What would cause my steering to become loose right after spinning in the rain?
It was raining and I was on the highway in fifth gear at 1/4 throttle when I went into an unprovoked spin during a small turn on the highway. 360 degrees and was lucky I didnt go off the road. Then I noticed the steering was loose. My wheels don't appear to be out of allignment and the steering is centered, there just seems to be more play on center.
Ball joint went bad maybe?

I think your tripping mate

Its been a few days and its definitly loose.
Rack n pinion? Lost teeth magically somehow.
Electric steering? Dead spot in the potentiometer.
How much slack is in the middle? Is there now more turns before the stop point or is it the same and now your turn radius is worse?

That's not a Crown Victoria

Rack n pinion 2006 mustang. I should have been more specific: its actually not exactly play in the center, its just more easy to turn the wheel, and there is less wheel turning response. I am at work at the moment but I don't think my turn radius is worse. I made a u turn today and it felt normal.

check your ball joints, suspension bushings, and tie rod ends.

this.
You've probably popped a tie rod end.
