Hey /o/, maybe you can shed some light on my misfortune.
Earlier today, I was trying to scare my GF a bit by accelerating the car. I drive a 2002 Chevy Monte Carlo with the 3800 Series 2. Next thing I know, I try to accelerate again and the car revs up but doesn't go any faster. Additionally, I hear a really loud, persistent knocking coming from my engine bay. I fired her up later on in the evening and the knocking is definitely coming from the engine. What went wrong?

Pushing the accelerator pedal and the car not going any faster is within normal operating specs for that engine.

Check your pushrods.

fr the knocking, check your rockers and lifters. Fairly common issue.
As to not accelerating, it's suffering from the same problem that's plagued millions of W-body cars. A failing autotragic transmission.
Did you check your oil bud?
