I hope that it does stay simple in lay out
the oldest kind has a perimeter frame supporting the body and drive line
where as the more recent kind has the torque tube acting as the back bone to a uni body and sub frames

the normal problems with mid engines and the transmission links should be ok
given the experience corvette has with remote mounted transaxle up to this point

at a guess going on what principals I have derived so far
compared to current gen the mid engined corvette should be more stable under acceleration but cause more problems under breaking

Sure, although the only way i see that happening is if GM randomly starts developing their own rotaries. (it would mean more kinks being worked out and overall better for rotary enthusiast if more people are actually working on/developing them)

that would basically be mazda helping create a RX9 competitor that can steal sales away from the RX9. Corvette stingrays go for about $50,000 new and unless the new RX9 is cheaper than that mazda would be helping another manufacturer undercut them and i don't think they have anything to gain by doing that unless they charge GM a shit-ton of money for their rotaries and i don't think GM or any other manufacturer is going to pay that when their money would be better spent researching Hybrid and Electric-car technology which is the latest trend and would be a better profit.

i remember reading this article as well. i just don't see how they can develop a mid engine corvette and still keep it at a reasonable price point. the relative affordability is what makes the corvette so popular. i could see it branded as a cadillac with a limited release to compete directly with the gt40 since the vette doesn't really have a direct competitor in the u.s. market.
