First for the crippling realisation of that fact.

At least there's the C1 loop for Ass Corsa and rFactor, right?

why the fuck WingMan Formula Force GP is in the spread sheet? it's ancient as fuck, has no shifter, next to no rotation, 4 buttons total.

at least put Momo Racing Force instead of is as entry choice for poorfags, it's a bit less terrible.

i'm looking for interesting open-wheel cars for assetto corsa, something unique/characteristic - like lotus 49 with it's enormous engine and no aero or 98t with its stupidly huge turbo.

Any recommendations?

how are those traffic jams treating you?
>>
>>15352460
The way you go fast/improve your lap times is by developing a rhythm while driving. For the most part you can achieve this by simple just lapping. While lapping make it your goal to drop time or get close to your best lap time each lap. I myself find that coming up with ideas while driving on how to get faster is a great way to do this. Apply these different ideas while lapping, such as using a different gear one corner, different approach to the corner, etc. Checking out faster people's on boards will help you brush up on your own line if stuck. After developing your line you'll find that you are much more consistent and have found the rhythm. And also you'll find yourself being much quicker out of the gate when you find yourself driving on a new track.

I tend to be a more interactive learner myself, so for me this has been the most effective way to become faster. I've see that doing stuff such as >>15352489 pretty much does not work as well for anyone past that one race weekend if they are lucky.
>>
>>15352460
to clarify what others have said about no braking
if you have good lines you don't need to slow down as much or shift as much weight backing off the throttle and lock is enough
(back off steering lock to avoid too much lift off over steer)

when you do brake only do so for corners you really know need it, most courses only have three or so corners like this
also remember that you do not have to come to a stop, nor do you have to brake early as some corners have a later apex than others

and here are some quotes from famious racing drivers
>if everything seems under control you're just not going fast enough
>when it doubt flat out

>watch this:
>afterwards, practice with simliar cars to those in the video (rF2 and iRacing have modern Skip Barbers, Reiza games have the Formula Vee)
Congrats, you're fast now.

If you aren't though, keep practicing until you are.
>>
>>15352921
Thank god i leave the office past 8 pm, so it's not that bad.
But, if you take the bus, it uses the bus-only lane, and don't suffer much from all the traffic jams, specially around Ibirapuera.
If you DO go to that part of town, I feel sorry for your poor soul.
>>
>>15353009
This is really a double-edged sword. While it'll help when hot lapping by yourself, getting into a rhythm is something you should only be doing if there's no traffic around. But the biggest issue is when people just hotlap like that, they only really learn that line. So when either overtaking or defending they're mostly helpless. Trying to understand the basics ideas and learning to apply them will help the most. Do as many pick-up races as possible to learn how to deal with human drivers.

Someone who attempted to break open Shutokou Battle online here with some well informed m8s

Basically it's impossible as there's no server software ever released, the game was pretty much in an early beta by the time it died anyway, so unless we've got some uber clever blokes here able to recreate anything to access it you'll have todo with emulators i'm afraid.

However you can still download the client from various sources, just look it up as it's been ages since I touched on the whole affair, think there's a couple of different versions that all function pretty much the same. I remember being able to get to the menu screen somehow, but otherwise I forgot. Hope some /ovg/ wizards could rise to the challenge here

pic related folder of my installed version, data formats is some old .mmdl format and the assets are p much worthless now with much better alternatives for both C1 line and cars from Wangan Midnight PS3 (which I also oversaw happening)

Import Tuner Challenge I think worked on some ad hoc basis where you were the host between a couple of peeps and nothing was connected to, had the game but noone to play it with to test out this theory. Assume it's dead judging it's release date.

in terms of a server being connected to.

Remembered how I got to the login screen by opening SBClient.exe- pic related is the image you land on. Would probably have to fiddle with the exe in memory to get around server stuff and then possibly get to a main menu.

There is no "wax on, wax off" in drifting, you learn by doing it. Start with the E30 and after a while use the japanese mod cars(aristo, chaser etc).

One thing I found is that people are scared to go on the throttle, so they tend to snap back.
Don't use assists, because they will become a crutch and it will be even more difficult without them.

Hey guys, just posting this in case this is helpful to someone.

Driving a forklift (or other cargo movers) for work can be pretty enjoyable if you like sim racing and/or driving in general. You're always trying to go faster and link all your movements together seamlessly, and when going longer from A to B you can try to perfect a "racing line". If you're lucky you get to drive on gravel or a dusty concrete floor, sliding and drifting around every turn. Also, you can spend most of the day by yourself just listening to podcasts/music/whatever the fuck you want on your MP3 or radio
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVLs9TAgeCs

You can also "graduate" to some pretty serious machines, earning pretty good money if you wanna make a career out of it

It's a very feature-rich demo. There's enough content to make it worth running through the short campaign and unlocking vehicles, the tuning and painting system is fully-functional, but you can't upgrade cars or use the vinyl editor.

It runs okay and, depending on your settings, can look like Forza 2 or even prettier than FM6.

night races are hype as fuck, and the rain effects and physics are incredible. At Brands Hatch, puddles appear in the apexes of the first hairpin and a stream of water is flowing down the hill immediately after it, as you run through it or other puddles on the track, the car hydroplanes quite realistically.

What's you're favorite type of car to drive? I'd make a poll, but there's too many options.

