My 2002 dodge durango won't start it will turn over but won't turn on it reads error code no bus in the odometer and the shop I have it at wants 950 for a new pcm and no promise of it even fixing it. Should I pay for it or take it somewhere else

That's kind of a lot of money. I'd get a second opinion. How's the battery and connections? Definitely getting fuel, spark, and compression?

If you can change a video card in a computer, you can change your PCM

Uhh you can buy a used PCM for way cheaper than that and swap it yourself easily.

You people are assuming it's the pcm. The pcm is what the mechanic says when he has no idea why it won't start and isn't a very good diagnostician
>>15633491
If it's the PCM, it will take about 5 minutes with a real scan tool to diagnose. did the mechanic tell you what error codes popped up when he checked the car?

If it says no bus in the dash a scan tool won't communicate either. Won't be able to pull codes. Also if they can't diagnose good enough to garuntee the pcm will fix it then they shouldn't be calling it. Chrysler networks are not rocket surgery
Did you have any other codes? Trip + key 3 or 4 times.
My Durango did the same thing but it ended up being the CPS wiring.
>$200 pcm from local salvage yard
>didn't solve anything
Lurk on GM forums? HPTuners just started supported Dodge/Chrysler and could probably scan and reprogram your PCM for $200

Cut off your dangly bits.

...Uh no, first off, whoever you took to is a fucking hack. They want to charge you almost a grand for a fucking guess they won't warranty. Have your car checked by someone who actually is a mechanic.

Check some salvage yards, tell them year, model (SLT, etc), and engine size 4.7, 5.9. They can probably get you pcm that will work. I bought one for my 2001, 4.7 for $65. Installed it myself in 10 minutes. Unhook negative battery cable, remove pcm (3-4 bolts) plug in connections and hook battery cable backup. I checked some forums, theres a lot of talk about the crank sensor on these models causing the same/similar problem.
