The fourth meet was actually quite successful, we had a few bumps along the way but by the end of it all it was went pretty good. Now in the last few days, there has been a sudden surge of aggressive behavior. It's like a few have forgotten what /hou/ is all about, you have forgotten that we treat each other like family, that we don't just attack on other members for absolutely no reason. Since we started this there has never been a thread like that before and I hope we don't come to that. A lot of you have been complaining that some people forgot the route or got lost or split away. You know, these things happen but the least we can do is understand the reasons behind them. Another thing I've been noticing is an attitude problem, some of you think "My way is best way", not bothering to listen what other people have to say. Y'all need to remember one thing that is there in every OP, /hou/ strong, /hou/ family.

Listen, you all were acting like children in the last thread. Quite frankly, it is embarrassing to me, and I suspect to the entire crew. I was not at the meet for reasons that I have only disclosed with SC, but its no secret I think this group needs clear direction and leadership if it wishes to move forward.

I propose then the next monthly meet to not be a driving meet but instead to be primarily a meet to elect a hierarchical leadership.

I propose that the hierarchy looks something like this:

President
|
V
Vice President
|
V
Route Planner/Navigator

(Additionally, if it is deemed necessary in the future there should be a Treasurer role that sits at the same privilege level as the route planner/navigator. However, I currently see no reason for this role to exist but we should keep an open mind.)

I propose that election rules carried out in this manner:
1. To be eligible for a position, one must be nominated by another known member of /hou/. In other words, you can not nominate yourself for a position.
2. If nominated the candidates may vote for any nominee included themselves.
3. All members in /hou/ carry the same voting power: one vote per person per position.
4. The vote must be made at the meet in person, and the meet to be held at a previous meet spot generally accepted by the crew.
5. A candidate may not be elected to multiple positions at a time.

Please give thoughts on this. I feel that this is the most important issue facing hou/night.wave currently.
>>

NIGHT WAVE Cover 2.png

I just finished making the song for Night Wave : https://soundcloud.com/strivik/night-wave-strivik

Also made a music video with whatever decent footage I could get. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wy07-jZBdOU

Now as I mentioned in the OP about the previous thread, I also want to add that the complaining that some people are doing is absolutely unnecessary. Many people are putting their time and effort into /hou/. The decisions that have been taken place in every meet has been a collective effort, mostly done by a few individuals however any input that people give is taken into account seriously, there have so many ideas floating around, the fact that everyone is saying something to make /hou/ better is everything someone can ask for in a club. However, when people decide that instead of contributing they will just complain is actually being counter productive. It ruins the mood for many, it causes unnecessary friction between people. Whoever it is needs to know a few things, if you have an idea then post it, let the people decide how it goes, if no plan has been placed don't complain about the plan that was placed out of the blue, either you help or don't complain. This was the case in a few meets but especially the recent one, since there were only a few days left and nobody decided where to drive. So then a plan was created and that was the ONLY plan available to us at that time, so we went with it. Then I hear talk about "Who's bright idea was to come here", well that was the plan we had, if you have a better one then post it and see what everyone else says. I don't want to go on a 6am rant but some of you need to remember how peaceful it was in the previous meets, how everyone enjoyed their time without any complaining. That's what I want for /hou/, we can't grow that much if there is people start to dislike each other. /hou/ is a family, it will always be, it's just up to you if you want to be a part of it.

I agree with the majority of your post, but I'll offer some suggestions to help refine the idea.

1. No top-down hierarchy, since this structure is conducive to power struggle, inequality, and may cause further hostility. I suggest in its place something akin to a senate, congress, council, roundtable, a group of people formally nominated to make decisions collectively where everyone's voice is heard and one doesn't take precedence over the other.

2. The treasurer and navigator positions are just extensions of a previous suggestion that was established on the principle of every member fulfilling their own unique role(s), and maximizing the inherent potential, abilities, and resources of every member as they come to realization. So not really a disagreement, just highlighting that this idea has been put on the table before in a different form.

