Cycle World is going to be doing a story on the '13 Indian Cannonball run, they'll be up at the shop to do interviews and taking pictures or something. So keep an eye out for that.

He's like 6'1 so shouldn't really be an issue. He just wants to do some touring riding, some friends of his just went to Alaska and back and he used to ride so when he saw me get my bike he got a little jealous.
>>
>>15614928
Why do riders get so uptight when I don't see them when I'm on my commute? Just yesterday some twat was in my blind spot and completely overreacted when I moved over a lane, when we got to a light he was staring me down with his visor down so I rolled my window down and asked if he had a fucking problem, then he immediately turns his head straight and stops looking at me.

That's the other thing I don't get, what's up with the pretend tough guy act some of you put on? Does having a motorcycle make you think you're a badass?

Delightful, it burbles like a V twin at the low end and clatters like a parallel towards the high. It's very linear but that's exactly what you want off road. It's never going to be the most thrilling engine but it works great up to about 90mph. Going beyond that is just a steady, uneventful climb to 137.

On a scale of "douchecati" to "80's kawasaki 2-stroke," how reliable is the thing? If i'm buying and adventure bike, ideally i dont want it breaking down all the time
>>
>>15615193
>How does it feel offroad?
It's pretty planted. I've only tackled gravel paths but I've never felt like it's going to do anything silly. The traction control is excellent but very conservative on the highest setting (which it engages by default every time you start but is easy to drop down or disengage from the left index finger switch)

>And does it feel like it's for tall people only or can average, or even short people ride?
It helps to be tall but I can flat foot the standard saddle on the highest setting and I'm 180cm tall. I prefer riding around with the saddle on the higher and sliding forwards to get my feet down at a stop because it's more comfy. There's a low saddle available too.

The saddle's exactly the same height as a GS but it feels less tall because it's thinner towards the front. Also, compared to the GS, you don't feel as enclosed or isolated from the road (in a good way).

I've never had a problem starting or riding it in 6k miles. My only foibles have been the OEM heated grips (just get Oxfords, they're a third the price) and a sticky dashboard switch which Honda replaced instantly. It's a Japanese built, low compression, slightly detuned Honda parallel twin, expect the sun to burn out before serious issues arise.
>>
Do any of you use noise-cancelling earphones when you ride? My helmet is fucking loud and the wind noise is almost painful.
>>
>>15615238
When I rode a sports tourer, I wore Shure SE215's with triple flange tips. You don't need active noise cancelling with those things bored half way to your brain and there's none of the distortion noise cancelling generates.

Nice, better than the 35mpg I get on my strom. Looking at buying one for my commute.
>>
>>15615188
did you occupy?
>>
>>15615267
It's a great commuter, it somehow flicks even better through traffic than the V-strom I tested (probably because the CoG is very low). The only advice I can give is to test ride it along with an R1200GS and a Tiger if you're in a market where they're competitively priced. My friend rides a GS Adventure and, while he admitted mine was the better offroader said he preferred his GS. The biggest difference between the Honda and the BMW is the suspension, the BMW is much smoother but more isolated, which freaks me out. It also felt heavier to me despite being lighter on paper.

The SE215s are a solid choice man. My concern with isolation though is not being able to hear what I actually need to hear, whereas noise-cancelling would presumably block out just the constant windnoise + engine + vibration.

>>

I never had a problem with that. Because they're so isolating, you can have the music down lower. If anything, sound isolating will block important noises more (you could still hear the wind faintly and detect when a car was pulling into your blind spot from the change in tone and the slight suction on your back).
>>
>>15615313
>240ks
Wheew. Might be time to have a look at the fuel system. I assume you've been keeping the valves adjusted?
>>
>>15615335
Yeah I have a full hotcams shim set for it and it have only needed to use a few.

I am a bit suspect on the fuel pump, seems down on power a little when in the high revs and occasionally gives a buck when accelerating at WOT. I just haven't been bothered to remove the tank and to a flow test on it. Although a shitty fuel pump should give higher MPG due to it running under capacity. but IDK.

