If I can find a block that can x-ray with minimal cylinder offsets then absolutely. They had to go through quite a few blocks till they found a casting suitable enough. If I can't find a healthy enough block, it will be a 3.2L stroker.

You will pay $5k to $7k for a rusty driver. This is not a joke.
>>
>>15355372

Just outside Kansas city. Engine is solid, currently serving daily driver duty until I swap it. Transmission gets a bit notchy at times. Make me an offer, I can let go of them pretty cheap but I won't ship them
>>
>>15355436
Well then were at a bit of an impass, since I'm in northern California and I'm NOT gonna drive out there. The most I could offer is like $100 plus shipping.

At that price, keep em for spares yourself. I'll find another L24 out here. Thanks for the offer man.

Hey, I'm the guy from norcal with the 510 from the other thread. I have an l24 that I could hook you up with, I pulled it out of my Z a while ago to do a swap. I'm in Laos for the next 30 days though, so maybe we can work something out then

that.... actually looks pretty damn nice for the price (and the location)

bring a strong magnet and a nylon legging to wrap it in, then test the normal rust spots for bondo or rust using the magnet.

Definitely worth a look my friend.
>>
>>15362049
and that's alright, it's stock. But I prefer more visibility (and an even, mirrored appearance, I.E. both sides look similar)
>>
what radiator upgrades yall run? i have a stock one but im not sure if its leaking or not, i need to check...
>>
>>15363057
I work at a radiator shop building radiators all day for Isuzu, Cummins, Zamboni, Siemens, and loads of others, and I can tell you that a simple aluminum radiator and nice two speed electric fan will work wonders for your S30. Overheating will be a thing of the past.

I'm still running the original brass radiator, but only because it was recored about 5,000 miles ago. It's practically brand new, and I'm cheap.

Also, a leak test: get a spray bottle and fill it with soapy water. Spray it on the suspected areas of the radiator when it's full and the car is running; that might spot you some leaks.
>>
>>15363111
the its off the car, i want to make sure that i have one ready to go when the motor is done, you think pumping compressed air into it with the soap water will work?
>>
>>15363197
absolutely, testing it outside the car is the way to go! We actually test our radiators right after welding them by submerging them in a water table (think metal kiddie pool, basically) and running 7-12 PSI through em and watching for bubbles. You have to find a way to cap them to gain pressure, though. We have silicon expanding plugs we use, and I have no idea how to source one of those.

The best way to cap it at home would probably be some rubber radiator hose hose clamped to the inlet, and then plug the hose with a piece of proper diameter PVC pipe with an end cap glued on. Make sure to hose clamp that PVC pipe into the radiator hose! Drill a hole in the PVC end cap for a quick release air compressor fitting, and attach the hose directly to that. Turn on your compressor to pressurize.

Cap off the outlet of the radiator with the same radiator hose/PVC pipe/ PVC cap, but drill a hole in this one and thread in a PSI gauge (if ya want to, or just leave the cap without a hole), and I'd say you're ready to test.

Heres a genuine question. I dont have my mirror on my passenger side door because it fell off. Now there are just two holes where the mirror used to be. How do I cover them up to look like >>15362049 ? I kind of like the look with no mirror.
>>
>>15373969
i think he welded the holes up, i cant think of another way to do it.
>>
>>15373975
actually, the 240Z came stock with no passenger mirror. It was just the driver side.

Meanwhile, the 280Z came with driver and passenger mirrors. If you want it only on one side, you're gonna have to weld the holes.

Holy fuck, talk about a long range fuel tank: 26 gallons.

The desire for a Tom thumb minibike as a trunk motorcycle for the Z is real. Man the possibilities... even breaking down on the side of the road or running out if gas wouldn't be a problem!
>>
>>15376618
What if the motorcylce breaks down or runs out of gas?
>>
>>15376618
That seems like fun, where can I get my hands on one of those??

your garage, they're all homemade. Popular mechanics had an article on how to make them back in '70.

I piss in the tank, obviously, because the only time I'd ride it is if I was shitfaced drunk. My urine has to be at least 85 octane then.