3. No one should be able to vote for themselves, even if nominated. Allowing that privilege will never do any good.

4. It shouldn't be forced to be held at a previous meet spots. All of our previous meet spots have been less than ideal for various reasons. We should find an adequate meeting spot that meets criteria other than "can we all congregate at this location at this time." Somewhere that's not crowded, noisy, allows us to hear each other without interruptions. The future meeting spot should still be a group decision, nonetheless.

5. The multiple positions is a moot point if we end up favoring a council/non-council structure.

If anyone is interested in helping with the actual website, let me know. I'd like the actual website to have a calendar, some links to /hou/ related stores and websites, and maybe some non-incriminating picture galleries and videos. Perhaps some after-action reports that aren't incriminating as well.

The only thing that we HAVE to start doing is meeting up at or near the start of the driving circuit.

This meeting downtown and driving 40/50 miles to start the driving portion is idiotic and wastes time and money for all of us.
>>
>>15462652
Absolutely. That's why we're meeting at Buc-ee's for next month's cruise. It's got a huge parking lot and is right down the street from where the route actually begins.

If we ever run the Livingston Circuit, we'll be starting from the Smiley's gas station at 247 and 980, or if pre-run activities are needed, one of the restaurants in Huntsville.

147 runs should be started at the McDonald's in Montgomery

Dagumi Circuit should be started from somewhere in Katy if there's nowhere suitable closer to Brookshire itself.

>motion sickness from a video

Why do you even drive?
>>
>>15461144
Let me propose a compromise then.

I propose that instead of a strictly top down hierarchy or a strict oligarchy, we instead use a board system. In this system there will be multiple board members each carrying one vote on issues facing the club. Leading discussions and being the face of the board will be the Chairman carrying a vote power of 2.

In this scenario, imagine that there are three elected board members and one chairman. The chairman leads discussions, and the board meeting. As edtablished, the chairmans vote carries the weight of two board members, so he wields great power at the voting table. However, if the board unanimously disagrees they can overturn his decisions 3-2.

I believe this to be the best of both worlds giving us a group of people carrying the torch while providing a clear figurehead that the rest of the group can look to.

Also, on the subject lf self votes, i believe it important that anyone should be able to vote for the candidate of their choosing including themselves. The problem of too many people voting for themselves is already solved by not being able to nominate oneself. A candidate must be nominated by another member.

Also, the reasoning behind holding the vote at a previous meet spot is to avoid people feeling as if they are being forced not to attend by holding the vote at an unfavorable location. Holding it at a previous meet spot (like DNB or something) gives us assurance that everyone can feel as though there was no foul play involved and no malicious intent was had.

One thing extremely important thing i forgot in my previous post is term length:
I propose that a term for all positions should be six months at which time another election will be held (prior to the monthly drive meet).
>>
>>15462425
>What does /hou/ listen to while driving?

>>
>>15463021

>>
>>15462598
I'm not a web dev, but I am a sysadmin and I'm willing to help how ever you find my skills useful. I've even got a DL360 kicking around if anyone wants to pony up the $20/month in electricity the thing pulls and keep it at their place.
>>
>>15463126
I literally just explained this. You can not nominate yourself. Therefore you can not vote for yourself unless someone else nominates you as a candidate for the position.

The purpose of a candidate voting for themselves is to give the candidate the option to vote for the person of their choosing like anyone else. Everyone should have a vote.

No need to pay for a place when public libraries have meeting rooms that can be signed up for. My various public library branches all have public meeting spaces. What the library doesn't want is commercial activity so no sales meetings for some pyramid scheme motor oil company allowed.

Since the library has projection screens you can even show stuff on it. Our libraries provide the digital projection unit too. Your /hou/ core membership can also get together at these meeting places to plan out the next proposals before posting them.

The point of the nest mini-meet is to flush out details and see if we can arrange actual scouts for the routes.

