Theirs no fucking reason to throw your car in neutral when its moving at high speed especially on the highway. The only time i am technically in neutral is coming to a stop if i don't want to downshift through all the gears i will just clutch in until i stop and then put it in neutral while waiting for the light.

Even that is kind of a lazy thing to do and you it would be hard to react if anything happened while i was coasting to the stop. That is why i usually clutch in while breaking and put my car into 2nd because i am usually slowing down under 30km/h. That way if anything happened i could still clutch out quickly and move my car.

Keeping the engine in gear is necessary in case of an emergency, as braking is only one way to avoid an accident. There is another way to avoid a crash, and that involves moving out the way.

If you can't tell that being in gear helps you turn and brake you really haven't learned to drive.

Your engine wants to propel you in the direction that the wheels are turned. At the point of traction tire loss, which may happen if you have to evade something quickly, using your accelerator to balance the car and normalize understeer or oversteer is just as important as NOT USING YOUR BRAKES DURING THE ACTUAL EVASION. Use them BEFORE the turn to increase tire traction by decreasing your inertia (by slowing down).

It also helps a lot to have an LSD.

Notice how this driver keeps the car balanced in an oversteer condition to drift. This type of engine control helps to keep the car going where it should when you want to turn, brake, or (obviously) accelerate.

This is why all professional drivers stay in gear at all times by downshifting. If you don't want to wear your synchros at all you can double clutch downshift, or just use them for what they were designed to do but REVMATCH.

Pushing in the clutch accelerates the throw out bearing from a standstill to the spinning speed of the flywheel. Holding down the clutch pedal for long periods of time prematurely wears the throw out bearing because you're spinning it so fast for so long.

Being in neutral prevents this, but even better is to just stay in gear. Safer because you have full manueverability and you can also adjust engine braking by revmatching into a higher or lower gear.

Engine braking puts force through your transmission BACKWARDS and so wears the reverse side of all gears, not really affecting the overall life of the transmission because you should spend much more time accelerating than engine braking during driving.

Also the engine cuts fuel so wear on the engine is minor because there's no internal combustion, and therefore less heat. The engine really just uses vacuum to put a force down to the wheels.
