What's the worst car maintenance you've ever seen, /o/?
>2nd year of uni
>one of classmates uses his father's very old GMC suburban to get around
>doesn't know shit about cars, but he's a very chill dude and admits it straight up
>calls me one night at 11 pm needing my help
>he said smoke was getting out of the hood so he stopped the car and called me
>drive over to him to see what's wrong
>wait till car cools off
>unscrew radiator cap
>nothing inside
>literally nothing
>radiator is so dry I am reminded of the night I lost my virginity
>ask him when was the last time he checked it
>"oh anon I never did desu"
>he got the car from his dad 5 years ago
>5 years
>in a car that needs 17L of coolant to circulate
>5 fucking years
>a fucking baby born 5 years ago would be able to walk, talk and shit in a toilet by now
I showed him how to add coolant and how often he needs to check and add more if needed. To this day I am still baffled how the engine survived this long with it constantly overheating every time it ran. He still has the car and it still runs.
>pic related, same car
> Lady friend of mine finances for an 08 Trailblazer in 2013
> Poor as shit, can only make payments, has a kid after
> January 2016, she brings the thing to my home garage for full service + brakes.
> pads worn down to metal all around, discs are paper thin
> with engine hot, oil is like sludge, comes out of drain like cold gear oil, as black as night.
> me, inquire about service history
> none.
> truck looks like it's starred in an action flick as a stunt car
> still owes on it
>Friend had corolla that was sitting for about a year
>Told them to change the oil and check the fluids or take it somewhere to do it
>They didn't
>Called me up 'hurr smells like burning and it's not running right'
>Go look
>It has no coolant
>It has no oil
>No fucking fluids in it AT ALL
>Put water in
>Put oil in
That was 2 years ago and it's still going today.

Preaching to the choir, senpai.
Still pretty impressive it drove 30km or so with no oil or water and didn't give a shit. Was an AE101 so probably a 4A-FE.
>>15861991
And when it blows up the month after you work on it, guess who she's gonna sue nigger
Don't touch unserviced shit.
>>15861994
Yeah well
I know GM fangirls will defend their shitty cars so I was preemptively making an obvious claim.
I learned car maintenance on a jap car and if I screwed up I always knew she was going to forgive me and keep going.
>>15862001
>brake work, oil change, clearing CEL, etc
Simple shit, I'm not replacing head gaskets every job. Also I like to make sure my friends/family aren't getting fucked by a hs dropout mechanic.
>>15862001
Would this stand up in court or get thrown out?
>>15861984
Something wrong with using one's own mechanical skills to make money on the side? I afford myself a decent lifestyle just doing a few hours of side work a night.
> have 2.5 car garage w/ attached pole barn and car hoist
> be career railroad mechanic w/ retirement plan
> tools provided, complete snap-on toolset at home
> make a enough on the side fixing cars and doing construction to put over an extra g a month into savings
> have three cars
> still apparently a cuck or whatever

Friend A:
2006 altima 3.5
>ask me to change oil
>say ok
>drain plug on tighter then a lug nut
>oil is blacker then black coffee
>ask when he changed last
>"not for like 12k miles"
> the fuck is wrong with you
>"I thought it was ok because it is synthetic and it burns so much oil so I put a quart in like every month"
>the fuck
>tell him he has to change his oil more often especially since he drives like an ass hole and hits red line every day
4-5 months later rod through side of block, rip vq35de 110k miles didn't even know it was possible to do that to one
Friend B:
>owns mazda speed3 newer gen 2012 or w/e
>cranks up boost to like 25 psi or so, everything stock
>tell him its gonna blow up every time I see him
>engine blows up
>he gets one out of a junk yard installed
>person installing it fucked up rear main seal
>leaks like a quarter of a quart of oil every time he parks
>every time I see him tell him he has to get that shit fixed
>car wont go past 14 psi of boost without mis firing now
>he overfills oil by over a quart
>the person that installed the motor and fucked up the rear main seal gives him $1300 or so to get it fixed somewhere else
>5 months later still not fixed
Its just a matter of time before he blows up that motor now. I wont even invite him over my house anymore because I have well water and there is so much oil everywhere when he would come over. He wont even put a piece of cardboard under it. Last time I went to his house it looked like the gulf of mexico after BP, half the grass is dead and covered in oil, 80% of driveway has oil all over it.
Can I call the EPA or something on him? It seriously pisses me off so much that they gave him the money to get it fixed and he still hasn't done it.

I-I should probably go get my car inspected

Sucks the little shit didn't killed herself.
The dad is a big hairy pussy too.
>>15862287
I'm not too concerned about it. Literally another day at the office.
I'm just glad I'm not getting a call telling me not to come in at all because someone tried to rob us and we're closing for the day (last week)
>>15862038
You would have to explicitly prove that the mechanic's negligence caused the malfunction. Which would not be possible if all he did was add fluids
>>15861900
Iron block and iron heads no shits given.

> I don't know how law works: the post.
I know its a litigation culture now, but despite what you may think you can't actually sue for everything.
I mean, you can. But that doesn't mean it will actually stand up.
>>15862972
While this is true, you're still stuck footing the bill for your defence against Johnny Retard, as well as all your time wasted to reach that obvious conclusion
I was lurking this thread to see what kind of vehicles can go the distance with even the most abusive owners. While I wanted to lurk more, I also wanted to ask, would an early 2000s Durango fit that bill well?