The mini-meet can be wherever, but the next "Touring Event" will meet at a large gas station or restaurant adjacent to the starting point.

We need to choose the route at the next meet; not through some straw poll that gets voted on by who knows who, and decide the location that day. From there, scouting assignments are handed out and we will have two additional hours of time for driving. If we meet at the starting location, then there's no waiting around for an hour, driving to a location, waiting for everyone to arrive at THAT location, and heading out like idiots without a plan.

Someone will have to pick up Butthurticus before the meet though.

I see my pain management on the 20th, gonna look at options for long-lasting pain meds and try to wean me off the oxy/fentanyl.

Might******** be able to drive by the time the main meet rolls around, but if I want to attend the mini meet either my dad will have to drop me off or someone will have to pick me up. It depends on his schedule since he's essentially my caretaker and has to do all the disgusting medical shit.

Oh god yes

I kept visiting the F&S in Asheville before I moved here, and I loved it. They're like an upscale Cabela's that sells $2000 shotguns and precision rifles to rich fudds. They also carry higher-end outdoors clothes.

I'd like to build off of dracula's idea that members present at the minimeet are going to be responsible for the decision making because they will act as representatives for the active body of the group

And I'm all for GS's idea for the conference room so we can lulz behind closed doors and won't even have to worry about telling someone to fuck off, and for a nominal amount of money per hour
>>
>>15465378
Yeah, plus i didn't see him asking for money to rent the room either so it might be breddy gud
>>
>>15465378
Active members have always shown up at mini meets unless they were quite busy, but if not there is conversation taking place on Zello usually. The course itself may discourage people to not show up due to various reasons, such as the time of the day (which is yet to be decided), the length of the course (which is yet to be decided) but more importantly the activities that will take place which is yet to be decided however there are a few good suggestions in this thread. A lot of talk has been going on, but the planners need to figure out which is the best route to take.
>>
>>15465446
so basically now there is no reason to bitch because everybody can be involved in this decision making? what a fucking concept, next you'll tell me we can just hold a zello conference and make things even easier.

Because there are plenty of restaurants we can go to that have private meeting rooms.

Not that we need a private room anyway, since we're just going to spend the time talking about maps, cars, and how The Holocaustâ„¢ was mathematically impossible.
>>
>>15465519
>Not that we need a private room anyway

If we want to stop talking over each other and all the noise that happens to be going on so we can't hear what the other half is saying, I'd say a more private area would be greatly preferred.

>>
>>15465519
yeah, there are restaurants with private rooms, so far the only venues for food we've had come up are whataburger, dnb, happy tea, and now chuck e cheese. I don't think any crew member wants to pay for that fancy restaurant sit down private room nonsense when a crew member can simply rent a low cost room for us to congregate in. This is not a pay to play organization. Lets just get a nice designated room, we don't have to waste time getting seated and served, and we'll be free to talk about the """"""""""holocaust"""""""""" ad nauseum.
>>
>>15465532
Hermann Park could work. Don't know where we would sit, though.

What about the sushi bar under the parking garage at the mini meet? Turbo Snail knows the place.

The plan is to do some things at Galveston as well, but overall "boring driving in straight lines" is the idea.

Don't pay attention to the time Google gives. It gives a really generous window for the ferry and assumes that we'll be at the speed limit the whole time, which isn't even remotely likely.

It was breddy cul. Same place here.

Also, I just saw 8 cops in a 15-mile stretch of freeway where I-8 meets I-10. Almost got got.
>>
>>15467183
And we're not doing it this time either.

The Galveston cruise was proposed, discussed, and agreed to in person at the end of the last meet. We're doing it and it's not up for discussion.

The exact details of the cruise are still to be decided, but the cruise itself is set in stone.

Don't like it? Don't go. It's that simple.
>>
>>15467251

Why would we do something the majority of the group doesn't want to do?
>>
>>15467251
Yes yes and that's fine by me. No problem. I think in the future the routes should not be determined just because you get to whataburger 15 minutes before everyone else. It's silly. But I will drop the subject now
>>
>>15467307
Because you're not the majority. You're just two self centered whiners who think that your definition of fun is the only one that matters.

