuel - fixed costs/miles, this factoring net pay by the mile is a bit obscure. Net is net since that's what's hitting your bank account.

If you don't want to run heavy, then don't book truckload freight. Only time I make a call is loading LTL when the dimensions are off enough to bump the next load off the trailer, and even then, half the time it's not the broker or the loader's fault so I'm not going to be a dick about it. Pick up $50- $150 every time it happens on a CLE-CHI lane and you'll even out on miles and fuel pretty easily.

>loading ice cream
>gets four pallets put on
>they go to lunch
>they never resume loading
>he goes in every 30 minutes to ask what the hell

>three hours later all the cars leave the lot
>he goes back in
>there's a couple people in the office but the docks are empty and dark
>"yeah we ran out of time, we'll finish loading you when we open again in the morning"
>calls the broker
>asks if they understand that they will be paying him $2,000 to wait overnight
>he has always had a clause in his contract stating that the BROKER will pay $150 per hour detention after 2 hours
>most just sign without reading, this one did as well. Rarely does he have to send his other contract.
>broker says it ain't happening
>he says it will most definitely happen, and he needs an express code for $500 for time already spent before he waits another minute
>he gives the broker one hour to call him back with the express code
>at the one hour mark, he pulls off the dock, shoves the four pallets off his trailer and leaves.
>the shipper invoiced the broker for the pallets
>the broker sued him
>he counter sued for detention
>the broker lost
>he won

He says that's one of 3 times in 20 years where he actually went to court. The others were just brokers straight up not paying him at all.

>>15897273

>>
>>15897268

Depends on how hard your run. Your per mile rate may be like 10 cents higher, but you split it. You get paid all miles whether you're driving or not though. It's not worth it in my opinion unless you're a husband and wife combo that can't be separated.
>>
>>15897286

And 10 cents higher is top end. It'll probably be more like 2-3 cents higher. If you're getting paid $.35/mile 3,000 a week now, you'll be getting paid like $0.19/mile 6,000 a week team. It's not worth it being stuck in a tractor 24/7 with someone that isn't your husband/wife.

Bill is an honest down to Earth man, not some business tycoon that doesn't even remember your name. I personally don't work for F2F but I've talked to the guy. I have a company driver job with good pay and excellent benefits. I'm usually home every Friday night and back out very early Monday morning to pick up a 7-9AM load. If my weekend gets cut short for getting home late or any other reason, they give me an extra 12 hours off the next weekend. I love working here. If things go south and this company stops treating me so good, I plan on buying a truck and leasing on to there. I have more than enough to cover operating costs for ~6 months and learn the system.

Most companies won't hire under 23. Maybe once you're 21 you could get lucky finding something local. I would suggest getting a fork lift job. Just lie about having training and apply to factories. Watch some YouTube videos. When I was 19, that's what I did. I'm 22 now and starting school to get my CDL. Haven't decided what I want to do yet. The company I'm going to training for is going to put me in a reefer running regional. Pays $0.36/mile home every weekend, averages 2200-2500 miles a week. I won't know what I want to do until I get out there and talk to other truckers. Hopefully I will meet people like Truckerfag out there that'll show me the yellow brick road.

I'm not scrolling back up, but all the cashflow issues causes by shady operators leasing on, taking loads, and vanishing, sometimes holding loads and trailers hostage were resolved 6 months ago. Everyone that's assmad on TTR couldn't figure out why terminating their contracts would lead to final settlement issues because they never read their contracts. I get a managed fuel card, an MC full of clean inspections I didn't have to sit through, brand recognition, the occasional dedicated freight offer, and once I throw the chains in the box, scan the BOL, and finish my coloring book I'm done for the day. No accounting, no compliance issues, no ringing brokers in the middle of the day because their net30 payment is pending on day 47, no sitting in state buildings waiting on stickers, and I get all those sweet, sweet corporate tax breaks for leasing them my equipment. I get 87% since I was one of the first drivers they signed on, so I spend more on food I throw out every week than what I give them to be my pencil pushers.

They're really not a company for an O/O that's been in the game 20 years running a triangle with direct accounts and is home every Thursday afternoon for the week. However, for the 24 year old college drop out with 5 figures in their savings and a paid for truck sitting at home it's a great way to get your feet wet playing Mr. Big, super trucker after 2 years as a company cuck and fucking around a few years with lower risk than getting your own authority and sitting around with your thumb up your ass the first year since nobody worth working with will work with an MC under a year old or fewer than 3 level I inspections.