....or walk. Whatever.
>>
>>15377940
Well that's nifty. Seems like a lot of fun. My only problem is I can't weld so I couldn't build the frame. And a quick Google search shows that no one sells the frames. Anyone have any ideas?
>>
>>15378060
Oops, spoke to soon. Tons of frames on Ebay. Around $200. Might be a fun project to save a little money here and there for.
I just moved into the country with my fiance, so I want a little bike I can ride to go get the mail lol
>>
>>15378073
Better option: use thicker OD tubing, and braze it together. Tools to braze are like $40, tops, and it'll be more than strong enough.
>>
i spent tmore time cleaning the block today, i used simple green, then used my water blaster to clean off the crud.

my fucking telescoping gauges are too large to fit in the bore to figure out if there is elliptical wearing.
i dont wanna buy a bore gauge :( ugh
still need to look at the harness its a fucking mess.

TOMORROW IS THE BIG DAY, THE FOURTH: THE Z SHALL LIIIIIIVE

>>15379837
you might just have to bite the bullet and get a borw gauge, man. Or takr the block to a machine shop and for a six pack, have them measure.

240. 260 is that odd one that everyone refers to as the one in between the 240 and the 280.

Update, with good news and bad news:

Good news: she started! Carbs are out of sync but she started.

Bad news: I'm trying to recover the footage from a corrupt SD card...

The fight continues.

Got more bad news for ya, my l28 swap went sour when my new radiator didn't show up, still waiting on that

260z resto guy here...

So I'm happy to say I finally joined the sub-2,200lb club. I removed the rear bumpers, and stripped the rest of the rear. That shit was heavy!

I had to make-shift paint the terribleness under the bumper but it turned out pretty good imo. Seats are on order and those are both 20lbs lighter than stockers as well. Eventually when I strip the body, I'll have the bumper welded smooth but for now that'll do.
>>
>>15390766

Have yourself a uni-sync?

Also some people may nay-say me, but I use a gunson color tuner to help me baseline the AFR's before heading out and road tuning (buying an AFR gauge is also on my radar)

What carbs are you running?

>>15384548

Which ever is in best condition. The 260z early model (pre-1974 1/2) will have more chassis traits akin to the 240z. It will have bullshit flattop SU carbs (unless they have been swapped out 99.99% of the time) and a lot more emission garbage plus massive overweight bumpers.

Good thing is its emission exempt so you can toss all that garbage off, ditch the heavy bumpers and you'll be left with a slightly stiffer chassis and .2L extra capacity in your motor. You will also have a rear sway bar and the handling will actually be better from improvements in struts and slightly stiffer spring rates. 260z are usually priced lower as everyone tries to find a 240z or 280z, but if you find an early 260 or 240, just go with the one less tainted by rust.

Avoid a late 260z though. All the downfalls of emissions, plus all the added weight from the 280z chassis.

>>15384180
Also nvm, I saw from your pic you are on round tops.

I see much potential for that engine bay...oh yes...KEEP US POSTED.
>>
>>15391826
>Have yourself a uni-sync?
Yep, but I'm looking to get a syncrometer instead. A lot more accurate.

>>15391843
That engine bay is getting a sawzall later this month, as the car is getting cut to pieces and sent to Shnitzer Steel. It's just too rusty to even consider restoring. That's why I've got second chassis that'll be revealed in a month or so...

(And maybe, just maybe I'll save this chassis from the firewall back, so I can mount it on a truck frame and make a shitty rat rod)

so i was measuring out the cylinder wear on the L26 today, apparently there is like little to no oval tapering in the cylinder? I was getting measurements in the 0.004-8 range, the difference across all cylinders to be ~0.001 at MOST. That seems strange because in my leakdown testing I was getting some air coming out of the crank breather.
There was a load of air coming out of the exhaust valves, perhaps its the valve seals?
>>
>>15395063
I'm calling valve seals on that one

>>15393867
oh no trust me yours is worse, but mine is still to the point of no financial viability to fix. You just happen to be cray cray

>>15394092
I'd still one off the production line for ya, but I'd rather not lose my job...
>>
>>15395306
fuck man why did it take it all apart then :( i labeled it all... might as well put standard bore stuff into it.
>>
>>15395984
well you took it apart because you didn't know, and that's always better than not knowing. And plus, you can replace the seals, rings, and bearings since it's apart. Freshin' it up a bit so to speak.

Also, my phone is retarded and it says I'm banned; I think it's because I upgraded my plan to LTE. So don't expect responses during the afternoon, PST.
>>
>>15398161
my shit was like that too, appeal the ban, just write in the request " hey i got a new cellphone, when i attempt to post via LTE it says im banned."

they should sort it out
>>
>>15398211
I'll try that out later, good idea.