Guess what. It isn't. We knew from the beginning that some people wouldn't like the cruise, but we don't care.

Why, you may ask? Because we've done four and a half meets so far. One was wangan. Three and a half were touge. Unfortunately, that means that some of our members who are unable to touge or even wangan, either because of vehicular or medical reasons, have been left out.

We're doing a nice, laid back cruise along the coast for them. Don't like it? Too bad. The only butthurt we're taking into consideration this time is physical.
>>
The routes aren't determined by who gets to Whataburger first; that metric was introduced because it showed who was and wasn't able to follow a plan and adapt to sudden changes while adhering to the plan.

If routes are planned by those who are actually capable of executing the drives, then everything will go smoother.
>>
>>15467347

New rule.

If you lead, you must know the route or have scouted it beforehand.

Its the only way this can be fixed. I just want smooth cruises
>>
>>15467251
Theres also a lot more people here than there were over where this "galveston" discussion was. Funny how the only people deciding the cruise were also all coming off of a touge run.

Your word is not god. If we cruise, its for butthurticus, homeboy, not for any other reason. Certainly not because anyone wants to listen to a curmudgeon such as yourself.
>>
From this discussion, it is apparent that we should have a cruise meet up ever few months for the cruisers. I support this.
>>
>>15467441

I can agree to that
>>
>>15467429
Seconded.
>>
>>15467496
If we can third this motion then we can put it into effect. Plus it opens up the option for a detachment of touge enthusiasts in /hou/ to have reasons to drive and collaborate/pick up some good route intel like construction zone, a 4 inch deep pothole, shit like that
>>
>>15467441
My word may not be god, but the collective decision of those who actually attend meets is.

If you can't be bothered to show up, you don't get a say.
>>
>>15467429
For Togues, yes, but it's not 100% necessary for a cruise; especially a day cruise.

Almost anyone could lead the Galveston cruise, for example, as long as they can follow a GPS from one stop to another.
>>
Can we postpone the aug 6 chucky cheese meet to 6pm so myself and more people can make it?
>>
>>15467516
There we have it. Parliamentary procedure. Yes to smooth cruises/rides/runs. We dont need a full hotshoe sanic in front of a cruise line.
>>
>>15467549
Im going to post a strawpoll concerning the date and time of the mini-meet when I get home.
>>
>>15467549

It's not an official policy, as it varies from store to store, but they frown on single adults there and are very likely to kick people out.

Someone should call the one in question and see.

>>
>>15467183
What is your definition of a big meet? It was the very first major meet.
>>
>>15467509
This is why having multiple teams has been suggested in the past. We're all Night Wave, but we can assemble subteams for different areas of focus. Touge runners, wangan chasers, and cruise chillers.
>>
>>15468092
If we form multiple teams, we won't all be Night Wave.

/hou/ is the unified group.
>>
>>15468092
Probably what'll happen in the future, but do we even have enough people to split into smaller groups? I agree, planning a speed course isn't going to work too well for cruisers and anyone who wants to go fast probably isn't going to care too much about a cruise, but how big of meet do you think we'll have if we have just one of those categories show up?

Agreed in person? Don't fucking lie. That never happened. Not once Galveston was mentioned in the recent meet. There is one whole month till the next meet, so there is still time to do actually get behind a new plan. Also, as for the majority, there is a large number of people who seem to disagree for that specific Galveston plan, why? Because it's too long and boring. We don't have to go all touge but instead we can have a nice cruise, it doesn't have to be a boring cruise. You're missing whole entire point of a monthly meet, it's to bring everyone together and attract more people, with a plan like this only a few people will get behind it. Also I rather have something like this >>15467183 right now than some cruise that will take hours of driving on a straight line.