>>
>>15902075

I'm going to lease on to Mercer if tfag won't post more convincing information on f2f. I like to run workloads for the military and if that 20 percent t doesn't cover permits and escorts then fuck that. I can give 25 percent to Mercer and they offer much more. Only downside is I can't use 3rd party load boards and mercers freight can get pretty cheap in the winter. But my costs won't be any higher than 1.35 a mile if I finance a truck 1.15 without. If I can average 2 a mile there not including accessory pay ill be happy

>>
>>15902138
You don't understand that his success has nothing to do with f2f. He is his own dispatch and picks his own loads. If he would just post the boards he uses and his opinion on good lanes it would be much more helpful. All these retards in here thinking the company you're with determines your success needs a reality check. You're a business owner as an owner operator. If you struggle at one company 99% chance you'll struggle at all of them.

That's why I never deal with brokers. The company I work for is similar to Mercer in that they deal with agents. Usually the stop, detention, etc. pay is determined by the shipper. Most will say they pay this and that rate and they never pay and it's not worth the court fees suing over a hundred dollars. But there are still some shippers out there with a heart, but rarely. I think shippers should be held more responsible for the damage they control and have tighter regulations put on them. People always complain dispatchers are the ones pushing you to drive illegal, but it's the shippers. I once accepted a load that was originally a 800 mile trip (+ deadhead) I picked up at 5PM and they wanted it delivered by 9 AM. I told them there was no way it was legally possible as my clock was up at 9PM. They agreed to extend it to the next day at 6PM which was still tight, but I agreed. They later complained to the agent that I was late on the delivery and that also there was missing product and filed a loss claim. These shippers are shady as fuck. If you aren't back there watching them load the trailer, they will steal shit and all else, then tell you the quantity is correct and I'm ready to go. Stupid fucking Mexicans. I once had a load to pick up at 7AM and deliver by 3PM. It was only 200 miles. Supposed to be easy. I didn't get out there until 2PM. Everybody just dropped and left for lunch and then when they came back, they ignored me after I told them to hurry up every 15 minutes. Did I get detention pay in my settlement? Nope, I was late to the receiver so don't get any according to their clause..

3 months isn't enough. I would say 6 at least if not a year. Especially for new O/O's. If you've been around the block, then leasing to a new company may not be as big of a transition. When I started, I had ~$13K in the bank and thought that was enough cash flow to start. Now, I get really nervous when I don't have more than $100K in the bank. You never know what will happen this month, this year, etc. Your truck could die on you and need a new one, you could make a mistake and get let go from the company you're leased on to, the rates could tank and put you out of commission going back to dedicated accounts for a carrier for a few months, etc. It's not all green grass and daisies in being an O/O. You gotta put in work every hour your awake. Instead of sitting in that truck stop every evening wasting $20 on food and chatting with strangers, you need to be studying your load boards. Find out the average rates of different sections of states and keep updating it every 30 days or so. Call agents and brokers you work for, ask what customers they have, how often they send loads out, average rates, etc. If you don't do your homework in your first few months doing this stuff, you're never gonna learn the system and will file for bankruptcy within 2 years and back to being a company cuck.

How much would it cost to get my old 2003 Freightshaker Detroit 60 Series running like new? I've heard people tell me I need an inframe and other people say overhaul. What's the difference and cost? I'm burning through oil and mpg has dropped almost 2 over the last year. Just went over 1.2M miles.

Dommot. Lady should have specified SECOND right. And there were no "No trucks" signs at that first right, in fact there was a daycab parked there.

Get what you deserve driving vans. I quit after 4 months driving dry van. Was boring as shit. I got hired on to a flatbed company. My trainer has this huge Pete with a toilet and shower in it. Thing is wide as fuck. Everywhere we go people are moving stuff for him. I told me "I don't think I've had to back this thing in 8 years, people just move out my damn way."

His truck looks similar to this.
>>
>>15905495
Yeah, I know. doorswingermeme.gif and all. I'd like to go flatbed but I'm not doing it for a company. I'll stick to my comfy van gig for now.

What's the matter? Don't like doing a little bit of manual labor? Poor fuccboi white sissy.
>>
>>15905552
Alright I'll give you one more (You). I don't mind the labor part at all. I mind only getting paid a pittance for the labor, especially tarp pay. It's infuriating knowing a company charges sometimes hundreds of dollars for tarping a load, then hands you $20 of it - and all they did was check a box on the paperwork. You're the one that did all the work, why does the company get all of the money?
>>
>>15905552
That's pretty much what happened.

