First gen V70s are just 850s with slightly more rounded headlights and taillights. Second gen onwards is on a different, inferior platform.

Also stay away from the AWD variants (usually the V70 XC but there are also standard AWD V70s), they're garbage.

V70R or V50 T5 AWD depending on your budget. V50 T5s are hard to find in stick but an AWD one is worth the hunt

pretty much unbeatable pre-2000, the old slant-4 redblock engines used the same design since the 70's with only some displacement increases and will run absolutely forever, the later inline-5 whiteblock engines are a bit more difficult to work on but still pretty damn reliable

Non-AWD V70s and 850s are front wheel drive which is even better for the snow; AWD is something retards buy because they think it will magically make them less shitty drivers when weather hits.
