What happens if you go downhill in an auto?

Doesn't the computer know you aren't applying any throttle and not change up gears so you get engine braking? Or does it just keep changing up as you speed up.

Or is it the fluid interface and no mechanical link meaning torque isn't transferred from the roadwheels to the engine to get engine braking or something?