Let's do a damn strawpoll because apparently you seem to speaking for everyone now https://www.strawpoll.me/10786873
>>
>>15468164
Believe it or not. It was decided, and it's what we're doing. Go run Brookshire on your own if you don't want to go.

Or go fuck yourself. It's up to you.
>>
>>15468183
Why the fuck are you lying? It wasn't fucking decided, a "maybe Galveston is a good idea, we'll look into it" is not a fucking decision.
>>
>>15468195
It was decided in the Valero parking lot. Selectively remembering things now that you don't like the idea won't change that.
>>
>>15468183
Galveston wasn't mentioned in person.
>>
Whatever happened to meeting up at the Buc-ees?
>>
>>15468223
That's the beginning of the Galveston cruise.

The mini-meet is Baybrook.

There's always the option of piggybacking pre-existing events as part of a side activity or meeting location.

Theres really no replies in support of your posts like ever so as a crew i think it best for the overall health of the group that we just ignore your posts
>>
>>15468217
>Valero parking lot
fuck off. That never happened, everyone was talking shit about their cars or how the holocaust never happened. Just because you said it doesn't it make it a decision.

A new plan will now be in placed that will be set by /hou/, voted by the majority and not just one person like it should be. You clearly have no goals to see /hou/ grow, you just tell everyone to fuck off if they don't like your plan. I'm done with this conversation now.
>>
>>15468231
We'll probably be rolling into Kemah at about the same time as their meet begins on the 20th. We could potentially crash their party instead of going to the Boardwalk.
>>
>>15468246
We're not doing majority votes. We're doing votes of people who show up to meets, and we discussed and agreed to Galveston in the parking lot. If you don't remember that conversation, that's your problem. We're doing Galveston and it's no longer up for debate.

Getting butthurt after the fact like a third wave feminist after the beer goggles wear off won't change anything, because as I said before the only butthurt we're taking into consideration is the physical variety.
>>
>>15464251
>>15464368
For what it's worth, I've never been to DNB either and would much rather do that than CNC.

Last time I went to CNC, I think I was 12 and for some reason my subconscious won't let me remember what happened that day.
>>
>>15468265
Either one is fine to be frank. CEC would be funnier, but D&B would probably be more fun and it's open later anyway.

I think we should plan an hour or two at a venue before or after runs. Bonus points for underage-friendly food before runs, and oldfag-friendly alcoholic drinks after runs.

I want to come and hang out with you guys, but I'm not big on driving straight lines for >4 hours, especially for the fact that it's going to take me well over an hour to get there, and well over an hour to get back home.

I'm with this guy, it's absolutely retarded to drive more than 4 hours on a straight line, I'm not even leaving the big city technically.

A NEW PLAN IS ON IT'S WAY.
>>
Ok; if we're going to keep using these strawpoll things to vote, then let's vote item by item. The first should simply be "Meet Location:" and we select between D&B, CEC, and ME.
>>
>>15468296
Well, the Galveston cruise is nominally scheduled to meet up at Buc-ee's at 10am and depart at 11am, although the exact details will be hammered out at the mini-meet.

As far as after goes, we've basically got two options there. We can finish at the Kemah boardwalk and goof off there for a while, and I think there's at least one bar on the site, or we can roll into the Home Depot parking lot and crash the Houston Streets meet which should be starting at roughly the same time we arrive.
>>
>>15468262
>show up at meets
the mini meet hasn't even happened yet and some people couldn't make it to this meet (like me), so you just want them to be cutoff from any decision making? What an asshole.

It's already been explained SEVERAL TIMES that we're not changing from the Galveston plan, and the reasons therefore have also been explained.

If you want to run Dagumi, go the fuck ahead, but the official meet is Galveston.

The exact details of the time, route, and activities are still to be determined, but the cruise itself is set in stone.

But hey, if you want to tell Butthurticus that he doesn't matter and can go fuck himself at the mini-meet, be my guest. I'm sure he'd love to test the new AR he just built.
