Boomer thread?
Boomer thread.

Why do they overprice everything?

This Chrysler 5th Ave is mint, but shouldn't cost more than 6k on a good day.
http://newyork.craigslist.org/lgi/cto/5728349704.html

Post stories about boomers, and craigslist ads for overpriced shit owned by boomers.
>>
Why do boomers.. love to type... using ellipsis...?
>>
>>15624089
I found a two tone white-gray Benz W126 560SE with 600,000 miles, every single body panel with dents in it, the grille smashed in in a number of places, the paint peeling and cracking off the car, along with tears and rips in the leather, and a missing trim piece for $6,500 in front of a wealthy-looking house once.

>"Meticulously owned! I take car of my cars!"
Yeah, fuckin' sure you do, pal. Hope you continue collecting those social security checks, because you're not gonna make a dime selling that piece of shit.
>>
>>15624124
They don't understand the concept of communicating via technology. They type as though they're actually speaking, complete with ... deliberate pauses
>>
>>15624089
>Car is only for sale to a museum... or Chrysler historical collection...
I don't understand, does he think a museum will contact him through craigslist?

And lol at a car from 1985 costing $17k. I mean, it's a nice car, but it's an emissions strangled shitbox that only appeals to people who like boxy boats.
>>
JESUS CHRIST CAN YOU PEOPLE STOP ASKING ME ABOUT THE PICKUP IN MY YARD ALL THE TIME, I'M NOT SELLING, THIS THING IS GOING TO GET RESTORED SOMEDAY

And when the dick finally drops dead it'll be a pile of rust.

>>15624130
Bunch of stupid fucking millenials in this thread...that car in the OP is a classic. Do you children not understand that those cars are NOT being made anymore? And more and more are dying. If the fellow in the ad is telling the truth about everything he said then that car is easily that price. Stupid kids on the internet dont know good shit even if it were to slap them in the face. Stick to your shitty Hondas lazy cunts.
>>
>>15624144
It wasn't even a boat anymore at that time. The '80s Chrysler luxury cars were barely bigger than European luxury cars.
>>
>>15624154

>Boomer detected

Hi Dad, nice to see you finally get comfortable with a computer
>>
>>15624161
> Implying using a computer is hard
You kids try to act so smug for the simplest shit. You guys complete the simplest of tasks and want a pat on the back and post on the facebook about your GLORIOUS feats, as if you accomplished something grand. Well back then we would work our asses off younger than anyone now a days and we'd never get a pat on the back, or seek some form of assurance or assurance, because we could actually get shit done that needed to be done
>>
>>15624172
The second assurance was supposed to be "attention" sorry. My point still stands
>>
>>15624172
Grandpa, Are you gonna tell us the story about the glory days before black men could legally marry white women?
>>
>>15624178
You mean negros?
>>
>>15624178
Who gives a shit about that. In the good old days i just remember everyone being goddamn more appreciative of what they got. And people actually working hard and knowing what they're worth. Now we just have pokemon go sheep that cant go more than an hour without some form social media. Its pathetic. Back then if we wanted to socialize we'd go outside. Me and my boys used to hang out at the local diner and always have a blast. Chit chatting and such. Now you can't do any of that, shame..
>>
>>15624172
You lazy fucks don't know anything about work. When I was 8 I was working in the steel mill, had to walk to work in the snow uphill both ways. I ate bread cut with sawdust.
When I was 16 I went off to fight Japs in the Pacific. I was storming Okinawa before your daddy had squirted you out of his nut sack.
You're lucky the greatest generation paved the way for you hippy shits.

>>
>>15624158
When I say people who love boxy boats, I'm including myself. I guess it's not as big as a 70 Impala but it's still a huge car to most people

The size isn't even the biggest issue. Cars from the 80s don't have the reliability of cars from 2000s+ or the simplicity of cars from the 60s and earlier, it's a shit tier era. Even then I'd drive the shit out of that car but not for anything near $17k

which means absolute shit. There's nothing special about it. it's just a Fifth Avenue with a rare option. Fifth Avenues are worth absolute shit, regardless of options. No one wants them. Just because it's older than dirt doesn't mean it's worth anything.
Example: I have a friend who bought a running 1966 Plymouth Valiant. For a dollar.

I like the Fifth Avenue. but it isn't worth shit.

Bah!
When I were a lad, it were 50 miles to schoo every day, uphill, in the snow, both ways. We barely had time to get home and eat our supper of gravel and get beaten by our father's belt before we had to turn around and go back again. We didn't have time for work; we were too poor to afford shoes, so we went barefoot. In the snow. If you were lucky, the ice stopped your feet from bleeding on the broken glass the school used for floors.

