Can anybody give me one reason that this is not the most dependable, most practical vehicle on the road?

1998-2011 Ford Crown Victoria.
2003-2011 Mercury Grand Marquis
2003-2011 Lincoln Town Car

>Tens of Millions sold
>Billions of miles collectively
>300,000 mile odometer not uncommon
>Parts so readily available, you could rebuild the WHOLE thing in a vatozone parking lot
>Your local pick-and-pull has at least a quarter-acre already full of these to pick from
>highest rated safety for full-sized sedans
>tested and proven so thoroughly that many companies/agencies refuse to give them up long after production has ceased
>minimum 20cu. Ft. trunk space
>fucking V8 fucking luminum heds fucking 230+ net HP fucking
>fucking body on frame, fucking REAL WHEEL DRIVE

Worst of all, these cars have been tested for DECADES in the world's hardest proving grounds.

>never change oil
>factory air filter
>factory spark plugs
>running on two compact spare tires
>peeling out from every stop, driving 60 in a 35 and slamming the brakes at the last second to every stop, then repeating, making turns as seen on COPS, basically driving like a nigger

they really are that good, huh? I guess I should get one then.
>>
I can give a couple reasons. Not all people appreciate or need the bulk that the Panthers chassis has. The fuel economy isn't the greatest, especially when doing a lot of city driving. Not shitting on them, just being honest.
>>
The Crown Vic, and by extension most of the Panther platform, is the modern day Model T. Put it through your roughest, poorest, most ghetto tests and it doesn't disappoint.

Here are some keywords I find for GM ESPECIALLY CADILLAC, Nissan, Honda, Lexus/Toyota, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen and other inferior Ford powertrains when searching craigslist for vehicles under $3000 with clean title:

>head gasket
>knocking
>tapping
>radiator leak
>won't shift
>misfire

I have yet to find these related to this platform for these years...

On the other hand, try to find a Cadillac, Camaro, or other gaudy shitty GM show boat for less than $5000. No, really, I found a third-gen Camaro parked under a tree for a decade listed for about $4,000...

GM fanaticism is a mental disorder. The only people that can like a Cadillac have never had to work on them.
>>
Here's a reason:
It looks like old person ass. Just not pleasant to look at. Doesn't get more charming with the faded clear and trim that most of the ones on the road today are adorned with.

I drive an '07 town car (pic related) and I can't get enough of it.

Inherent problems with ALL 2003+ town cars:

>Leaking passenger a-pillar seam (easily sealed)
>Leaking HVAC inlet duct (easily sealed)
>Failed Climate Control door servos (Driver Temp Mix, Passenger Temp Mix, Floor/Head/Windshield Mix, Recirc Door) which is actually a bitch to replace and ALL FOUR factory original units FAIL!
>Plastic one-piece intake manifold/coolant crossover tube cracks and leaks coolant. Fixed in about '04 or '05

That's all of the known issues with these cars and mine had all except the manifold because it's an '07.

The ONLY thing I dislike is the drive-by-wire because it is set to be very smooth and not jarring, as it's a luxury car. I want to change the setting so that it's a 1:1 response. Yes throttle cables can make for jarring throttle changes but HEY, I like the snappy feel.

I get 15 in the city and 26 on the highway consistently. Average about 17.8 on my readout and most of my driving is city.

With the right tires, the ride is a treat. It's not as good as the '77 parked next to it, as in the '77 you can plow over any speed bump and feel like a road seam, however it maintains control MUCH better than the '77. No plow, ZERO BODY ROLL, and I've yet to squeak the tire when doing a u-turn. I'm glad to trade the floatiness for rock-solid feedback and control.

When I was shopping for this car, I found many with over 330k miles and the guys that had them (fleet auctions) talked like it was completely normal and still had another 200k miles to go at LEAST.

Most of what you have said about the engine and drive train could also be said about the mustang or f-series as well The Panthers had nothing special in them engine, transmission, or rear end. Ford shared all of it with the Stangs and trucks at some point. The Trucks may of had a different tranny though if I remember right
>>
>>15608931
The 2 valve 4.6L is the only one with this record of reliability. Mustangs and trucks got 3v or even 4v I think. These were PLAGUED with issues.

