If only one could stay in the shire as a hobbit and do hobbit things like drink, eat, smoke, and pester Gandalf about fireworks.

Rode more the CBR innamountains (again) today and I'm slowly improving. I'm learning to live with the maniacal turn in tendencies of that 120/60 in the front but... it feels odd. I pushed it a bit on a roundabout and it doesn't seem to lose traction like I'm used to, instead of sliding the front starts jumping (?). I'm not sure if that's the tire or the way the suspension/bike is set up. I'm also not sure if I expected a sportsbike to be dramatically faster and it isn't because I was already doing pretty hektik things. Further riding is required.

>>15358911
>>15358944
If unsure, go slow. Whatever you do, do not grab the front brake mid corner (that never ends well). When I stumble upon stuff on a corner (like sand or water or a goat) I let go of the throttle and try to either close or open the turn depending on what I'm trying to dodge. If in doubt, lean more. The outcome of lowsiding is almost always less worse than the outcome of going straight into something

you guys ever had an issue as follows:

When holding clutch in, in first gear, I rev the bike and it pulls fowards slightly. If I give it a good rev like this the bike will start moving forwards.
I've adjusted the clutch cable which didn't help.
It's a 2013 gsxr 750.
Any ideas?

Adjust the cable correctly. Both at the bar AND the clutch. If that doesn't work then your cable is probably stretched.
>>
>>15358982
>Whatever you do, do not grab the front brake mid corner

Right, thats pretty much the first thing I was taught.
If the front wheel is doing anything at all, hands off the front brake.

Still, how much lean can I have before the bike will bounce out from under me from a bump?

>how much lean can I have before the bike will bounce out from under me from a bump?

There was this one time on a mountain road where I was slowing down approaching this corner at maybe 20km/h and there was this huge (unintentional) bump followed by depression on the road. I wasn't leaned over at all, but I lost the front for a fraction of a second and it was very spoopy.

So to answer your question, you can be perfectly straight and still get shrekt if you are riding too fast for the road you're in.

As for midcorner bumps, it depends too much on the bump and on the corner. Webm related, a bump in a corner. However, do note that bumps on corners are not common at all, unless you're riding some very bad roads, in which case you should be going slow anyway

tldr take it easy and chill m8 you'll be fine.

What do when qt3.14s want a ride, but you don't have extra gear?
>>
>>15359124
I don't know how much force. An amount of force greater than zero but not enough to force it up. You preload it. Hard to explain. You'll know when the bike sucks the shifter up that you did the right amount. It a light but forceful pressure.

But yeah, you just let off the gas not fully close it. Regular shifting just pull the clutch, upshift, let clutch out. A lot of this stuff you can't explain you just have to do it.

You don't need to snap it completely shut. From my understanding you want to create a situation where no energy is going from the engine into the transmission (acceleration / keeping speed constant) or from the transmission into the engine (engine braking). When you preload the shifter and close the throttle, the bike will go into gear at just that point and that's it.
I might be completely wrong though.

/dbt/, have you ever noticed how conservatively most people seem to ride super sports? Not that your strips are a strict indicator of how well you ride your bike, but I can't help but notice that whenever I pull up to the bike spots in school, generally all of the sport bikes are sporting squared off rears with massive patches of unused real estate on the sides. It seems to always be the sport touring bikes that display evidence of competent riding. How do you explain this phenomenon?
>>
>>15359399
commuting
>>
>>15359401
But sport bikes are terrible commuters. It's the commuting bikes which are being ridden like sport bikes
>>
>>15359399

>>
>>15359399

If people are riding their bikes to school then they obviously commute on their bike, which means the tyres will generally square off as they'll spend most of their time on the inner 10% of the tyre. No excuse for not using the sides though, my rear tyre will square off with time, but I've got maybe ~3mm of chicken strips on the sides at best.
>>
>>15359405
>>15359408
Dunno if it's because i got proper compund tyres, but i have zero problems eliminating strips while commuting

You're just making shit up to ignite a stupid ass dicussion on chicken strips aren't you.

I bet you don't even ride on the track.

fag.
>>
>>15359415

Totally depends on your commute, I only ride my bike for leisure so I use my tyres more, but if you're just riding amongst regular traffic regularly, I can understand how you wouldn't have much opportunity to use the edge of your tyres whilst commuting. Also depends on the size of your tyres.

That being said, if they ride their bike outside of commuting, there isn't much of an excuse for not using the edge.

waddup fuckers

going to look at a 95 gsx750r(w) tomorrow and might be riding it back to town (about an hour and a half in bike time), but it doesn't have a seat, and they're almost impossible to track down locally.

