>On 5th August at Automobile Conference held in Chiba prefecture, Japan, newly-appointed Mazda MX-5 roadster chief development director and former ND Miata and CX-5 chief designer Masashi NAKAYAMA revealed the Japanese company is actually considering launching an official parts supply and full restoration service program for the first gen NA MX-5, hopefully from the latter half of 2017 after going through trial operation according to plan.

>"In my own home garage, a brand-new ND and my NA, that has always been with me for the past 26 years, sit next to each other in a peaceful manner. I want to promise you guys here that we will keep challenging and continue changing to stay true to the spirit of the original roadster, just like my senior managers who involved in the development projects of each new generation of the Miata always have."

too bad they can't simply produce more
i'd gladly buy a brand new NA

>>
>>15623958
probably close to a ND price
they could bring down the cost a bit if they used some modern electrical parts for irrelevant stuff like air conditioning

still, it's just wishful thinking
it's not possible even if they wanted to make them
>>
>>15624064

Seems like you have a poor understanding of mazda and cars for in general for that matter.
>>
>>15623615

would be cool if it was a restomod service and not just a restoration.

After driving it for the first time for a week, stock miata's are boring as fuck and embarrassingly slow.

Mazda continues to make underpowered cars because of people like you.
>>
>>15624095
Mazda is one of the last companies to focus their sportier cars to the young market instead of raising the price point and going for Luxury Sport for middle aged fuckers going through their mid-life crisis. Yes, that means their cars are on average underpowered just like the Toyobaru but that's still something for people to be able to buy young and enjoy.
>>
>>15624095
Detroit keeps knee-jerking about cars with high horsepower numbers that are terrible and unbalanced in every other way because of people like you.
>>

Even the MS cars weren't known to make astounding numbers.

>HERP DERP MUH DRIVING DYNAMICS

I fucking love Mazdas, but that doesn't excuse the fact that they've gone away from what made them so great. What they've done historically is create an excellent balance of power and handling, something that is missing almost entirely from their current lineup.

The Miata gets away with relatively low power because of its light weight, but apart from that all of their performance oriented cars (RX-7, RX-8, Mazdaspeed3, Mazdaspeed6, etc.) have had a decent amount of power on tap.

No enthusiast is buying a 155hp/2900lb Mazda3, no matter how divine the handling is.
>>
>>15624095
Is the RX7 supposed to prove a point or are you aware that you're an idiot?

Yeah, they have the Miata and the... ?
>>
>>15624127
Cars are getting vastly more expensive as time goes by, manufacturers are getting less and less new people interested in buying cheap sports cars, and safety is slowly increasing weight pretty much no matter what people do. It's amazing that Mazda still has a Miata capable of doing what it does.
>>
>>15624126
You realize that the FD made about 100 more horsepower than anything Mazda currently offers, with the exception of the 2+ ton CX-9, right?

That will probably greatly depend on the car's state. If we are talking about a commiefornia miata it could be just a cheap refresh but if it's one from Colorado the rust would make it a heavy work.
>>

Stop being obnoxious. Admit you're in the wrong. So many people against you here mate.

They should call them NA 1.5's, then add modifications to resolve the issues the production version had rather than just restoring them to production standard.

The one with the airbag.
Besides the fact that it feels really thin and unsubstantial, it's so big that I can't heel toe with it.
I'd get an aftermarket one, but I like my face in one piece. Ones with airbags are like $300 too.
I'm 6'3", so it's more my fault but still

NSX was a failure, but we'll see how the new Supra is.
(Newpra?)
>>
>>15624852
>I like my face in one piece
I had one deploy in my face when I slid into a muddy embankment at like 5mph. It fucked my shit up. The plastic channels that tear down the middle are really sharp and slashed both of my wrists (I was holding the wheel at 9 and 3), and the bag itself bruised my face and gave me a bloody nose. After that experience, and after reading about a number of unintended airbag deployments, I feel a lot safer without it.

Early airbags were just a check mark in the spec sheet though, they weren't actually designed to be part of the car. I think it was pretty telling of the efficacy of early airbags that when I reported to my insurance company that I no longer had an SRS, my premium only increased by $0.18 per month.
>>
>>15624127
Good to an autocross sometime and realize mazda 3's are as common as miatas. They are the compromise car. 1) practical 2) economical 3)well balanced 4)fun (or as fun as a 4door sedan with a 2liter can be)
>>
>>15625098
If you crash into something at 30 mph, would you rather have slashed wrists and a bruised face, or be dead/paralyzed?

>>
>>15625149
If you're driving down the street at 30 MPH, would you rather get to where you're going or have your airbag deploy for no reason, slash your wrists, crush your noise, crash into oncoming traffic while you're stunned, and then be dead or paralyzed?

The fact that my insurance only increased by $0.18/month is the most damning evidence against early airbags. The net difference in cost my insurance company expects to see over the next ten years, weighted for odds of an actual life-threatening crash involving extremely expensive emergency care, is $21. Once again, that's $21 to balance out ten years of driving without an airbag. If they're so monumentally unimpressed by the effectiveness of that airbag, why do you trust it to save your life?

It's already been shown that airbags are statistically one of the safest things in cars, beside seat belts, but fuck off and just go win your darwin award we don't need more knuckle dragging brain dead retards in our genetic pool

Nice thought.

Wouldn't happen due to safety more than anything. An NA won't make a 5 star ANCAP rating (I'm an Aussie, I know the names change in order countries bit the idea is the same).

They could engineer it to be safer but it wouldn't be an NA anymore.

I don't know if there could be a work around if they were selling NOS, but for a brand new vehicle, wouldn't happen.

Lovely thought though.
>>
>>15625498
Damn, I wish my Mazda 3 could get a turbo'ed 2.5 liter with somewhat stiffer suspensions, around 230hp would be more than enough for some reasonable hooning.

Guys at Mazda should just give us a sportier trim goddammit, I don't care about the MS tag. Even Honda has more sports cars in their lineup nowadays.

If we were talking about a modern car that's been engineered from the ground up to turn into a gigantic pillow when it gets in an accident, I'd agree with you. But instead, we're talking about a car that wasn't intended to have them at all, and had a single airbag bolted on at the last moment to comply with new US safety laws requiring it.