He pulled flatbed for 2 and a half weeks then quit because he "wasn't getting paid enough"
>>
>>15905569
>>15905495 is me, >>15905552 wasn't. I'm not that autistic. I just found van driving very boring. And it's cheap labor. Have you tried getting into reefer or tanker? I know tankers make good money in the southwest. Reefer is pretty good market too. I like flatbed because you're getting paid the same but only doing 1600-2000 miles a week. While I'm young and have no expenses, I'm going to buy a cheap truck someday and try out the spot market on load boards. Don't know if it would be more cost efficient to be under my own authority or do F2F. I know there's Mercer and LS but I don't think they let you use 3rd party load boards.

>>15905522
I think you're supposed to go flatbed for a company a year or so before going O/O, so you get experience chaining and tarping while tearing up someone else's equipment before having to buy your own.

>>15905577
Actually I think he quit because he wasn't getting the miles they promised him. Which works out to the same thing in the end.
>>
>>15907967
I feel confident I could do well on my own if I do flatbed again, I was already doing a ton better than a load of other drivers we see on the roads. I also kept the regulations book for load securement. And you're right on that second comment, they claimed I'd get 2,200+ miles each week and >90% no-tarp freight. Neither one of those claims were true, and they'd try anything to weasel out of paying me when I had to sit for any period of time. I once sat for an entire day because they had no loads for me, I was 500+ miles from home and they wouldn't pay me anything for it because I was 'within 50 miles of a terminal.' That day was what really set me off and got me started on getting back to Skyline.

How bad will I do when comes the time to drive a truck with a Eaton transmission? I watch video on Youtube but I still can't properly catch up on the pattern and low/high range thingie.
>>
>>15908044
It's easier than you think and you'll probably have it in a day.
Basically the stick is a 5-speed pattern with a reverse gear, assuming you've got a ten speed.
The switch changes between low gears (1-5) and high gears (6-10).
It's safe to flip the switch in anticipation of the next gear shift.
Operating the clutch is a bit different. The gears aren't synchronized so you have to:
Clutch into neutral position
Rev up or allow the revs to come down to where they match the next gear and current speed combination
Clutch into the next gear
This is easy when going up gears because you really don't have to do anything unless you let the revs drop too low by not shifting in time.
Shifting down to a lower gear requires revving up the engine during that moment where you're in neutral.
Don't rev while you've got the clutch pedal down.

Why is international so hated? Is it because of the maxxforce engine? What about an international with a Cummins engine? Because I told the mechanic I was disappointed i got an international instead of a freightshaker and he keked and told me international and freightliner were just a shell and the engine is what really matters. I have a 2015 10 speed prostate with a Cummins engine and he told me it was a good rig
>>
>>15908920
Mostly the Maxxforce yeah, but the cabin is also decidedly cheap. Doesn't matter much if you don't intend to keep the truck for more than a few years, but long term they really start to fall apart. At least that's the story I've been told.
>>
>>15908920
>>15908933

International trucks used to be really good, although that was back in the early 2000s. Everything they've made since has been cheap throwaway garbage.
>>
>>15908920
They're cheap garbage.
They leak air around the doors and through the firewall.
All the plastic feels like what they make the cheapest walmart laundry baskets out of, and breaks just as easily.
You can literally break the dash open with your bare hands.
The seats rip and expose sharp metal surfaces within a year.
All the mirrors wobble like jello.
The hood mirrors will randomly pop off their mountings.
The outer sun visor will wobble its way loose.
Every latch on every cupboard amd drawer will be broken within a month.
The rubber on the steering wheel control buttons will wear through within a year.
The steering wheel itself will be crumbling to dust within two years.
Every piece of plastic on the piece of shit rattles like michael j fox withdrawing from heroin while you drive.

Add to this, I'm cumpney driver for crete.
Crete buys their trucks for cash.
A few years back when Freightliner stopped selling Centuries and couldn't meet the price point Crete demanded for Cascadias, Crete switched to Prolapses out of spite.
They've since realized what a horrific mistake that was and are paying more for cascadias now.

i think that was what distressed me the most when heartless took over. up to that point gordo would pay you if they fucked up and had you sit for more than 10 hours. it was written in the contract agreement. it wasn't what you could make with a load but it was better than a stick in the eye. whereas heartless would forget you for like 3 days and get upset if you complained
>>
What's a good maintenance schedule for when buying a truck? I know company schedules aren't ideal for O/O's unless you plan on getting a new truck every 500k miles like they do.

I know I should be getting oil service every ~15,000 miles. That costs about $250 at a shop doesn't it?

What about other things and average costs? Greasing, air filters, axle alignment, tires, etc. Just preventative maintenance, not a overhaul or anything.