>i know what i got

I think it has to do with old people not being up to date with technology, in the past you could almost name your price if you had something rare and you knew someone wanted, because there was less choice (or seemingly so - without the internet and ease of access to the whole countries car sales)

being able to see every single car for sale while sitting at home has really created a true value for products, such as cars, while most logical people will look online and see what the current rate of X car is, old people dont use the internet and instead say what they think it's worth, and if you disagree they think they're old/wise enough to think it's just part of the bargaining process and so they just sit on their price without considering what you say because (old people know best and young punks cant tell them what to do)

No boomers watch mecum auto auctions and many many auto restoration reality tv shows that's plaster these insane car prices. There's also a classic classfields magazine called Haggerty that has been around for a while. It is because of technology (mostly in the form of cable tv) that boomers came up with these prices.
>>
>>15627203
Hagerty and shit like that is actually realistic, but boomers are retarded and don't realize that $100k 1969 Corvette has an L89 package and went through a $70k ground-up restoration to make it factory correct.

Mr. Boomer's 1969 Corvette with the Edelbrock crate engine and automatic transmission and rat piss interior is not worth $90k.

Also, the guy from OP's post hasn't emailed me back about trading his Chrysler for my Civic and PS2. That has to be the best offer he has gotten for it so far.

>>
>>15627343
And it brings him pleasure owning this car that he, if I understand correctly, never drives?
>>
>>15627359

Yeah...I guess. I'm sure the car is mechanically dead, Like i said it's sat in his garage since the 80s.

He's actually bought a lot of cars and never drove them. He had a mint condition 1968 cadillac in his garage that he drove home from the dealership, never drove, and just let it sit there and rot and became a home for skunks. Several other classic cars around his lot he bought new that rotted away.

His last fiero ever made though....that thing is fucking special, he keeps that in his garage, buried under a pile of christmas decorations, so it stays cherry.

I bought my KLR650 motorcycle from some yuppie Mormon boomer guy. It was a piece of shit, yet oddly well maintained. He wanted something lighter (a WR250r) for nastier off-roading. Whatever, old man.

Sold it to me for a song, like underbid everyone in town selling similar bikes by 20%. I didn't even try to lowball him. I have a motorcycle parking sticker that never expires for some main Mormon temple in Utah on the windscreen still, he thought it was a funny bonus.

Most boomers from the Yankee states can fucking die though, I agree.

I daily drive a classic and I constantly have boomers commenting on it; most of the time they struggle to identify the car, but it's generally positive. Though, the last guy pissed me off. I was putting groceries in the trunk and he pulls up behind me. Yelling from his truck, conversation ensues:

>Nice car. Is it for sale?
I'm not looking to sell it. It's my daily driver, but I'd entertain offers.
>So how much do you want for that $2,000.00 car?
I wouldn't let it go for less than $6,000.00
>Son...
*because they always, ALWAYS have to say that *
>Son, that car is worth $2,500.00 at most. I'd be doing you a favor at that price.

From there on, I ignored him. Pic related is my car; a 1966 Imperial Crown Sedan with the original TNT 440 and no real rust.

>I can sort of understand the asking price to cover the frame off restoration...

Not really how it works, putting resto money in a car doesn't up it's value well beyond what it's value already is.

If you pay 50k to restore a 10k car, the car is still only worth 10k.

That's why restoration is best left to enthusiasts who just want to do it, or professionals who can do it quicker and more cost effective.

I worked at a restoration shop for a long time, we all had classic cars, but we never restored our own. We just bought the cars already restored, and made the guy who restored it eat the 30k cost it took to restore it.
>>
>>15630602

>>15630614

>the most perfect flawless example sold by a celebrity that happened one time

>information I don't like
"YOU CANT TRUST EVERYTHING U READ ONLINE... ONCE GIT MUH IDENTITY STOLEN... COMPUTERS... IM A PIECE OF SHIT..."

Boomers take fucking everything out of context. You can't tell them shit without leading up to it with 30 warnings.

You could have an article that says "I wish I could get $100,000 for this" and they'll read it as "I got $100,000 for this", then spend 4 months remembering it the wrong way, and then you're fucked. You could even show them the original article and it would do no good, their memory has made it to be what they want, you are done.

