Ayy
I havent had a yota for a few years. But i plan to get a RAV4 soon.
Pic is my last two yotas
>>
>>15860754
RAV4's are pretty based, especially the 01-05 models. The last generation where you could get an AWD with manual...

Something about old Toyota compacts just gives me a raging boner. Do you ever regret getting rid of either?
>>
>>15860748
kek, i'll play along
>>
>>15860761
I do plan on 01 to 05 rav4 actually
I regret selling both. I just had too many cars and those two were the least driven.
Some day ill get another corolla. Probably not a other mr2 though.
>>
>>15860754
nice ae82 anon, I recently picked up an ae82 twincam for $450. it's a piece of shit but it's great fun to drive and I love it
>>
>>15860770

>protip
Put Mr2 rear lowering spring on.
Regular front lowering spring. Handles super nice.
We never got 4dr in the US.
>>
>>15860764
ohaithar
>>
>>15860777
it's already got lowering springs luckily. my goal with it is just to tidy it up and fix the broken bits. I wish we had the 2 door instead here, they look great

I've got a nice skyline as well and I've been almost exclusively driving the corolla since I got it. there's just something great about a light, revvy manual shitbox
>>
>>15860797
I enjoyed my corolla far more than the mr2 or even my miata.
Something about how happy the car was to be running.
>>
>>15860790
I wonder why they don't just pick up a hilux from whatever shithole they're stationed in. I'm sure they're a lot cheaper than a Taco and their frames are more robust.

After a brief fling with a '00 Maxima (poorly put together cars with a strong motor), I'm back to an all Toyota garage:

first is my '96 4Runner Limited. Bought with a meager 99k in 2013, have since caught it up on maintenance and wear items 100%, have taken a number of fun trips in it, perfect weekend hauler and camping vehicle.
>>

next up is my new daily driver. '96 ES300 with 203k miles that I just picked up for $1600. A few minor quirks to take care of (blower motor control iffy, suspension clunk in the rear, power steering drops out at times, ABS light on) but a VERY well taken care of car in general. Maintained religiously with oil and ATF changes, just had a new battery put in, wheel bearing, exhaust work. Cruises down the highway beautifully, interior is in awesome shape. Quality of materials and thoughtful touches can't be beat on these mid-90s Lexi. The next ES (97+) started to get decontented IMO.

just do a head swap bro. Find a blown 16V 4age off a GTS, take the head off your 7afe and throw a 7age together, make more power. Basically a 4age with an extra 200cc, you'll probably be making around 115 whp. If you spend a little extra and find a 20V head you could probably make 140 whp if it's tuned right.

If you bolt a G head on the 7A block youll end up with the same HP as a stock 7A (which is hardly more than a 4A) and have spent a ton of time and money for nothing.

No, it's missing the extra strokes above the last character for that. They dropped the strokes because the stroke count as it is now is considered lucky.

They're pretty interesting cars. I still find it weird how lift kicks in at 7k and the gearing's so widely spaced that you have to drop out of lift after every shift, though. Do you know if there's a way to at least get lift to kick in at a lower RPM?

157,000 miles on the 4age and it actually runs pretty good, only problem is a vaccum leak that I need to look up a diagram for. Drove 2 hours and 30 minutes into pa to get it and it made the trip back just fine. It actually really fun to drive. Speakers were garbage the entire drive back though.

Actually I think in the 03 matrix XRS lift kicks in at 6200. A common mod for the Corolla XRS is to swap in an ecu from a matrix to lower the lift point.

You would need to modify the under body heavily for the drive shaft and then weld mounts for the rear differential and axels.

It's a lot harder than it sounds. Probably 10k minimum. Just wait for 2019 and import a gt4

This

As far as I am aware I thought this is what Tsuchiya did to his project 86 and it puts out a respectable amount of power and torque compared to the regular 4age.

Think his is a Carina 7AFE/20v 4AGE heads/ITB's and the typical other goodies done by a good engine builder though.

Anyone here completed a 20v swap on an MR2?

There's one near me going for 1000, for about 150 I could have it towed to my house and garage, but according to the seller the swap isn't done, everything is there except exhaust.

I feel like I could accomplish this with a step by step type deal, if it weren't a half done job by someone who is clearly selling it because he's in over his head.

Worth it? Is there any wiki or video guide I can study so that I might be more confident and could actually make something of this?

If you have the space, time and money to invest, I think it's something you could do yourself. It will be difficult if you have no mechanical knowledge, but you will learn a lot. If it were me, I would start over with the swap. You don't know how well the previous owner did the swap.

That's what I was thinking once I got it into my garage. I understand the "theory" of cars (systems and such and how they work) from working on stuff in the army, but I'm used to using a maintenance device that says "[thing] is broke. Do x."

Outside of regular pcms anyways. I know how to turn a wrench, I mean.

Fuck I really want this car, I'm on the fence, but I can always just save up again and pick up something more complete.

How would I start over? Just gut everything?

At the moment I'm stuck with pic related. (Not my actual car obviously) how do I modify it? I feel like this corolla gen looks so generic that it's difficult to make aesthetic beyond darker alloy rims, decent tires, and some semblance of a good color paint.

I guess I could make it a sleeper but hell I don't know that much about internal upgrades beyond what I've read out of a basics book on car performance upgrades. Stock engine shifts at 4k rpm so that's my powerband, but it's >automatic.

Maybe I should wait until it's paid for and sell for a cheap old '88 pickup. Those guys are fun to lift with fuckhueg tires.

This might belong in a different thread but I just picked up this guy's 1988 mr2 for cheap, it was in a fender bender and needs the hood and bumper replaced, no big deal.

Once I replace the bushings, timing, fluids and filters (maybe add cai as well) what can I do to maximize my fuel efficiency? Other than driving style?