My bike is my daily (currently on an 85 zx600a) and I'm selling it later today to open up the budget options a little. I'm pretty set on this if everything checks out, so if I can't track down an actual seat, what do you guys think could suffice for a ride of that length.

For what it's worth, it's almost entirely going to be interstate (I-20, if anyone is curious. Out of Augusta, GA if anyone rides around here. Lots of pretty roads out into central Georgia or up into SC)

My original idea was strapping pillows to the frame, but I've yet to see what it looks like under the seat, but if it's like the Kawis I'm used to, there should be a couple bars of frame I can strap a couple pillows to, right?

What would you guys do?
>>
>>15359435

I guess pillows could work, maybe find something stiff to support the pillows first. I wouldn't push the limits though, it'll do for transporting though I guess.

Careful with that edge, friend. The track has been a bit beyond my reach for a while now logistically and economically, having shit for money and no car. I'm trying to "ignite" a conversation about why people choose to ride sport bikes as commuters instead of more effective machines.

Also,

Starting to feel like I made a mistake by buying a 250

I bought a bike to feel better about myself but I'm weak and I let people's opinions get the best of me. My 2 competitive friends are buying 600s from a dealer as their first and they're giving me shit for buying a 250 cash.

Every dickhead calls it a scooter instead of a motorcycle.

if they have any background in motorbikes, they'll be fine. But if it's their first motorized two wheel, there's about a solid 40% chance they will legitimately kill themselves, depending on how challenging the roads around you guys are.

If there's a lot of twisties, and especially dilapidated roads, or just combine the fucking two, either way, they make QUICK work of squids like that

Not to mention, you can ride as hard as possible on that 250 as much as you fucking can, get your license (assuming american and assuming don't already have it), and when you sell the 250 for what you probably got it for, you will already have more technical skill than they will by that point for a number of logically obvious reasons.

You are weak, but that's okay. Shit happens, just understand if you aren't going to jump into the risk that is daily life, you're going to need to be able to handle simpleton shit like that, because most respectable bike owners won't grill you for starting on a 250 if you have zero experience. Safety is first about 70% of the time, which includes gear selection and just understanding that gear is for if you go down, not for the ride, which squids will gladly fuck your shit about to.

But you have to stick by your shit, dude. Get your shit together and man the fuck up. It's a 250, so beast that shit.

Not to mention find some mods to do. 250s are so much easier to work on for a number of reason, and they're technical skills that can be carried up into bigger bikes, saving you THOUSANDS on simple labor.

Make the most of that shit

I loved mine for about a year, got a 600 for 6 months, and am selling it tonight for a gixxer 750. loved my 250, still wish I had it

Proper cornering technique leaves you time and space cushioning to react.

Bumps will mostly be seen if they matter, and you can surmount considerable obstacles if you scan and anticipate them. BTW dogs are obstacles and do NOT crash trying to avoid them. One dogger suicided in front of my FXR but I'd straightened the front tire so he wouldn't deflect it. He's dead, I'm not.

I'd buy it to flip for 500. Grab that bitch and enjoy.

Always check titles against frame VIN. Always have seller sign the CORRECT title block. I fill in the rest for them. I've bought and sold many baiku and title fuckups are common but I don't make them. I always get a printed copy of all my titles because the DMV can and does lose track. I've had a title reentered into DMV by showing my hard copy.

At the pet shop/aquarium
>>
>>15360291
5/16" tubing fits most nipples. 1/4" does some but I've had to heat the end to force it over. Tubing prevents pissing fluid over your brake pads and rotors and lets you jizz the fluid into a CLEAN container in case you have to pour some back to finish bleeding. (If fluid isn't clean and clear do not reuse. Brake fluid is cheaper than brake parts.)

BTW some brake nipple threads leak air when not fully tightened and can make bleeding a bitch. You can dab some anti-seize (every mechanic should have some handy) on the threads which will not only seal them during bleeding but prevent the nipple from corroding in place.
>>
>>15360299

I learned on the fly riding my first bike home. It's risky but you can reduce the risk.

Practice for about a half hour on local street where ya buy the bike if there's room. Become familiar with brakes and do some hard practice stops.

Leave ample following distance.

Keep your head and eyes up.

Look where you want the bike to go.

If you have to miss an exist or a turn due to traffic, take your time then reroute at leisure.

Relax and THINK.

Don't hug the curb which is a common noob error that cuts half your manoeuvring room.

If practical find a riding bro to go with and ride it back, but you probably will do OK if you are calm and learned to ride properly.
