A good friend of mine decided to test drive a car, and now he went off the deep end and wants to buy it...
>Volkswagen Phaeton
>235,000 Miles
I remember the pain and misery that only can be known to owners of 1.8t Jettas. Will this thing be even worse to maintain?

Those things are really fucking cheap for a reason: they're absolute maintenance monsters.
Don't think VW-tier. Don't think Audi-tier.
Think more like Bentley-tier. Ultra high-end luxury car costs, because well, it basically is a Bentley.
Does it come with a warranty? Don't dealerships usually push that stuff along with the fancy wax and rustproofing?

Basically a Bentley-level cost with a People-carrier looks. You gotta be mad or a VW fanatic.

This is why you dont buy Phaeton's
>>15614871
Its one of many cars one should never ever buy, but which I cannot help myself not to want so mad.

Phaetons are really good cars. No surprise someone fell in love with them. But yeah, maintenance can be a pain.

This is why you don't buy VWs in general. Or any VAG products for that matter, except Porsches.

Same reason we dont buy american cars in Europe. No problem owning any VAG product over here.

This thread depresses me as an American.
I have always really liked the Phaeton. It's the ultimate sleeper. Love the subdued looks of a People's car wrapped around a Bentley chassis. IMO $5k for a Bentley chassis in OK condition seems fair.
But then there's the issue of parts.... Damn familia.

THERE'S NOTHING MORE EXPENSIVE THAN A CHEAP GERMAN LUXURY CAR

At least that engine's not stressed to within an inch of its life, so it'll probably be the least unreliable part of the car.
Also the car OP linked has the 4.2l V8.
>>15615871
even worse
they sound good straight piped though.
>>15615880
Oh yeah, if there's one thing VAG did right with the 4.2l V8 it's the sound.
Basically an Audi A8 with a steel frame and a VW badge.
Mileage is impressive, but there can't be much left in that poor car.
Fastest depreciating car ever made... because it's so good buy it now OP!

You actually think there's someone out there stupid enough to cover maintenance costs on a Phaeton with TWO HUNDRED THIRTY FIVE FUCKING THOUSAND MILES?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
>>15614871
If it made it 235k miles then why not more? Maybe this is a reliable one
