spectacularly expensive rebuilds every ~8000km are normal for an RS125, faggot kids ignore the service intervals then the piston breaks apart and lunches the motor.
when considering it's value you don't count how old it is, how many owners, or total mileage, just how good it looks and how many hours since last the last engine rebuild

You could just do it yourself m8, it's not like it's hard if you have the manual. Only thing I plan to take it in for is valve check and that's because I'm too lazy.

Then again mine is a 700GS so it's devoid of most of the electronics that would drive the cost of repairs up. Only thing it has is ABS, TC and TPM.

Hey guys, I just bought my first bike a few days ago (1981 Kawasaki) and I just got it registered today. They gave me a paper proof of application and said my plates will be here in 4-6 weeks.

How do I display it? Its not necessarily a temporary license. Do I take the old plates off and just ride without plates but keep the paper on me when I ride? Do I ride with the previous owners plates? Any insight would be great. North Dakota BTW.

Here in KY you keep the old owner's plates unless it's transferred from out of state. And when you do get a new plate they just pick it out of a pile at the DMV place. You don't do that there?

If they're mailing you a new plate I would think you just keep the old plate on until you get the new one. That would be the kind of question to ask the clerk when they give you the papers.

I need help deciding on which jacket to pick up. I live in Washington, DC so its humid and hot during the summer but get cool/cold during spring and fall. I don't plan on riding too much in the dead of winter.

I've narrowed it down to the Rev'it Red Hook leather jacket ($470) and the Dainese Air Frazer mesh jacket ($400). Obviously two very different jackets.

I like the Rev'it jacket mostly for its styling. Other pluses for the Rev'it is that it has a thermal body liner and would probably be comfortable in the fall/spring. The con is that it will be significantly hotter in the summer months, but I've heard of people filling camelbaks with ice to combat the heat, and if your dead stopped in traffic you're going to sweat anyways, right?

The Dainese jacket also looks good, but the main reason I would get it is because it's mesh and Dainese is known for quality, not saying Rev'it makes shitty products. The cons about the Dainese is that there is no thermal liner or water resistance to it at all. If it started to rain I would have to pull over and put a rain suit on (which I don't have). Also, when the temperature drops below 60 degrees I would have to start adding layers and I'm not sure if that works well since I've never done it before.

I ride a BMW airhead. What do you guys think? How bad is riding in a leather jacket in 90+ degree heat?

Everything is bad in 90+ heat. In my experience mesh isn't much better than (well) perforated leather. However I think that unperf leather would be absolutely miserable in the summer.

Honestly, if you're moving, not that bad, especially if you have good ventilation. It has the bubble liner which is non removable, but when you're moving, you are perfectly comfortable.

>>
>>15348884
I have a mesh jacket with a removable liner. I haven't worn it with the liner yet, but it breathes really well which is vital for Texas in the summer.

My overpants don't breathe well at all though, and my jeans are always soaked with sweat when I take the overpants off.

Still better than having my ass literally ground to the bone in the event that the skid demon asks me to take a seat over there.

Yeah, I don't have riding pants yet.. after 5 years of riding on the street.

I was thinking of getting one of those armor suit things and wearing a hoodie over it... but then it'll flap like mad against your arms,

I rode with a thin jacket on the other day and it was worse than being hot because of the material flapping on your arms.

Yes, the dash is blue instead of orange.

I rode it for less than a year and bought a DRZ400SM, rode that for less than a year, bought a Husky TE610.. rode that for 3 years, bought a Husaberg FS550e that I rebuilt the motor on, rode that for 600km, sold it and made $400, now I own a WR450.

If you're indecisive like me... go test ride a bunch of bikes first if you can.

What are you looking to get out of the bike? What's your riding skill?
Do you get bored of things easily?

I see you asking about the 351 kit, don't.. waste of time and money, I didn't have it, but you might as well get a different platform instead of spending that kind of money.

Don't do the Baja DS kit, do the Tusk kit, it's awesome, have it on my WR450. It's $190 USD for the entire kit, literally everything you need.

Unless you're getting a KTM 640, or a Husaberg 650, you're going to end up with a really heavy dirtbike that isn't enjoyable if you even remotely resemble a twig like myself.

