I'd cross out the WRX from that list. STi is a bit nicer though.
>>
>>15831556
This, I drove the Cayman GT4 and boy was it awesome af.
>>
>>15831519
For me most enjoyable were caymans and r8.

I agree with S2000 but 911?

They're ok but I never particularly liked them

I generally hate European cars, but VAG has some clean-shifting transmissions. I've driven mostly American or Japanese manuals (trucks, 4wds, ponys, rice coupes) and the Audi / VW 6-speeds* have felt the smoothest to me, with hondas as a close second. I would never buy a VW or Audi though.

I had an '06 STi for 6 years and the shifting was "crunchy" if you weren't used to the car, the clutch was also very heavy with a small grab zone. These things can indicate better transmission strength, and probably do on a high-torque AWD car (2WDs can spin their wheels if given too much power, triple-LSD-equipped AWD cars generally stress the transmission, differentials, and clutch since it's harder to spin the tires. It certainly didn't feel 'comfy' to shift though.

* I have driven: '05 S4, TT 225, 5-cyl new beetle, Golf GTI VR6.

Pic somewhat related, my first car, taken october '07. It's shift feel was decent.
>>
>>15831822
Not really, no. I miss the SNIKT shifters that Hondas of old had.
>>
>>15831806
they're called gated shifters

FD RX7

Short, the right mix of ratchety and smooth, and in the perfect spot
>>
>>15831556
>pre-2005 honda

Could not agree more on that. I really don't know what they did after.
>>
>>15832093
You have the opposite taste of the general consensus. Honda is widely considered to have god tier manuals, and BMW ones to be shitty.

Nobody likes Nissan/Mitsu manuals though.

That's the most apt description I've heard for it.

My old MR2 Spyder had the best shifter out of any car I've ever driven. If it was just slightly shorter it would be completely perfect

Nissan is shit, I can verify that. I have an old BMW and the 5sp box is orgasmic when you rev match and slide it in correctly.

Also, since when is Honda "widely considered" to be good, I thought the only people that liked them were faggots who drive a riced civic and are royally butthurt about not getting another car.

I'm glad auto shifters are becoming their own style. Stalk shifters are good for vans and trucks, these kinds of shifters are good for cars.

It's really a preference thing. I really like the shifter on my 07 Civic Si because "responsive" I guess is the best word for it. You can feel it knotch into gear but it's not clunky at all, and it makes the drive feel more rewarding than say a Focus ST, which I thought felt like a toy almost given how easy and smooth it is to just throw the shifter around.

Also not sure why people keep mentioning the WRX, my brother has a 2015 with the STi short throw I believe, and it feels very disappointing...
>>
>>15835573

The VA1 WRX's 6 speed is just the old 5-speed with a 6th gear tacked on. The Subaru 5-speed was never great.

The 6 speed in the actual WRX STi is a unique unit only for that car, and feels much better. It can hold good power too.

Shifts are rubbery and loooooong

F-150 I learned on was a 2/10 but it had 200k on original clutch