This is cartoon character story shit
>>

Because I think alot of them are somwhat aware that they don't know shit about what they're talking about, so when you confront them with hard evidence to the contrary they default to anger to get what they want. If you've ever worked customer service then you'll have experienced this phenomena.

>WHAT DO YOU MEAN IT'S MY FAULT THAT I DIDN'T LISTEN TO OR FOLLOW EXPLICIT INSTRUCTIONS TO COMPLETELY NOT DESTROY THE PRODUCT I BOUGHT, LET ME TALK TO YOUR MANAGER THIS IS BULLSHIT I PAID HARD EARNED CASH FOR THIS, CASH, NOT NONE OF THAT CREDIT SHIT. >list of things to NEVER do
"It was written in the manual!"

>do NOT do x. I want you to repeat, "I will NOT do x"
3 months later
"On the phone I was talking to this guy about doing x so I did it!"

Bonus phrases:
>I was told
>its a common thing

Short of giant sticky notes you don't have a way out of this, E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G is up in the air when talking to old people because they'll "remember" it how they want. Even sticky notes won't work because after seeing it 50 times, they'll start to shit on it with emotion.

Keep in mind that HE approached ME and asked about buying my car that doesn't have a "For Sale" sign on it and offered me 41% of the value of the car. He's probably the type that would offer a dealership $18,789 for a new Mustang GT.

Yeah, the biggest pain in the ass people in any retail or customer service job i had were the boomers. They want you to do everything extra for them, want a discount on everything, and bitch up a storm at you when they screw the whole thing up.

I think their main problem is they're just really lame, unintelligent type people. They were never challanged in their lives. They all graduated high school with a c- average, because education didn't mean anything, then they all went to work for GM at age 18, and retired at 50 making $40 for being an unskilled idiot. The old saying is they were born on third base and think they hit a triple.

Plus most of them have some sort of disability scam too. Can't count how many handicapped plates i see park in handicapped spots, and some boomer gets out and strolls into the store with nothing wrong with them.

I don't want to be that guy, but you really can't make this call just on the 2 seconds you see someone as they walk into a store. My grandmother has had both hips replaced and had a handicap sticker. She looked just fine walking into the store because it was generally a short distance. Getting stuck parking in the back of a lot and trying to walk with her in 100 degree weather and you can see very quickly why she needs that front spot.
>>
>>15631922
This. my father is in his 60's and had one of his hips replaced. Even still, he walks with a slight limp although he no longer needs to walk with a cane anymore. The difference before and after was night and day. He can walk across the parking lot fine now, but he can't be on his feet for too long before back pain starts to set in.

Chevy made a 302 from 1967 to 1969 specifically for the Chevrolet Camaro Z28. The engine was created specifically for trans am racing, which has a 305 cubic inch displacement limit. The engine used a 327/350 block with a 283 crankshaft. The engine is known as the Chevrolet DZ302, and you can still order crate engines of it... for 10k.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5ZiUsz9MFo
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0P9AZ_fG9U
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJu2nEAtPeE

In 1970, the SCCA modified the rules for Trans Am racing. The race cars required a 305 cubic inch engine at most, but the production car could have a larger engine, provided the race cars in questions had a de-stroked version of the same engine. With that rul in place, from 1970-on, Chevy dropped the 302 from their line up and made the 350 standard on the Z28 since the 327 and 350 used the same block.

>>15635140
302 was 67-69 only. That was likely a cross-ram 350. They look identical.

i buy my cars to keep, im not interested in resale value

So when i see an old car that i like, i want it because i like it not because its price is going to inflate in 3 years or whatever. If i want to buy an older car i will pay good money for it if its in good condition

I think its reasonable to pay around $2000 for a 6 cylinder 70's/60's car for example, more if its in exceptional condition

I've noticed alot older people are hyper paranoid about the resale value of their vehicle. Like they buy a fucking depreciating asset to retain value, it just blows my mind.

>CAN'T BUY THAT CAR IT'LL BE WORTH LESS IN 5 YEARS GOTTA TRADE IN GOTTA HAVE NEW

My GF's mother will only buy german vehicles because muh resale value. She actually gave my girlfriend her 2001 5 Series when we were in college. This woman spent so much money taking it to the dealer for every fucking thing it would need, shit that could have been handled at some place far cheaper like buying tire. We got 1350 for it on trade in because like all BMW's it was an oil burning piece of shit with a million random issues once once it approached 100k. Meanwhile my Oldsmobile Alero with 115k on the clock that had a spotty as fuck service record but ran flawlessly got 3k.