It totally depends on what you want to do with the bike.

I don't like heavy bikes, I find them hard to ride, and I often find myself riding trails on SuMo wheels because I'm too lazy to swap them.

It's a shit ton easier to pull a stuck 275 lb bike out of the mud, than it is to pull a 325 lb bike out.

Yes that's me.

If you can't be bothered to add that stuff, then you probably don't want to ride that bad.

It's only a couple hours of your time.

The signals and brake light are all LED, I don't know how you would tap into the power on an XR400, I've only briefly ridden one and it was a fun bike. Might want to check out some DS conversions done on XR400s and see if it needs a more powerful stator or not.
>>
>>15349059
Reminder top end power is overrated and people wank over the performance of bikes that actually pull slower in traffic and off of corners because if you drop the clutch at a gorillion rpm it does a good 0-60.

No, he is right. Read up on your ninja history.

For example, the 2005 EX250s were not only 40hp but they were 12 pounds lighter than the newer generation. It's even got 1+ hp over the new ninja 300s. It was pound for pound one of the strongest motors kawasaki ever made

Me and a friend looked at a R6 rj03 and the clutch behaved like in B. All of the bikes we've ridden behaved more similar to A.
The clutch on B is basically not engaged -> fully engaged. The friction zone was so tiny it's impossible to keep it in there. Slow maneuvering in friction zone is not possible.

Is this a yamaha thing, personal preference or is the clutch fucked or adjusted wrong? Or is this normal for some bikes?

You can literally buy a bicycle computer for $20 and install it, it does the same thing.

You can get a keyed ignition on eBay for even less than $20...

Try and find one that turns on 2 circuits at once and 2 off at once though... 1 normally open and 1 normally closed circuit. Then you can make it turn on the ignition and the Tusk lighting kit when you turn the key on.

Sad, so I guess ninja is a good boyracer-y type bike to floor it off lights and do dumb shit, but the r6 is good at cornering? Is the r6 also gonna be as uncomfortable as the daytona? I love the look of hardcore track bikes but I also wanna be able to ride without a slipped disc after 30 miles

the thing is I'm looking to get the motorcycle before the summer's out because that's when I need to get my own transportation.
that's why I'm trying to find a cheap bike that's good to start on

Motorcycle will instantly depreciate whether you finance it or not. Only thing financing gives you is ability to maintain your savings. Which means you either have enough savings to pay off a loan you just got, or...

Hmmmmmmmmmmm, how far is college? You could try grabbing a used 250 or 300 for like 3 grandish and just puts around on it for a year or so

It's been repainted, which I guarantee 99% of people wouldn't do unless the original paint was dinged and scratched. #1.

That's not the seat and tail a GS should have, they usually come with a uniseat and a more boxy rear. It may not even be the GS subframe. #2.

16k miles. I'd be wary. #3

Disgusting highway bars. #4

Be very very careful if you're slightly interested in this, man.
>>
>>15349715
I still don't see your flawed logic, in no way is holding your savings for something else (possibly modifications) a bad idea. You'd only be paying maybe 10% of your monthly income to a payment

if you've been riding anything, you won't whiskey throttle a wheelie by accident. but you can see the horsepower kick in at 6k, so its easy to bounce the shocks and power wheelie it, or clutchup in 1st, 2nd, and even 3rd if you really try and move your bodyweight back. cover the rear brake!
i dont think you'll be impressed by their drag starts until you get good at half clutching when launching, but the acceleration everywhere and top speed should put a smile on your face.

If you have enough savings to only lose 25% for covering buying a commute vehicle, getting a loan would be simply gifting money to the bank.

I'm more concerned about having to park in a public parking lot.
>lay the bike on its side and it gets run over

Also 4 strokes aren't as friendly to laying on the side as 2-strokes since the oil can flow into the cylinder

I think you could expect a 690 to go a lot longer without any major overhauls.

there was a short while where they had an issue with the rocker arms breaking. I haven't heard of that happening with any of the recent years.

Anyway the LC4 platform has been around since the 90s I think. It's been improved over the years too. It's always been their more long-term road-going engine not designed for race bike power delivery or weight savings. It will have much longer service intervals than their dirt bikes.
