spark plugs are harder to do since the heads are on the left and right side oil changes on the older ones are still a pain. newer subarus have the filters on top. but the boxer engines have everything on top which is easily accessable. so i think its about easier if you have a newer on or a little harder with the older ones. pic related.

In a couple months I'll be trading in my F150 toward an older (early 00's to ~'06) Subaru Forester, in manual. Engine doesn't really matter to me.

What can you warn/recommend when it comes to looking at these? Is mileage a huge concern? I read somewhere that at 100k miles, you are to replace the timing belt.

I might be about to get a 2000-2004 WRX and I don't own a vape yet how fucked am I? But srsly, how bad are these cars? In terms of performance and comfort they're everything I need with two extra wheels getting power, but reliability and any details about them are a bit of a grey area.

Yes they are, they just tend to have headgasket issues around 120,000 mile intervals due to oil and coolant laying on the bottom part of the engine head gasket at all time. They also use a bit of oil which is completely normal for a boxer engine. I purchased a 2016 brz this past FEB and it was the best car i have ever driven. i recently turbo charged it and god damn it puts a smile on my face and an erection in my pants every time i turn that key. So yes, get the frs/brz/gt86 its well worth it.

all weather mats are standard in all subaru models the sti lip kit looks good on them. id recommend the sti exhaust or SPT we sell performance parts by SPT you can get it ordered with that exhaust alonfg with battery tie downs and oil cap. you can also get SIT short throw shifter and pedal set. nothing i know has been a bad accessory they are all good.

I searched around looking for a kit with an unequal length exhaust manifold and this company sold one with the kit (for that boxer rumble). They also used precision turbo which was pretty good in my books. I'v kinda went off spec's and out of the bunch this kit was cheaper and seemed to be well put together. I made 270 WHP but it could have been more, i told them to run boost off the waste gate that had a 7-8 psi spring rather than a boost controller that i also brought just not to push the engine to its limits where it would start to over heat since the radiators a bit small. I'm going back once i upgrade a couple more things to look at 330 whp mark, and then i think i'll do an engine tear down for pistons and rods to lower the compression ratio since its so damn high down to something reasonable for more boost.

Hey, how do you permanently disable the goddamned start stop system on a '16 Liberty/Legacy 2.5i?
All I can find online is to install the wiring for a trailer hitch then bridge the sensor that shows you are towing something. Problem is that the kit costs AU$3000 here.

I'm on my 2nd SF5 Forester and they're great cars, mine has 170k miles and I'm confident it will make it to 250-300 easily.

Just make sure they have maintenance records for timely oil, coolant flushes with OEM coolant and importantly coolant conditioner

Make sure the water pump and timing belt and assorted pulleys have been replaced on schedule.

Since OP the retard wasn't able to answer the question further down in the thread let me go into the head gasket issue

It happens because of the shitty gaskets Subaru used for years and years, that's why it doesn't happen in Porsches, etc.

They tend to go anywhere from 50-150k miles, just make sure they've been replaced (with fel-pro or six star gaskets, not OEM gaskets!!!). If they haven't, it's a $1000 service at an Indie shop, easy enough to do yourself though

The bitch of working on boxers is that they have to be pulled for damn near everything, there's no easy access to shit in the bay

So about last week my CEL light came on p0171 system too lean. I ignored it, and fast-forward to two nights ago on my street home it completely stalled, however I just coasted and parked didn’t try to turn it on that night. The next day it started but was unable to hold idle and would stall. If I tried to rev the engine it would suck in a bunch of air and ultimately stall. Well I looked it up and everything led to the MAF sensor, so I unplugged it and it was able to idle but the battery light was on. Anyways I replaced the MAF sensor and the CEL light is now gone but I am still having the same problems, except now with the MAF unplugged it will still stall in the end, I am just able to rev it freely. Any Ideas? I am stumped. I am thinking maybe a clogged cat but I am not sure. It is a mazda rx8 if that makes any difference.

check around your valvecovers for any leaks. The other things to check would be the front crank oil seal and the rear main seal where your TC/flywheel is. All common areas of oil leaks on subaru's.

I traded in a 2013 altima and really got used to its cvt. I drive through mountains a lot and the cvt is perfect for that. I test drove the manual wrx and didn't like the clutch and long shift throws. Didn't look forward to that shit in traffic every morning. I used to deliver pizza in a big city in a stick and i still have nightmares about.

Does the BRZ have bad visibility?

I was looking at the Fiesta ST and Camaro, both had poor visibility. Heard the 370Z does too.

Is a weird metallic jingling sound from the CVT during acceleration normal? I ran over a deer carcass on the interstate a few months after I got my 2015 forester and never had it checked out because nothing appeared to be damaged. But I started noticing that sound a short while afterward, though I've never been sure if it was present before.

I've never had issues with it, except for very infrequent moments where acceleration from a stop is sluggish for a couple seconds (usually when driving up a slight incline).

If you've only been driving older cars, the A-pillars on any modern car will seem too large thanks to airbags and strict rollover crash standards. But aside from that and the standard coupe issues with a large B/C-pillar, visibility is good. Especially with the low hood.