I also have a cheeky arbus with an alarm on the back just in case they dont notice. All in all it could still get lifted in the back of a truck but at least maybe someone would notice with all the noise from the chains and alarm.

Anyone know why my gixxer shifts so loudly? It doesn't matter the gear, 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd, 3rd to 4th, etc... each shift is a loud ass click.

I don't think it has anything to do with my shifting technique either because I'll just coast with the clutch pulled in entirely and the gears still make a loud ass click.

The shifting is smooth btw, it's just loud

You will want to replace the springs. The stick ones are only like 0.48kg/mm. Or put 15or20 weight oil in them.
>>
What are some things to replace on a newly purchased used bike? Everything "appears" to be in good working order but there are still some things I would like to swap out.

Right now, I am considering new chain/sprockets, probably a new master cylinder brake reservoir since mine seems stained with some weird shit, and some new brake lines. Anything else? Load up bikebandit and hit me with your best shot, kid
>>
There's a striple that's almost exactly what I want, with flyscreen/belly pan/other accessories but it's a week old dehydrated piss yellow. There's other bikes similarly priced, but if Id have to buy the accessories separate so they end up more expensive overall

Would the color dissuade you from buying a bike dbt?

Yes. Some people might say you don't see the bike once you sit on it, but if I'm gonna spend money and time caring for a chunk of metal it better be a pretty chunk of metal.

Alright bike thread I'm tired of dealing with shit and I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on one of two bikes: here's the tldr:

I decided I wanted to get into riding, currently I drive cars as my hobby and have a few and have been requested to buy a bike before I buy another car because fucking shit money send help I have a problem.

I've been offered two bikes at better prices than I'm seeing pretty much everywhere, a Honda CB300F for 3 grand, or a Yamaha FZ-07 for 6 (out the door). So here's my question: how good of a deal is a 2016 FZ07 for 6k, and is it worth possibly having to find a cheap dirt bike on while it sits somewhere? Or should I bite on the Honda since apparently it's a great beginner bike and I supposedly will be able to sell it once I'm done with it.

To reiterate I've ridden a dirt bike like once and haven't ever even rode pillion on a street bike (no endorsement, no riding experience, etc).

If it matters, insurance on the FZ is 700 a year while insurance on the CB300F is like 4.

What do.

>>
>>15616361
bruh, both those prices are fucking awful. not to mention they are both piece of shit bikes so forget both of them

here are your options realistically speaking. you need to pick one

1.) start out on a ninja250 to learn the ropes of motorcycle riding and general maintenance. don't get sucked into this 300cc/321cc/390cc meme, it's all dogshit that you're going to sell in 2-3 months. ninjas are cheap, retain their value, and have more than enough power for beginners. buy a ninja500 if it makes you feel better.

2.) the other option is to start out on a higher displacement bike. it's riskier since you can get yourself in trouble easier but if you know you aren't a retard and have a degree of physical aptitude when it comes to operating machines, you might be ok. this is the most economical option since you're going to end up here anyways but the reality is that it isn't very smart to do this. a lot of the mistakes I made on my ninja250 would have realllly fucked my day up on a 600cc

Whatever you do, do not fucking buy a new bike. You have no idea what you want yet and you're going to end up wasting a shit ton of money. And for the love of god do not buy an R3.
>>
>>15616384
>1408053201795
I do live in a shithole where the lowest I've seen an FZ07 for is around 8k (taxes, destination, etc included).

The only used bikes in this area are dirtbikes and I guess I could just find one that's been converted.
>>
>>15616448
converted dirt bikes make terrible road bikes. They require constant maintenance and are uncomfortable as well as being unsuited for cruising at 60+mph

No, I house 2 poor families. They pay for the mortgage with the rent on the houses they live in. I just need to pay rates and a few repairs every year.

Dumb poor people are the best.
But at the same time I am poor too as I don't really have much liquid assets.

It's pretty easy to google the population of USA and figure out 15% of it. Did you happen to have an American public education by any chancer?

Just buy properties from old people. I bought a apartment complex from tired and dying old people back in 2012. It was nice and had people already living there. Now im looking for lots in cool places to try and build houses.