I like 80's 90's touring cars the best. The modern GT/Touring cars feel more like really heavy gokarts. Very little weight shifting.

THIS SATURDAY

2200 UTC

Barber Motorsports Park (track is on the doc)

40 Laps

Primary (Black) tires are slower but last way longer (haven't yet tested how long)

Alternate (Red) tires are faster but only last about 15 laps

No FCYs for this event, local yellows and advisory blue flags only

No rain for this event

Event will probably be a standing start, though that may change if there is found to be a stalling issue in testing.

I have a feeling that with a little care, you can get a single tank to last an entire race, but I haven't tested fuel myself.

My strategy is going to be to start on blacks, run about 26-28 laps (which you can definitely do on a single tank), then pit for reds and take on enough fuel to make it to the end.

The 1937 F1 mod for rFactor is absolutely based. The cars are slow and have no grip, but nice smooth torque letting you slide them everywhere. They also require some different tuning techniques.

'60s and '70s open wheelers are really nice to drive because they have very simple, go-kart-like driving dynamics coupled with high power, no downforce and wide powerbands. They're harder to drive than a newer slick-shod race car, but have more in common with modern and road cars.
>>
>>15358675

Go on the ovg wiki page for rfactor and find the download for the "ultralite" version

I only really play Forza and Dirt Rally so I don't have a huge frame of reference though.

Forgot to add, T10 needs to get off their asses and bring in more modern cars like pic related.
Half the game's GT cars are 5 years old at this point. The only new one is the Ford GT, which can and will mercilessly rape older cars.

Fuel simulation is terrible as well. I can't speak for tire simulation because you'll always run out of fuel before you run out of tire, and you don't have the option to skip swapping tires to make your pit stop take less time.

I really wish sims would have a "pure" hotlapping mode with:
1.Fixed conditions (track temp, wind...)
2.Fixed or very limited car setup options
3.No fuel consumption, no tire deg and fixed tire temps (mainly so you don't have to restart literally every other lap)

>Inb4 hurr durr git gud
I know you can beat 8/10 people with default setup, and 9/10 with basic tweaks. But to get that WR (on a popular car-track combo) there's a fucking wall of setup work you have to climb. I've done it, but it's not really fun or even "racing". 15 laps of trial and error staring at telemetry to see which air temperature gives you the best tradeoff between more power from colder air and tire heat retention.
>>
>>15359018
"hardly any" is more adequate
not only each country has only two piss-short stages, they're also very monotonous all over

the game doesn't need more environments as much as more detail and variety in each environment

No retard. This is already how it works in simulators when hotlapping. Once you're on track, the temp/wind wont change noticeably and and the changes in tire deg and fuel are insignificant for the first 3 laps or so, and there's cars in all the simulators with "very limited" setup options.
I only want to change what happens OFF track so that it's easier and less tedious for pure driving skill to rise to the top.

>>15359103
I know, 100 man F1 teams does literally thousands of laps of pure testing each year and still fuck up setups sometimes. But that's the point, this is virtual racing. We have the opportunity to fix parameters so that those who want to compete purely on driving skill can.

I dont think it's a good idea to start with the E30 drift. It's got so much power that you really only need to spin the tires to initiate. The AE86 drift tune has half as much power and it takes greater technique to make it go sideways.

That's the point of using the e30. You use that to get the basics down then you try harder cars. If I'd started trying to learn with lower powered cars I'd of been raging most of the time

with like "normal" cars.

looking through the Assetto corsa i could only find like 4 cars that really peaked me interest.

or should i by the gt copy for the ps3.
or buy an xbox360 just for forza?

Also side question is offline mode available since on shitty mobile internet with a 10 Gb data cap/month.

>>
>>15363494
Because it's cheap.
Assuming you aren't using force feedback, you have to use springs to center the wheel, which limits it's degrees of rotation.
Also do you mean 90 deg to either side? In which case it's 180 deg wheel.
>>
>>15363497
It has force feedback.
Yes, 90 degrees to right and 90 degrees to left. I thought all wheels are with realistic turning degrees.
>>
>>15363506
Not a chance.

Your cheap entry level ones only do 180, relying on springs as >>15363497 said.

If you want full rotation, you want one which uses motors such as a G25/27/29/T500
>>
>>15363506
>It has force feedback.
I highly doubt it does, if it only has 180 deg.
You are possibly mistaking vibration and forcefeedback.
>>
>>15363508
Are those with full rotation cycles so expensive because their parts and production is difficult or it's just randomly overpriced? I'd plan to buy one, but hell they cost like 300 euros. And my current one is just 180 degrees, it's so useless.

>>15363509
>You are possibly mistaking vibration and forcefeedback.

That highly depends on you. I am playing with a broken cheap 180 deg wheel and I manage to squeeze out quite a bit of fun from racing games.

My wheel stutters a lot because it's broken anon. I could do reasonably smooth driving when I first got it. But if it works well then lower the sensitivity both in settings and in game and you can have some fun.

>but I want realism
By no means am I telling you to stick with the 180 deg wheel, get a good one with 900 deg rotation and forcefeedback. The only reason I haven't done that myself is because I am too poor to allocate any funds to leisure delights.

That looks like Logitech's old Xbox 360 wheel in a PC flavor. It didn't have FFB, but instead would translate xinput FFB calls (for a Xbox 360 controller) into a wheel reaction. This doesn't work for PC racing games unless they are Xbox ports.
