I'm riding my klr650 and suv in front slams on his brakes for a yellow light. My rear brake locks up, it skids sideways a bit, I let off the rear brake when it straightens out, I veer left past the suv and the front brake has an air bubble or something so, I hit a curb at low speed and drop the bike on it's left side. Babbys first time dropping a bike. The overly concerned suv driver quizzed me repeatedly and kept wanting to call the cops or a tow truck so I left asap, I did'nt notice my tool kit came off.

Anyways, the choke switch broke off while turning it some abnormal way. it stalled repeatedly, I tightened the choke cable and after several attempta to start it kinda works but now it runs like shit. For a while I could start it but it would stall the moment I cracked open the throttle.

Also, the tank was nearly empty.

The idle speed changes randomly, it seems to skip a cycle every so often, fuel kept dripping out of some tube at bottom. Also the throttle kinda hesitates at certain rpms. Its slightly less powerful too I think.

I'm not real sauvy on chokes or carbs. What did tightening the cable even do did it lean out the mix or make it richer? Exhaust never changed color.

The choke reroutes air through an alternate path during start-up for a richer(Leaner?) mixture to help the engine heat up, vacuum to build and airflow to also build in the carb.

If you can get the engine to a steady idle with the choke how you have it, then you're fine till you replace the switch/lever

On all the carbs i've seen, there's a rail on the top that the cable connects to that the choke valves and pulls them out.

After reading more, your problem is your carbs are absolutely dumping fuel into your carbs. That could be due to a stuck choke cable into the on position, or it could be a float needle problem.

A very easy fix is to run your bike with the petcock/vuel valve in the off position to starve the float bowls, then let them refill. Alternately you could drain the float bowls of fuel with the drain screw at the bottom of the bowl, but running it dry is so much easier.

Is it worth upgrading from an SV650 to an R6? The SV650 is my first bike, and I've had it for a little over a year. I'm just worried that an R6 won't be much of an upgrade and I'll just have spent money on nothing.