If it's a 4.6L 2v Modular, great.

There really aren't many down sides to the Crown Vic, except for maybe fuel economy or it being difficult to park in small areas, those in 99% of America those aren't really big problems. I'd rather take the Lincoln in LWB form than a Crown Vic though, then keep tuning the engine till it explodes.

>>15608894
It's not hard to lift them and they're probably one of the few sedans that's actually capable of sustained off road use except for a few Subaru and Volvo models. They're riding on a derivative of a truck frame. There's a reason why they were so popular with police forces and why they're still in widespread use 5 years after they left production.

Here's my panther, albeit it has Mercury badging, it's still a crown vic at heart. Although mine doesn't fit the years specified, it's still a contender. Unfortunately with these older ones, the throttle valve (TV) plastic connector becomes brittle and warped from age, heat, and wear, that if you don't replace them when they break your tranny gets fucked. An expensive lesson learned :/ but I still love mine.

I really like these cars; my neighbor had a crown vic like the one shown in OP's photo. She had it since brand new from the factory, but got rid of it earlier this summer for a newer Grand Merq.

All around a fantastic car, would be perfect if I could get MPGs in the 30s/40s :D

Damn that is beautiful. Always loved this generation, except for the Lincolns. They had way too radical styling to pull off with that high windshield. It's ok, though, they were fully redeemed with the second-generation Town Cars that shared NO outter appearance with any other car in the Ford stable.

I'd trade the higher economy so long as I don't get caught dead in this fucking R/C shoe.
>>

Thank you for the comment. My mom used to have a Lincoln from this generation (I think an 88) and I absolutely loved it as a little kid. I remember playing in it, and having so much fun. That's what primarily drove me to pick this car up (and other reasons).

I agree with your statement about the appearance. For the Lincolns being a part of the Ford/Mercury line up, I wish there was some more distinction for that generation.

You have to LOOK at the vehicle, inspect it yourself. Sometimes you will get a real gem. I wouldn't buy from an owner, though, only from a dealer or the agency. They will have used Motorcraft oil filters and plugs, and those are all you want with these cars, trust me, only Motorcraft.

Nigs will nig the shit out. There should be a study on the effect of niggers on automobiles.

HELL FUCKING YES DUDE! YOU CAN WALK OUT WITH A FUCKING AWESOME RIDE FOR $3,000 BEFORE TTL!!!!

Dude, go look. Look for one that doesn't have all of the fucking accessories ripped out leaving holes and clipped wires. There are plenty of vehicles that were only used for custodial/shuttle service.

When I was arrested in LaPorte, Tx, I got a long, LONG ride in the back of a VERY nice all-black Crown Vic back to Dallas. I would buy that car, it was nice. No cage, no accessories.

thats because niggers will drive a car until it literally, LITERALLY will not get them where they need to get. usually the 7-Eleven.

Nothing will get a nigger to do ANY maintenance until it doesn't get them there. Doesnt matter how much it struggles to get there, as long as they get there before Pizza Patron stops giving away pizzas that are usually $5.

I lived in the real gangbanging fucking hood and the ONLY time i EVER heard the word "oil change" was AFTER the car blew up.

>hear serious rod knock
>"moopty change da oil mugfuggin"

Yeah, that'll do it.

If everybody had one of these $2,000 cars laying around for use as a mule/backup, they'd come to appreciate them as much as I do.

My father-in-law and brothers-in-law are absolutely anti-ford.

At one point, they had a broken down BMW, VW, Dodge Town & Country, Chevy Camaro, 'nother Camaro, Suburban, 'nother later gen. Suburban, GMC work truck and NONE of them were working properly. Of those vehicles, only two were on the road!!! And those had issues! (funny, they were the EXACT issues I warned them about when they bought the vehicles, but like Harley fans, you can't tell them nothing)

I always enjoyed driving my '77 Lincoln by, staying the night, then starting it up before it even turned over one full turn in the cold mornings while they were struggling to get the oldest, rattiest, longest-sitting Camaro road-worthy. It's been three years and that Camaro still sits...

If only they had taken the spare car I offered them...

Minimm 300,000, maximum? Only the gods may know...

