In some states you cant. I know it's illegal in Florida. But in most states it's legal, as long as you yield to green light traffic. Some intersections will have a sign that says NO RIGHT ON RED if the intersection is too dangerous. I didn't think it was illegal in other countries, it's a neat time saver

my turn
got into a chase in 1994 on a southwest Washington road, in a small town called woodland, about a half an hour outside portland.

it was about 4;30AM, and my chasee-s were cops. i had ducked into a mountain road, i knew an area where there were roads that obscured Communications between cops on CB radios, not to mention rough.

was in a 1991 supra i had bought about two months earlier used for about 15k, i had put nothing in it, it had the turbocharger, inline six power, and the car was actually pretty nice about going onto dirt roads.

i was sliding and going up these roads, cop following me pretty easy desu, at this point i knew there was a straightaway for about a half mile and then a sharp turn onto a road that lead into that pseudo logging trail i was talking about earlier.

foot to the floor, going about 96 at the end of the road, cop following behind me about 50 meters, did a wierd thing where i turned off all my lights, turned off the car, and used my momentum (braked to about 40) to get on that road.

the cop assumed i went onto a 50mph left curve instead of the driveway looking 20 mph right.

turned on the car, kept the lights off, and went off for about four miles before pulling off into a sight seeing point.

i learned that day that the mk3 supra can turn a 20mph turn into a 40mph turn.
