Unlike most people who will reply to this thread, I have driven a G35, auto sadly.
It is a fun car, it is quick, handles well, rides smoothly, and feels well built and confident.
It definitely feels like a rebadged Z car with an emphasis and comfort over hard-edged sportiness.

I would own a 6 speed one in a heartbeat if I was in the market for a sub 10k sport coupe

stupidly long gearing

You've never driven one, have you?

They stop fine w/ good visibility.

And you're not going to die, not if the fan clutch doesn't fail...

Who gives a fuck what is approved by whom? It's your money, get what you want.

The E39 is a fun car, in V8 trim. The cooling system and timing chain guides are a weak point. If you want something you can add parts to later, and BMW, look at an E46.

If you want outright comfort, the average price of a '98 750il is ~6K. But expect to have issues with vacuum leaks. On the other hand, you get 'dat V12.

I have no experience with the G35, so I won't give an answer.

May I add that when something inevitably goes wrong with the V12, expect to pay a garage close to what you paid for the whole car to fix it.

Fancy = fuckexpensive

While I do like the G35 design-wise, the VQ35 engine is shit. Early ones burn oil and clean, adult owned, late g35s are too expensive for you. Everyone else will know you were too poor for the G37.

I just bought one.

The rear seats are surprisingly comfortable, even for a full sized adult.

It feels quick and sporty and the traction control will prevent you from wrapping around a tree.

One of the best cats you can buy for the money.

The next best thing would be a 335i but good luck finding one for the money

Naw, the M73 is easy.

But the 740 is also an option. LCI 740 still has the same M62 in the 540's. Though the M62 is arguably less reliable than the M73.