Just be sure it has always been serviced with Motorcraft plugs and oil filters. Those matter. Ask them if the plugs have been changed, then ask how often the oil is changed, and then ask what kind they use. Don't mention Motorcraft, let them fucking lie to you so you can drop the mic and walk away.

They love long distance.

Either buy 1-2 owner, or if you want a surplus, make sure it was never privately owned.
>>
>>15619129
The suspensions on pursuit vehicles are tight enough to shimmy your jimmies off. You can just replace the springs in the back if they're too bad. Would take an hour for you to do it yourself.

Put this car to the ultimate test- driving while female for my whole life. I can change the oil, but I like low-maintenance vehicles due to my ailment.

Pic is my panther, 1990 LTD Crown Victoria. Smoothest ride ever, cheap as dirt and absolutely nothing wrong with it. A little less reliable than something newer, but I couldn't pass it up.

Drove around a 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis for years before this and it loved me more than any man ever could. It was my first car, I got it when I was 16, treated it like total shit, and it's still basically perfect. Regular oil changes and it just fucking drove everywhere I took it. I highly recommend them.

I guess they're not the absolute sexiest, tightest little thing that everyone's hot for, but you can put a lot of shit in the trunk for fun weekends out shooting/camping/whatever, automatic transmission and bench seats facilitate easy road-head, and it's fun to fuck in the back of it. :)

I just love these things. If you're thinking about it, just fucking do it.

I kind of want to get a Crown Vic or cvpi. Cheap, big, tough and a nice highway ride which is pretty much what I need in a car. But the fucking image is tough to swallow. Every guy my age I see driving these is a pale, scrawny faggot or autist. These cars are like trains, something about them attracts the worst crowd.
>>
>>15628351
Then don't buy a PI...

They have horribly rough suspension anyway.

Get a civic duty/utility car. They're not made for jumping curbs, just for letting the judge get around to his duties or to shuttle inmate transfers across jurisdictions.

Just look for a solid-color body and NO hole for the spotlight in the A-pillar, so you won't look like a sovereign citizen, nor treated like one.

This. I wanted to get a CVPI at first due to the tougher suspension and tranny, external oil cooler, bigger alternator, etc etc, until I realized I was missing the entire point of a cozy land barge to cruise around in.

IMO Grand Marquis look way better, too, especially the model years with the boxier headlights that come right up to the grille without a body color piece of trim in between- still big and boxy, but in a nice way and different enough from the "I AM AN AUTIST" flag a Crown Vic gives off.

Stop worrying what bus riders and civic drivers think of what you drive. You're buying a sub $4000 car, expect to be placed in that demographic. If you're a normal guy and have a decent looking cvpi, people love asking what a cop car is like.

>>15628656
Spotlights are cool and have never had anyone hate on them in real life. Ride is just fine, can always change the suspension if needed.

>>15628743
Buying one model because you're worried about looking like an autist sounds pretty autistic to me. Nothing wrong with Grand Marquis but I feel like cvpi is the perfect teenager to 20 something car because it's a completely care free car. Not even any carpet to take care of. The ultimate panther imo is an undercover car. Some even have full interiors. You'd get the mostly clean look of a regular crown Vic with all the police grade hardware underneath.

Here you go. $600 plus $20 to rent a tow dolly.

Replace fuel pump or fuel filter, enjoy it for the rest of your sorry days.

No oil pressure is likely false reading. You can remove oil fill cap and ask him to start the car. If you see liquid oil start to splash around after 20 seconds inside the filler hole, you are getting oil.

>Surplus Crown Vic

I don't know why people think this is a good idea.
I drive fleet vehicles with flashy lights and sirens on them all day long, and we do a pretty good job of turning them into heaps of scrap - bending wheels and suspension by flying over curbs, killing engines by never topping off fluids and never sending them in for PM because if we take it out of service for the day we'll be short a sector car, down to downright stupid shit like drawing cocks inside the visors when somebody leaves their car unlocked.

I think the average lifespan of a vehicle in our fleet is about seven years, before somebody totals it, the engine or transmission shit themselves, or the city garage finally drags it in for PM and realizes everything is broken and it'd be easier to just condemn the thing.

Buy one from a little old lady or something. Crown Vics and Lincoln Towncars were grandma cars too, and Grandma probably treated hers a lot better than we do.
